Oh, These Are Haute! The New Milani Haute Flash Full Coverage Shimmer Lipglosses

February 22nd, 2012 by Karen 25 Comments

Wearing Milani Haute Flash Full Coverage Shimmer Lipgloss in In a Flash on my lips

A hella pigmented, high-shine glittery gloss for less than eight bucks? Hook it up, Milani! 🙂

The new Haute Flash Full Coverage Shimmer Lipglosses cost a mere $7.49 each, and yet they deliver flashy, full-coverage color the likes of pricier department store fare (I’m talkin’ to you, MAC, YSL and Chanel).

Like distant, disco-crazed cousins of the MAC Kissable Lipcolours ($19), these six Haute shades are loaded with pigment, so a little of each goes a long way, and have super skinny tubes and sponge tip applicators, but unlike their Kissable kin, they also glisten with glitter.

Both the Haute Flashes and Kissables start off feeling slick and smooth on my lips, but the Haute shades aren’t content with that. They seem to thicken and get much stickier after the first 15 minutes or so, and just generally, I think they like being babied.

Because they tend to catch on dry flakes and settle into every lip line, if my lips are anything less than perfectly smooth and moisturized, the Haute Flashes can look pretty janky. Exfoliating and prepping my lips with a lip balm beforehand definitely helps them look their best.

And have I mentioned how pigmented these are? I only need to use a minuscule amount, which is neat. Of course, if I happen to apply a tad too much, the Haute Flashes make me pay for it by looking thick and messy.

Sometimes, after applying one of them, I think the Haute Flashes can look a little patchy and uneven, so I’ll press my lips together a few times and/or use a finger to spread and pat down the product, which seems to work just fine.

A few more details…

  • Wear time: These can last up to six hours on my lips, but the colors usually begin to fade and separate after four.
  • Flavor and scent: These have both, a light vanilla flavor and scent.
  • Moisturizing: Not exactly. My lips feel a little dry and flaky after wearing the Haute Flashes, but layering a moisturizing lip balm beneath them certainly helps.

With a little work put into applying and caring for these throughout the day, I think these Haute Flashes are awesome — so shiny, so glittery, and oh, so bright. I only wish they were more also moisturizing.

Even so, they might be worth the price of admission, especially if you’ve been looking for a dramatic budget gloss with loads of personality, pigment and shine.

PRICE: $7.49 each (now $6.99 at milanicosmetics.com)
AVAILABILITY: Available now at drugstores and also online

Pretty colors! My lips get really dry in the winter, so thanks for the tip about exfoliating and using lip balm.

P.S. Your eye makeup looks gorgeous. 🙂 I’m really chomping at the bit to try out some purple looks – it’s one of my favorite colors!

Sure thing, Ruchita. If I don’t moisturize and exfoliate my lips look a hot mess!

Oh, and since you love purple, I think you’ll really enjoy the MAC Shop & Drop quad I used for the eye look here. There’s a violet shade that is just so lovely. I hope you get the chance to check it out soon.

      Hi Glosslizard!

Hee hee, I think it’s the earrings. They’re my rock star pair.

How’s it going today? Isn’t this weather we’re having surreal? It almost feels like summer.

Aaawwww yeah, I’m definitely picking these bad boys up. As far as moisurizing goes, i’m not too concerned b/c I almost always use a balm under everything. My lips are moisture whores so there’s just never enough! 😉 I seriously heart the pigmentation with these drug store beauties!! Oh, and you are lookin’ totes faboo in your pics, Karen!

      Hi Jae,

What balms have you been loving on lately? I could always use another moisturizing lip product.

These look awesome! I can’t deal with fussy or anything that settles into fine lines or dry flakes but they look so good. I just know that they would not look as fab on me as they do on you! 🙂

      Hey girlfriend,

The fine line thing stresses me out too. Hmm… how do you feel about the Chanel Glossimers? They have a gorgeously pigmented shade right now called Jalousie that packs a TON of pigment, but it doesn’t do the separation thing. One of these days I’m going to get you to wear a crazy bright lip!

I liked the Glossimers and remember Jalousie from your review but I’ll have to go back to your pic and check it out again. I had my eye on those YSL lippies for sure. I’ll be in SoCal in a couple of weeks and plan to hit a Sephora while I’m there (and do some swatchin’). 🙂

Lookin’ good, Karen! I love your outfit and hair in these pics. I’m so impressed with Milani. Their eyeliners are fab and I love the finish these glosses have. I do get that weird bald spot on my center bottom lip when I wear these, but the gloss smooths out if I leave it alone. Thanks for the swatches! 😉
