The MAC Fluidlines Were Great Before, But Now There’s Added Goodness

February 17th, 2012 by Karen 20 Comments

As much as I love and use the MAC Fluildine gel liners, I don’t think I’ve ever reached the bottom of one of them — not even my beloved pot of Blacktrack.

“Ultra-smooth, Fluidline’s gel formula provides the precision of a liquid liner with a silkier, softer finish. Goes on ‘foolproof’ with a brush in an easy dip-and-stroke action. Long-wearing. Smudge-proof. Lines up in a rich array of colours and finishes.”

–maccosmetics.com

Maybe that’s why I don’t get the urge to squirrel away multiple pots of the Fluidline colors, because each one lasts me so wondrously long.

Ah, but I did feel that urge today for the first time in ages — the urge to stock up on one (or two) spare pots of a new Fluidline — and the dang thing has such a perfect name!

They call it Added Goodness ($15), and for very good reason. MAC introduced this shimmery blackened mauve and two other limited edition Fluidlines, soft black Midnight Snack and blackened brown Wholesome, with the recently released Cook MAC collection.

Hark! — dost thou loins tremble? Don’t worry if they do. 🙂 Some products have that effect on people. I felt joy wash over me the first time I swept Added Goodness on my lids. Then, when I read the words, “coming soon,” on the MAC website, code for “temporarily out of stock,” I felt a tinge of sadness…

But it lifted the instant I spotted Added Goodness over at nordstrom.com.

It’s just such an interesting color (and it even shimmers!), that mix of mauve and black — rich enough for darker skin tones but not so intense that it appears harsh on lighter lasses.

Oh, and here’s even more Added Goodness: this mauve leans neither warm nor cool. It’s right in the middle of the color temperature dial, so I think it’ll work well for gals with warm or cool skin tones.

I love what it does for brown eyes, and when I wink at myself in the mirror, the little flecks of shimmery micro glitter in it catch the light, giving Added Goodness even more dimension.

Seems to really make my eyes stand out, and I have a very strong feeling the color will also work wonders for blue, green and hazel eyes.

I think MAC just handled every aspect of this product well. A single layer delivers rich, evenly pigmented color, and the soft, smooth texture makes it easy to incorporate into soft, smudgy looks or looks with crisp lines.

As a side, if you happened to pick up NARS Lhasa Eyeshadow from the NARS spring 2012 collection, please give it a try with Added Goodness. They make a great pair!

PRICE: $15

Now playing…

I came across this a capella version of Whitney’s How Will I Know today and had to share it with you. I’ve probably replayed it at least 10 or 20 times so far…

I think it really shows off Whit’s voice when she was in her prime.

Hope the rest of your day went well. Onward to the weekend, right? What’s the first thing on your agenda for Saturday morning?

Mine? Sleep until 8. 🙂

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

Hi Karen, I just went to Marshall’s today and they were selling the concealer from The Balm that you like (in the pot). It was included in a set with another concealer, translucent finishing powder, and a full size of the Balm Shelter tinted moisturizer. It was selling for $30. I know you said it’s hard to find the concealer now, so just letting you know:) Enjoy the weekend!

Karen, its so funny you should mention what ‘coming soon’ is code for – I was googling those very words earlier! Im trying to get my hand on the Orange blush fr the new collection and it’s showing as ‘coming’ soon’ on the site, but sold out at every store near me! :(i Not even the local MAC girl knew what that meant so I called the 800 number and they said their (MAC warehouse??) shipment had not arrived!! Do you think we still have a shot at the ‘coming soon’ LE items fr this collection? 🙂

Looks kinda like Essence London Baby (which is my fave btw, all thanks to your review from back when!). Can you compare the two? Not that I’ll be springing for a $15 eyeliner anytime soon, just curious, I guess. =)

I was thinking the same thing! How do the two stack up, color-wise? It’s very pretty though, hmmmm….

It looks so unique….not as stark as black …just a unique shade..doesnt it look a bit greyish in the photos though?
Btw would it also look like Smut eyeshadow?

I’m looking forward to this one! I like how it’s possibly dark enough to define my dark brown eyes, but it has an interesting twist!

I just posted a look wearing this fluidline with the orange/pink quad. This fluidline just works with everything! Now you have me thinking I need a backup!

i really really prefer “strange” colors like these one to black liner … its less harsher and i feel like it makes my tiny eyes seem bigger instead of smaller.

Reminds me a lot of UD’s liner in Stray Dog, my favorite liner shade of all time.

They really do last a long time! I picked up Midnight Snack and Added Goodness, and I’m pleased with both colors. The only color I go through quickly is Blacktrack, because I do black liner more often than any other color. And quickly is a relative term, it still takes me quite a while to work through it.

I think Midnight Snack also goes well w/Lhasa – haven’t tried it yet but did swatch on my hand – I both both – Love them both – I also think that the Chanel Prelude Quad goes w/these 2 – what do ya think?

I wish all three of the Cook MAC Fluidlines were permanent! They’re in real danger of narrowing their range, and their brown is too light for me, but these are just perfection.

Gorgeous! I wish that MAC made more Fluidline shades permanent, instead of making them LE. Seriously, I want to own them ALL.
