Paul & Joe Waterproof Gel Eye Liner: Water Doesn’t Bother This Kitty Cat

February 14th, 2012 by Karen 30 Comments

NOTE TO SELF: Next time Tabs insists on going for an impromptu walk in the rain (believe it or not, this has actually happened), grab Paul & Joe’s Waterproof Gel Eye Liner in Black ($25), because once this quick-drying matte black gel sets on my lash lines, it won’t even flinch in a downpour.

Part of the new eight-piece limited edition Kitten Collection, Gel Eye Liner feels thick, dense and kind of reminds me of a drier, grayer version of MAC Fluidline in Blacktrack.

I don’t think it clings to water lines anywhere near as well, but on rainy, rushed days when all I want are quick cat eyes, Gel Eye Liner delivers. It dries in just about a minute, and after that, I get a good 12 hours out of it without any smudging or fading.

The liner also comes with a flat, tapered retractable brush that performs surprisingly well and draws thick and thin lines with ease. Using it to apply Gel Eye Liner creates lines that look a little bit blurred at the edges, for an effect that’s more soft than precise.

If you’re looking for lines with a crisper edge, you might want to apply this with something like the Sonia Kashuk Bent Eyeliner Brush instead.

Color my cat eyes impressed with Paul & Joe Waterproof Gel Eye Liner. I wish it performed better along the water line, but depending on how you intend to wear it, that might not be an issue at all.

PRICE: $25
AVAILABILITY: Available now at Paul & Joe counters and also online

This eyeliner looks awesome. I love gel liners.

Jazz is thrilled to be back home. The girls are happy to have their brother back, and I’m just glad my little boy was saved. 🙂 He’s doing fine, but his bladder stretched while he was blocked, so he tends to leak urine now. I also have to give him wet food from now on, and the doctor told me about Hills Prescription food, which is supposedly a better kind.

I’m glad that Jazz is doing better. Did the doc ever find out what the cause of the blockage was?

Good to know about Hills wet food. Maybe I’ll get some for Tabs.

She said the pH of the urine is the main cause. There were crystals forming that blocked his urethra. It happens more often to male cats: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Feline_lower_urinary_tract_disease

I put water in his food now, and we have to watch him to make sure he visits the litter box frequently.

I didn’t know that was an issue for male kitties. Thank you for sharing this and letting us cat ladies know. I hope that Jazz is feeling 100% better soon!

I know! The only thing is you have to clean it every time you use it, otherwise it starts getting all crusty and gross.

I get Paul & Joe online. The only other place I’ve seen it in person is the DFS Galleria on Oahu.

I like thick liner on you. Something looks different today, is it a new concealer?

I used a little MAC Mineralize Concealer on the inner corners. I also used less foundation and powder, which I think allowed more sheen from MAC Strobe cream to come through. Thanks for noticing! 🙂

I swear by the gel liners in the humidity of Florida but I’d never heard of this brand before. I will have to keep an eye out & when its time to replenish, give them a shot. Thanks for letting me know about them.

They’re a boutique line that used to be carried at Sephora about six years ago; now they’re harder to find. They have some nice items, especially the powders!

I spent the day with my cat Toffee, unfortunately he couldn’t afford to take me out for a meal but he tried his best to make it up to mel- brought three mice in for me during the night! Clearly a sign of devotion! The eyeliner looks gorgeous, especially with the lip colour! x

I think I’m going to have to pick up a few makeup bags from their line. They have this one with a very cute gray tabby…

This is pricier than my trusty Blacktrack Fluidline, but I sure do like the lid of the jar and that it comes with a brush!

Lots of love coming back at you, Karen! 🙂

The liner looks really nice and I never wear any on my waterlines so that wouldn’t be an issue. I’m sort of getting into softer, smudged looks lately, though. I think the bold lines are starting to look too harsh on this old mug! 🙂

Thanks, Kim. 🙂 Can’t ever have enough of it!

Old mug? No way, I don’t believe it! Although I do love me a really soft line… that way when things start getting smudgy it looks purposeful.

How’s your week going so far? Mine has been busy. IS IT FRIDAY YET?

Oh, I wish! One more day! Then again, the Hubs is out of town and the boys have a hockey tourney starting tomorrow evening, so I’ll probably be busier on the weekend than I have been this week! 🙂

You’ll see how spastic I am when you read my major over-reaction in the Adele comments. HAHA! I’m such a dodo sometimes! 🙂

How are things shaping up for your weekend? Any fun plans?

Does the retractable brush compare to the one from Sonia K.? Also, in addition to my beloved fluidlines I’ve fallen for the Essence gel liners…how does this compare?

      Hi Staci,

They’re both good for different reasons. I find that with Sonia’s bent brush, I can get a sharper, cleaner edge. With this brush, the lines are softer and more diffused.

Re: Essence… aren’t those liner great? So cheap, too. Paul & Joe’s is drier and slightly thicker. I also think it’s sturdier. If you want real deal waterproof, then P&J might be the way to go.

Let me know if you have any other questions!

Thanks for the reply Karen. I do have the bent liner brush (on you recommendation and I love it-I also have ELF’s studio brand one that I travel with) but I was referring to the retractable liner brush from Sonia. The silver one, have you seen it?
