MAC Cosmetics Chill Collection: Swatches and First Impressions

December 11th, 2008 by Karen 24 Comments

There’s a chill in the air this Christmas, and MAC gets all the credit. The MAC Chill collection arrives on counters this December 26, and I can’t wait!

The collection’s eyeshadows, Lipglasses, glitters and new pen eyeliner heavily feature shades of gray, pink and black.

I’m really stoked about the eyeshadows; they’re going to make some great smokey eyes.

The swatches here cover all of the products in the release except for two — Vellum eyeshadow and Naked Lipglass. I’ll got those up as soon as I can.

In the pics above and below there may also be a renegade shimmery-bronze Lipglass (#6). I’d thought I was swatching Naked (not literally, LOL!), but the shade doesn’t like a shimmmery taupe, which is how MAC had described it.

Eyeshadows

  • 1. Arctic Gray: Frosty mid-gray
  • 2. Apres-Ski: Matte dark brown-gray
  • 3. Mont Black: Shimmery black with gold flecks
  • 4. Winter Sky: Frosty neutral pink
  • Note: The missing shade, Vellum, is a pale white duochrome with violet shimmer.

Lipglasses

  • 5. Frozen Dream: Shimmery mid-tone pink
  • 6. * See note below
  • 7. Snowscene: Shimmery white with pink, purple, blue and green glitter
  • 8. Icescape: Shimmery pale pink
  • * Note: Swatch #6 could be a mistake. I had it listed as Naked, a sheer taupe with silver pearlized pigments, but that’s obviously not the right shade.

Glitters

  • 9. Reflects Transparent Teal: Shimmery white and blue glitter
  • 10. Reflects Antique Gold: Shimmery gold glitter

Penultimate Liner

  • 11. Rapidblack: Deep black matte

What I’m Lemming

These are gonna be some of my favorite MAC eyeshadows to come out in a while, and even though I haven’t seen Vellum yet, it sounds gorgeous from the description: “a pale white duochrome with violet shimmer.”

And it looks like the shades form a cohesive palette, which hopefully means lots o’ different looks.

The Lipglass in Snowscene really got my attention. It’s packed with flecks of blue, green and purple glitter and bears a striking resemblance to Chanel Glossimer in Galactic, PRETTY!

As for the new pen eyeliner, Rapidblack, I have high hopes. I’m not always a big fan of pen eyeliners because I have a tough time controlling them, but it’s new, and I can’t wait to give it a try!

Random Thoughts…

Although I like the two pink Lipglass shades, neither one ignited my pink lipgloss fire, but I’m reserving final judgment until I’ve had a chance to try them on.

As for the two glitters, I know that Reflects Antique Gold had already been released before Chill (I can’t recall which collection), but they should deliver some serious POW! to nighttime and dramatic eye looks.

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

Hi Karen. The pink lipglasses look beautiful, but I don’t know if they can work on me. I can’t wait to try them on, and Snowscene too. I like Reflects Transparent Teal too but I don’t know what to do with glitters. Excited for Vellum and Wintersky too!

Snowscene sounds so beautiful! But on the lips? :\

Whatever #6 is, though, it looks kinda hot.

Um… Is it wrong that out of all the lipglasses, I love #6 the most?

Wait, don’t answer that. It’s probably just me being masochistic, and falling in love with the one shade we’re unsure of x.x

Rapidblack looks great, and I can’t wait for photos of it on you!! I love pen liners, and this one looks gorgeously pigmented and opaque, unlike most of them 🙂

Awesome, a new black shadow! I’ve been thinking of getting one of those and finally there’s a new one coming out. Phew, thank goodness I didn’t get any yesterday!

I am loving questionable shade number 6, whatever it may be 😛

I’m also looking forward to the pen eyeliners. Those could be totally awesome or totally suck. Let’s hope for the awesome!

Vellum was actually in the permanent eyeshadows until very recently. It was pulled & put into PRO only status maybe a month or six weeks ago. Hmmmmm…
Anyway, it’s my only lemming from this collection because I didn’t jump & buy it when it was listed in the goodbyes on the MAC website & now I regret it. Money was tight & I bought my precious Vapour as I fear it is destined to the same fate or worse & I had hit bottom in my pan.
I’m loving the transparent teal glitter, too, but probably won’t buy it. I don’t wear much glitter & this is coming out right after Christmas. $*ouch*$
    Thanks for the swatches!

I dont know why (as i hate pink) but ive been crushing pink lips recently and i like all of those glasses!!! I want the teal glitter too.. im not sure where ill put it (my old pot o’ mac glitter ended up on x-mas cards) but i want it!!!!

Karen..maybe you should do a ‘what to do with glitter’ post one day…teach people like me how to keep it in place and where to put it without looking like a lunatic!

Vellum is a premanent colour & might be good if you want to do a frosty purple or blue look. I’m loving Apres Ski & Snowscene!

I like this much more than Dame Edna! I’m really intrigued by snowscene lipglass-it looks fun. I also like the sound of naked (taupe), I hope you can track it down. I probably have similar shades to the eyeshadows.

I need to get Vellum because I didn’t get it when it was regular perm. I also like Apres-Ski and Arctic Gray. I also want to try that pen eyeliner. I’m on the fence about the lippies. I don’t really need another pink and the Snowscene one reminds me of the description of Snowgirl l/g and I HATED that l/g. I’m interested in the one described as a frosty taupe but I would have to see it. I think i’ll get a few things from this and maybe a couple (1 or 2?) from Dame Edna.

Winter Sky has been on my “want list” for months! 🙂 I’m not sure if I am going to get Frozen Dream yet because they look similar to my Cultured and Viva Glam SE that I have.

Thanks so much for the swatches!

I’m definitely getting all four lipglasses. I also am definitely getting Vellum, and I might get artic grey too (your swatch made it look better than I thought it was). I already have Reflects Antique Gold, so I don’t need that- I highly recommend it though for glitter lovers!

Mont Black from the swatch & your description sounds like a really old colour MAC used to have called Black Gold, basically a matte black shadow with gold flecks.

Also good to know Vellum is perm at Pro – I bought it when it first came out eons ago, when MAC was still making large shaodws…I don’t use it much!
