If You Like Long-Wearing Blushes, You May Want to Spring for These Amazonian Clay Blushes From Tarte

January 23rd, 2012 by Karen 52 Comments

Wearing Tarte Amazonian Clay Blush in Glisten

Daily revelations, January 23, 2012

  • “Isosceles” and “Camembert” are two very dignified words.
  • The retail pet products world discriminates against cats (at Target, dogs get both sides of an entire aisle for toys and canine accessories, but cats just get one small section of wall!).
  • What does it mean when you’re no longer embarrassed about saying things like this out loud: “The kitty appetizers with the shredded pieces are way classier than the ones with cubed bits.”
  • ZOMG! Tarte’s four shimmery, glittery Amazonian Clay Blushes for spring 2012 are totally great!

I’m still trying to track down whether these four new $25 blushes are limited edition or permanent, but I’m really hoping that Tarte decides to keep ’em around, because I can easily see myself wearing Adored (a cool pink with purplish glitter), Frisky (a red with golden glitter), Buff (a nude peachy brown with silver glitter) and Glisten (a shimmery peachy gold from last year’s QVC-exclusive 8th World Wonder kit) all year round.

Like their older siblings, these four new shades also contain (you guessed it!) Amazonian Clay! — an ingredient that Tarte claims is able to adapt to different skin conditions, both moisturizing dry patches and absorbing grease in oily areas at the same time.

My dry cheeks have yet to feel a sudden surge of moisture when they wear these, but I can say that the blushes haven’t made my alligator skin situation any worse.

Also like last year’s blushes, these pigmented powerhouses have amazing grip strength! They latch onto my cheeks and don’t let go for nothin’, not even after multiple trips to and from my car yesterday in the rain. They stayed put all day long until I removed my makeup around 9 at night, so if you need or want a long-wearing blush, you could do a lot worse than these.

But, you might be wondering, what about the glitter? Well, I think Tarte handles it well. It’s definitely not glitter ala Claire’s/Hot Topic. Tarte appears to be using a semi-matte blush base for Adored, Frisky and Glisten that tones down the party effect, so it’s visible from an arm’s length away, but the glitter flecks are so tiny and subdued that I think they look refined. We’re talking classy glitter here, babe. 🙂

A few notes on the individual shades…

  • Adored — This cool glittery pink looks a little bit like a flashier, glittery NARS Mata Hari.
  • Frisky — If creamy NARS Cactus Flower blush came in a powder, I’d call it Frisky. The most intense of the four new shades, and I bet it’ll pop on skin tones from medium to dark.
  • Glisten — This shimmery peachy gold is the only one that didn’t get glitter. If you already have MAC Sunbasque or NARS Luster, you already have a shade very similar to Glisten.
  • Buff — This nude peachy brown is such a showoff with its flecks of silver glitter! It’s probably my favorite of the bunch and the one that’s the least like anything else in my collection. I also think it’s the subtlest of the group, but that doesn’t hold back it’s fun potential.

All in all, it looks to me like Tarte is kicking off this spring with a bang. 🙂

Glisten is gorgeous! I definitely need it in my life. It’s like someone took MAC Nymphette and pressed it into a blush pan!

And as scary as Frisky looks in its pan, it looks SO flattering on your skin tone! Very fresh and healthy looking.

Good eye, Gina! I am going to wear that combo, ASAP!

Soo, are ya thinking about getting Frisky? If you’re afraid of it going on too dark, you could always do a light wash with a fan brush.

These look gorgeous! I wish I knew about them before I bought my Cargo blush, but maybe I can get Frisky for days when i need any extra punch of color. Have you used any Cargo products? What do you think of them?

      Hi Ambi,

I have. I like their blushes a lot! They also have eye quads that are a lot of fun too. It’s harder for me to get a hold of them ever since Sephora stopped carrying the line, which is why I don’t wear it as much as I used to.

These look so pretty on you Karen! I have 2 of the Tarte blushes (Exposed and Dollface) that I totally love… I wrote on my blog all about how I think Exposed is more universally flattering than NARS Orgasm. Anyone else with me on that tangent? maybe after I use up the ones I have I’ll check into these.

      Hi Anna,

Frisky is slightly more peach, while Orgasm is more pink. Orgasm seems to have a stronger golden shimmer, too.

It’s so hard to find good bunny toys! Nothing for kitties or puppies is really suitable for my bunnybaby. He has some wooden blocks he likes to throw around, and anything cardboard is good for them.

Buff looks like NARS Madly to me, and Frisky reminds me of Super Orgasm though the glitter might be smaller. I’m wanting Glisten in a BAD way! I have a list full of cosmetic-wants that I will never be able to get around to actually owning! 🙁 Oh well, in another life..

      Hi Caitlin,

I have NARS Madly, and they have some differences. Buff has a matte base with glitter, and Madly has a layer of shimmer. Buff is also slightly darker. If you want a comparison swatch let me know.

i have both. on me exposed finishes a deep-ish pink. buff stays true to its nude color. the shimmer doesnt really matter since it blends out and turns to a glow. 🙂

I’m liking Adored a whole lot. And I completely agree with you about discrimination against cats. They have like what? two collar designs and dogs get dozens. As far as food goes, you don’t get much fancier (or expensive) than Fancy Feast, unless you’re my ginger kitty Buttercup who doesn’t like “second day” Fancy Feast. Doesn’t matter if it is warmed up, she knows the difference. =^.^=

I’m all over Glisten (have been for a while haha)! Got to lay my hands on that one! I own Peaceful and Exposed (Blissful is on its way), and they really are super pigmented (though they do fade towards the end of the day for me)!

Yeah, tell me about discrimination against cats! I feel that dogs get WAY MORE toys, but they all look the same to me (whereas cats get something with a bell, mice, crinkly paper… you know the deal)!

Have you tried LORAC blush in desire? It’s one of my all time faves and adored looks like it on here – if you have can you compare the two? Do you feel like they make your cheeks drier?

I’m pretty alligatorish as well, especially in the winter. These are a couple things I love that keep my gator at bay! I use origins Make a Difference Ultra-rich rejuvenating cream for the day-time and Origins Drink Up Intensive overnight mask to quench the night thirst. They are amazing I have tried so many things and these work consistantly. Life changing products
