Ricky Martin and Nicki Minaj Join the MAC Viva Glam Fam

February 2nd, 2012 by Karen 47 Comments

Viva la Vida Glam, Barbz! The new Ricky Martin and Nicki Minaj for MAC Viva Glam collection just danced onto my desk, and I’m in the mood to celebrate.

Both the yellowish pink Viva Glam Nicki Lipstick ($14.50) and the clear Lip Conditioner ($15) just feel so springy and fun! Plus, like all Viva Glam products, 100% of the proceeds of Viva Glam Nicki and Lip Conditioner sales go to the MAC AIDS fund, which helps women, children and men living with HIV/AIDS.

With just one tube at a time, millions have been raised since the program’s start in 1994. Gotta love that. 🙂

Swatches of Viva Glam Nicki on the left and Lip Conditioner in Clear on the right

Wearing MAC Viva Glam Nicki

Wearing Lip Conditioner in Clear atop MAC Viva Glam Nicki, plus more proof that it’s impossible to out-pose a kitty supermodel!

A few quick observations

  • MAC didn’t hold back with the pigment in Viva Glam Nicki, and one layer easily creates full coverage. It also sports MAC’s signature vanilla flavor and scent (yum!).
  • Lip Conditioner feels light, non-sticky and smooth, and like Viva Glam Nicki, it rocks the classic MAC vanilla flavor and scent.
  • I like layering Lip Conditioner atop Viva Glam Nicki. It seems to tone down the brightness and make it a little more wearable.

Find both Viva Glam Nicki and Lip Conditioner at MAC counters, stores and online in North America this month and internationally in March.

Whoa you posted this lightening fast! I JUST saw the press released yesterday!

I don’t think I can pull the lipstick off at all, but I like how it looks on you! The lip conditioner sounds promising however. I’m just going to admit I used to have a huge crush on Ricky Martin more than 10 years ago and I still like him a lot!

You aren’t the only one. There’s a restaurant in my hometown that has this life-size cutout of Ricky in the dining room and I’ve been plotting ways to have it come with live me FOREVER, haha!

Oh yeah, you could easily tone this down even more — just dab it lightly on your lips to create a stain! 🙂

Hahaha it’s good to know I’m not the only one! I’m happy he came out only after I have grown up a bit though. Otherwise it would have broken my heart :p

I’m just not too sure about anything cool-toned, but with your advice I am already venturing out of my comfort zone! Just ordered NARS Mexican Rose last night. Can’t wait to flaunt my hot pink lips around town!

Oh my god, that lipstick is even better than I expected! High five for yellow toned pinks! I might get the lip conditioner too, just because it’s such a great cause to support (and you can never have too many lip balms)!

I can’t wait to pick this one up…At last Update, the total raised was $140M+ for HIV charities, and its all localized, so it really does affect YOUR community. (Here in AZ, if I remember correctly, it goes to SAAF, the Southern Arizona AIDS Fund.) They should have a new total when I go again on Sunday.

Love this color, looks so pretty! Without the blue undercast that Gaga1 had, this shade is totally wearable for most skin tones and perfect for spring/summer!!

(Also personally thrilled this is a satin and not a lustre finish…mmm, pigment. *drool* )

You look great, your highlights have exploded and multiplied, I love it!! Soooo cute!

Thank you so much for this information Brian, I had no idea the donations were made to LOCAL organizations! I love the Viva Glam campaign, and this is just one more reason to put my money where my lips are 😉

I just ordered my VG Nicki Minaj yesterday and after seeing these swatches am in full on EXCITED mode!

Wow, it looks great on you, Karen! I’m so glad it’s yellow -toned. I mean, I love Viva Glam Gaga, but my skin is quite yellow and blue-based pinks can look harsh on me. Although it’s funny, now that I think about it, I prefer blue-based reds. Undertones are still a mystery to me. Anyway, this is a great addition to a great cause. Adding the conditioner was a good idea, too. I’ve never been too interested in it, but I’m inclined to check it out since my purchase would help people.

That is such a fun color! Good to know the lip conditioner isn’t sticky at all but still has the MAC vanilla scent. SO comforting and yummy! I’ve always admired the Viva Glam program for donating 100% of proceeds anytime of the year, when many others only donate a small percentage for a limited time.

Iv been waiting for this since I heard that David Lachapelle was doing the promo photography, and it’s finally almost here!! Though from what I saw oft he promo photo online, I wish he’d pushed the envelope more. I saw an exhibition of his when I was studying in Paris, and he has some amazing work!!

I love MAC’s dedication to their AIDS fund, whenever the other Estee brands do their breast cancer month promotions, it really bothers me how much profit they still make. Like, really Estee, you can only donate 20% of your Breast Cancer Foundation packaged products? And this year Origins repackaged their Make A Difference cream, in a smaller size that was more per ounce than their usual jar, and only donated $5 per jar to the foundation. I love MAC because they actually care a lot about their cause, whereas when other brands, Estee’s children included, do something, it feels bandwagon-ey

      Hi Adrienne,

I think it’s super cool that they do this just because they can, you know? Viva Glam is one of the many reasons why I adore the line. 🙂

VIva Glam, and also their real push to encourage customers to recycle (Back to MAC). The Mac girls at my store also hold little fundraisers with the Macy’s employees for the Mac aids fund, and volunteer in the community through the company. I love it 🙂 I also like that if I buy a Viva Glam lipstick, and my gf says “baaabe, did you buy more makeup?!” I can say “nope, babe, I made a $15 donation to charity and got a free lipstick for it!” LOL

I’m super excited for this lipstick, the color is SO CUTE!

I think it’s awesome that MAC does this and it’d be great if more cosmetic companies followed their example. It’s such a great cause, and that 100% goes to the fund is really outstanding. And it encourages me to try colors I wouldn’t normally try–like Viva Glam Cyndi. I was convinced I just shouldn’t wear red, and then I tried Cyndi. I almost went into a panic attack when I thought I had misplaced it last week! 🙂
