When Basic Just Won’t Do, There’s MAC Pearlglide Intense Eye Liner in Black Line

February 11th, 2012 by Karen 30 Comments

That’s it! I’m drawing a line in the sand!

Oh…did I say sand? I meant, “on my lids and lash lines,” and I’m using MAC Pearlglide Intense Eye Liner in Black Line ($15) to do it. 🙂

OBSESSED!

That’s how I am about Black Line. It’s one of seven Pearlglide Intense Eye Liners in the new MAC Vera collection, and it’s my undisputed runaway favorite of the bunch.

Vera marks an encore performance for the Pearlglide clan. Their look-at-me-shimmer and rich, intense colors have played limited engagements in previous MAC collections before, but, much to my delight and the delight of many MAC fans, rumor has it they’re being added to the permanent line this time around.

Described as a deep black with golden pearl, I think Black Line is much more interesting and lively than that. Sometimes, when I catch myself in the mirror with it on, I see a blackened khaki with greenish golden glimmer and think, “Is that still Black Line on my eyes?”

Last night I wore it out to dinner with the girls in what I thought turned out to be a nice spin on a clean, classic eye. First, I applied a wash of neutral shadow all over my lids with MAC Soba, then a bronze liner along my lower lash and water lines with MAC Powersurge, and then used Black Line to line my upper lash lines.

Pearlglide Intense Eye Liners Industrial, Petrol Blue, Black Swan and Black Line

If you decide to give Black Line a try, please let me know. I think it also looks great with greens, gold and bronze eyeshadows, like MAC Sumptuous Olive, Gorgeous Gold and Woodwinked.

PRICE: $15
AVAILABILITY: Available now on MAC counters, in stores and also online

    I think I need it!
I got Petrol Blue which I like quite a lot! You know what’s funny with this eyeliner? You apply it, wait 1-2 minutes until it’s dry, rub it lightly with your finger, and then it’s like 2 times shinier and sparkly. Isn’t it weird? Did you notice that?

Is it Sunday Afternoon on your cheeks?

      oh wow that’s awesome!

By the way, how sparkly are they when you don’t rub them? Some of the swatches I’ve seen are super glittery but others have looked more subtle.

They are pearly, but I think some shades are more sparkly than others. I only have 2 so I can’t really compare! They might look very glittery on the swatches, but keep in mind that the glitters looks bigger, you won’t see them as big as on the swatches once it’s on your lids.

Random fun fact: I am actually descended from General William Travis, the guy at the Alamo who famously drew the line in the sand!

is this liner very different from Uniform? I am trying to decide between the two. They look pretty similar and I am trying to stay away from buying shades that are too close.

Love the color. Whitney s death is shocking! I knew she was in trouble but its really sad to see her go in the same way other celebrities seem to pass…. like michael and brittany murphy.

my current fave thing to do when im in a rush is a layer of a creamy product (eg NARS mulitple) and a thick-ish layer of liner … these pearglides will totally do the trick!

I bought Black Line last time it was available and love it. Now I think some of its siblings need to come join it. 🙂

Love Black LIne – when they ran out last year – I was determined to find something similar – Check out Buried Treasure by MAC – its close- no but sparkle. I love Black Line the best – have Black Swan & Lord it up also – and from a couple of years ago Black Russian – Like that one too – maybe they will make that perm? Do you have the Chanel Quad Winter Nights? Goes great w/that.

I have Black Line and love it to bits but have been saving it. Good to know it will be permanent now.

But one thing I notice, of all the Pearlglides I have, Black Line is the only one that smudges. The rest don’t.

Vonvon, I noticed that smudging too! I was so excited to see Pearlglifes again, bc I had been hoarding Power Blue and the teal one form last time. Ordered Black Line and Black Swan, and first time I wore Black Line it smudged. 🙁
