Who Makes the Mineralize Skinfinishes in Blonde and Redhead? It’s MAC, Naturally

January 20th, 2012 by Karen 17 Comments

Based on the both of the Mineralize Skinfinish powders released with the 21-piece MAC, Naturally collection, Blondes AND Redheads have more fun.

MAC Naturally Mineralize SkinfinishesAnd that’s good news for brunettes! Blonde and Redhead ($28 each) are my favorite pieces from the collection, which launched a few weeks back, and I mustn’t be their only fan. Both powders are currently sold out on the MAC website, but you should be able to track them down in stores and on counters (and online at nordstrom.com).

Elder MAC mavens might remember both shades from 2009’s Brunette Blonde Redhead (GREAT love collection!). MAC moppets seeing these striped beauties for the first time are in for a treat.

To say the MAC Mineralize Skinfinishes have a cult following is like saying Tabs likes gravy (a BIG understatement). Many MAC fans, myself included, look forward to these powdered pretties and stalk our local makeup counters on the dates of their release, and it’s not uncommon for the limited edition ones like Blonde and Redhead to sell out early.

So, what makes ’em so special? Darned if I know — but it must be something magic. They’re powders that can be used as highlighters, blushes and also as powders for the entire face, and they’re softer than a tabby’s tum and give a glow like whoa to the skin. 🙂

Blonde (a soft pink to rose gradient) and Redhead (a gold to salmon gradient) also show the MSFs at their best. They deposit intense pigments with nearly blinding shimmer that I think makes them marvelous for, among other things, bold, highlighted cheeks.

Wearing Redhead on my cheeks

MAC Naturally products clockwise from the peach blush on the lower left: Mineralize Blush in Fresh Honey ($22), Mineralize Skinfinish in Blonde ($28), Mineralize Eye Shadow in Into the Sun ($20), Mineralize Eyeshadow in Twilight Falls ($20) and Mineralize Skinfinish in Redhead ($28)

Their shimmer does illuminate one possible caveat, which is that it can exaggerate imperfections like large pores, so whenever I wear an MSF, I apply a primer first to smooth the surface of my cheeks (I’ve been liking Hourglass Mineral Veil lately).

PRICE: $28 each
AVAILABILITY: Available now at MAC stores, counters and also (from Nordy’s) online

I checked out either Redhead or Blonde MSF (don’t remember which one) last week and it felt so smooth in texture. I used to own MAC Soft & Gentle and did not really like it because the texture was so gritty and too glittery as a highlight. I much prefer Dior Amber Diamond because it gave me that gorgeous sheen. Anyways, it seems like MAC has improved the texture of their MSFs lately. <3

Hi Karen, these look beautiful on you! I was scared these would be too shimmery so I went with MAC Subtle Breeze blush instead (I posted pics on my blog) and I’m totally loving it, but these look really glowy and gorgeous on you!

I bought Redhead in 2009 based on your recommendation, and I still have it, and it is still my favorite blush. Thanks Karen!

These are really pretty! Great tip on wearing primer on days you wear something shimmery like these. I can’t get Hourglass here, but I have a sample of Mineral Veil I’m eager to test! Hoping to have my mind blown. 🙂

It looks great on you! I’m yet to try the MSFs, would you recommend it for oily/combination skin?
