MAC Makeup, Makeup, Skin Care, Product Reviews: MAC Holiday 2007 Finery Limited Edition Plum Lips, Lola Spellbound Palette, Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream

Stocking Stuffers Galore – More Makeup and Beauty Blog’s Holiday Wishlist 2007
fussy-tabby-stocking-stuffer

My favorite part of holiday gift giving is getting fun stocking stuffers. Forget practical stuff like socks, underwear and dental floss. BLAH! I want fun makeup. Here are a few choice Holiday 2007 stuffers that the girls (and boys) in your life will dig.

More MAC Finery! Plum Lips – Oh La Lovely

Yesterday I posted some pictures of Coral Lips, my favorite group out of MAC’s Limited Edition Finery sets. Here are a few pics of the Plum Lips set, which comes a close second.

By far the stand out lippie here is Culture Class, a rich plum frost. I especially love it with a layer of Contessa Lipglass.

If you’re waffling between the two sets then I’d suggest looking at what colors you have missing in your lipstick collection. The Coral Lips set is definitely my favorite, but because I have so many coral colors I’d probably skip the set and go for the Plum.

In addition to being super cute, the lil’ tweed clutch is actually really handy! I put a compact and lipstick in one yesterday and popped it in my purse. Yes, I do see the irony of putting a little purse in a big purse but I was able to find my lipstick THAT much quicker.

Each set is $32.00. Buy a set for yourself and another one for your sister-in-law or best gal pal.

Lola Holiday 2007 Spellbound Palette – For the Glamour Girl

lol-holiday-2007-spellbound-palette

Lola’s Spellbound Color Clutch ($38.00) is one of the most beautiful palettes this Holiday season. It’s very vintage and 40s looking, with a pretty velvet design and rhinestone accent. You get: a mirror, three lip glosses, two crème blushes and 18 shadow shades in coordinating pans.

This palette gives a makeup newbie all she needs for plenty of fun hours of experimentation. Plus, it’s so handy and portable and hello, really super cute. The stand-outs are the crème blushes and lipglosses. They wear well and feel great on my cheeks and lips.

Your favorite niece or closest cousin will love it!

Bye, Bye, Dry! Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream RULES

elizabeth-arde-eight-hour-cream

My skin in the wintertime becomes a mess of alligator-esque, ashy dryness. I just discovered Elizabeth’s Arden’s Eight Hour Cream and THANK JEEBUS! Now I can’t live without it.

I’m not the only one who loves it. The Intensive Moisturizing Body Treatment is so great that it recently won an Allure Beauty award. Unlike lame-o Maybelline Great Lash Mascara (puke!) which wins every year for no good reason, Eight Hour Cream really deserves the title.

It’s thick and rich (I barely have to use any) but it sinks into the skin easily and doesn’t leave an oily film. It has a slightly herbal, unisex smell that you’ll either love it or hate. I don’t mind it so much because the product leaves me completely moisturized, and my skin feels soft all day. No scaly, itchy, or uncomfortable legs, hooray! It’s really all that and a bag of Cheetoes, people!

The Hand Cream is now a staple in my purse. Like the Body Treatment, it’s rich and moisturizing and doesn’t leave your hands feeling slick or oily.

Put this in everybody’s stocking. Your favorite metrosexual will forever be in your debt.

One huge 6.8 oz tube of Eight Hour Cream Intensive Moisturizing Body Treatment is $25.00. The Eight Hour Cream Intensive Moisturizing Hand Treatment is $17.00.

Need a Beauty Book Editor? Services fo’ Hire

Oh gawd! So yesterday I had all these plans to work on the blog but I got distracted by a little thing called sleep. I came home, sat on the couch, and next thing I knew it was eight or nine.

Anyway, I’m so glad that today is sunny. I am going to run a few errands, and then I get to read the manuscript of a beauty book that I’m working on for work. Yay! I’m so excited.

Hope your day has been fun so far! Doing anything exciting?

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

Oh, I adore Contessa lipglass. One of my favorites from Finery! Culture Class is so red on you! I’m going to have to apply this and see it on myself, because I don’t remember it being so deep.

Yeah, I dunno if it’s my undertones or what. It almost looks coppery on me.

What eyes would you pair culture class with? I want to do a FOTD with all the Finery sets and need some inspiration, MAC guru!

MAC has the best holiday sets every year. I love the Plum Lips – Contessa Lipglass.

Oh, and don’t worry about carry a small purse inside of a larger one. I actually recommend it! It’s an easy way to go from day to night.

Oh, the plum lips set looks HAWT! I think I’ll go splurge this weekend! The set looks worth buying for the Contessa alone, so the other two are cake! As for me, I have four purses in my purse, so I can always use one more!

Haven’t been to the dojo this week (head cold. ick.) but I’ll get back to you with any Marin County recommendations soon!

LOL, Glosslizard? Four purses? Okay, okay, I can’t give you too much grief ’cause when my hub and I were standing in line at Trader Joes (LOVE THAT STORE)this weekend, I picked through my purse and found: 1 tube of shiseido sunscreen, three tubes of MAC lipstick, one Lipglass, some Chapstick, one compact (Beauty Powder!), and one tube of mascara. The funny this is I have NO IDEA how it all got in there.

Aww, sorry ’bout your head cold. Those are the worst. Hope you feel better soon! Maybe a trip to the MAC counter will speed up your healing…

    Hi Zoe,

Yay! How do you like the pink lips set? I haven’t had the chance to try it.

I never realized how many people worshiped the Eight Hour Cream! It’s so freaking great. I can’t believe it’s taken me so long to find it.

    Thanks! 😀

Well, you know, inside my purse there’s the makeup purse, the pads o’ paper and writing stuff purse, the membership card and bonus card purse (all those little “buy X number of whatever and get one free” cards!), and the ubiquitous change purse! How else would I find anything? Of course, that’s in addition to the catch-all pocket where I keep the stuff that must be INSTANTLY accessible i.e. keys, cell phone and Chanel lipgloss! How do guys get away with just the pants pockets? I will never know!

P.S. I loves me some TJ’s too!! Check out the orange tubes of shave lotion, it’s the same as the Alba Botanica (I think that’s the brand) mango vanilla shave lotion and it’s wonderful!

LOL, glosslizard – I always have a pad of paper and writing stuff on me too. Even though I’ve got a crackberry (which is fine for taking notes), sometimes it’s faster to just whip out the pad and write it down.

I have no idea how guys just get away with pockets. It’s weird, my husband has an obsession with being “STREAMLINED.” He doesn’t carry lots of stuff and everything has to fit on his person. I’m just happy I don’t have to carry his crap, too. Believe me, if I had to I’d get him a manpurse.

I’ll look for that shave lotion. I am usually a leg waxer (it enables my laziness) but need a good lotion for my underarms. Thanks for the recommendation!

I hope you are feeling better today. How’s the cold?

P.S. I could go to TJ’s *every day*. It’s like heaven in there for me!

Hm, Culture Class, I would pair with downplayed “sunset” eyes, golds, soft brows… I’d probably even pair it with light greens (I always pair coral lipsticks with my greens!).

For specifics: try Uppity fluidline all over the lid, grab Metallic Eye palette and use Creme Royale on inner half of the lid, and then any true gold (Goldmine if you have it!) on outer half of the lid, use the red part of Mi’Lady (dry, not wet) in your outer crease, add a touch of a warm chocolate brown (Showstopper could work) to the crease to darken Mi’Lady’s red, then use any neutral to highlight the brow. Line lower rims with Goldmine or true gold shadow for extra oomph, or just put Creme Royale on the inner tear duct to open up eyes.

    Hi Allie,

Yeah, I never understood the hype around it. It always leaves smudges on me and doesn’t give my lashes any oomph.

As far as drugstore mascaras I can think of several that kick Greatlash’s booty!

    Hey Zoe,

I used to be really anti-frost, but now I like them more than I used to. You can always tone it down with a gloss on top!

Will you be getting any other MAC sets this year?

GOOD! I thought if I gave you specifics it would feed your inner laziness 😉

Oh, yes, greens and corals. I find that red lips are too much for most green looks (plus, you often get the “Christmas effect”), nude lips aren’t so bad, but they can be terribly pale. Raspberry and purple-tinged lips also end up being too over the top, in general. Corals and peaches are perfect!

I never thought of the red/green “Christmas” effect but that’s so true.

Speaking of organizing, I’m not sure what the heck to do about all the holiday palettes. See, I hate little palettes because I almost NEVER remember to reach for them later on, after their newness wears off. I depotted (de-paletted?) all of the holiday palettes from 2005 and 2006, so I could slot them into my regular 15 pan palettes for easy access (which are sorted by color, thankfully). But the packaging is so cute on these! Oh, dilemmas…

Nobody can blame you for depotting last year because that faux fur was nasty (I did like the jewel chain though).

You can’t depot these. It would be a tragedy.

Ok, question for you… I like waxing, but how do you handle the in-between part where you’re waiting for the hair to get long enough to do it again? The little stubblies drive me nuts! Any advice?

Hee hee! I’d totally make my guy get a man-purse too!

If I’m feeling motivated I’ll pluck. But it never gets too jungly because I do my own waxing, which means I can do it more often and it saves me money(I use the Parissa Hard Wax kit – it’s AWESOME). Doing it at home is so much cheaper than a salon.

The only thing I can’t wax is my underarms and my brows. Both are just too hard for me, for some weird reason.

Yeah, and rainbow organization is cool cause then you aren’t stuck thinking that the only colors that coordinate with the shadows are the ones in the palette.

Make the exception for these! The packaging is too pretty.

OH! If you are a waxing newbie Glosslizard, DO NOT use the Parissa Hard Wax Kit. I’m serious. Hard wax should only be for seasoned waxers, because it does not rinse off easily. If this is your first time use the Sugar Wax kit, which washes off easily with water. E-mail me if you need specific tips!
