Milani’s New Spring 2012 Runway Eyes Eyeshadows for Spring 2012 Have Something Big in Common With Tabs

March 5th, 2012 by Karen 33 Comments

I like my kitty supermodels chunky…

E! True Hollywood Story: Tabs the Cat, from Stray to Supermodel

…and my eyeshadows smooove, like Ryan Gosling. 🙂

Last weekend I gave Milani’s three new spring 2012 Runway Eyes eyeshadows a try, but instead of marveling at their sparkly abundance and bodacious $6.99 price tag, I kept getting distracted by something in the mirror…

Chunks, and not the kind I like.

When I apply these dry, I can see the grains chillin’ on top of my eyelids. No, they aren’t the smoothest shadows at the rodeo, if you catch my drift.

Applied wet, using a brush moistened with MAC Fix+, seems to smooth out the texture. It also intensifies the shimmery colors of these shadows, in particular Golden Touch (the golden beige) and Peaches & Cream (the silvery peach), but I still see stray grains on my lids that I feel the urge to buff.

Golden khaki Antigua, on the other hand, gets closer to great. I think it looks and feels smoother than the other two shades, and at least for me, with its hint of gray, has the most star power among these three.

From the left, Antigua, Golden Touch and Peaches & Cream applied dry (the three shades on the left) and wet (the three shades on the right)

Moderate fallout is another crutch these have to bear. I notice it both while I’m applying them and throughout the day, so you may want to do your eye makeup first when using these, and keep some makeup wipes on standby.

Too bad about the texture, but with colors as pretty as these and prices this right, I think I’m going to keep trying to make them work.

PRICE: $6.99
AVAILABILITY: Available now at drugstores and also online

Unsung Hero: Enzo the Baker

“If there is trouble, I stay here to help you. For your father. For your father.”

Did you happen to watch any of the The Godfather on AMC last weekend? They had a movie-fest all weekend long to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the first one, so of course I was in heaven because I love, LOVE the first two movies. All 6.25 hours of ’em. They’re both in my list of top 10 movies of all time.

While I was watching the first one for what must have been the billionth time, I realized something…

Enzo the baker, who goes to pay his respects to the godfather at the hospital after he’s been shot — that dude is an unsung hero.

Despite Michael telling Enzo to leave for his own safety, the baker offers to stay, and if it hadn’t been for him standing out there on the stoop in front of the hospital with Michael, the other families would have finished off the don.

Dude, if the sh*z ever hits the fan, I’ll be your Enzo, if you’ll be mine… 🙂

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

That is quite a magnificent tabby tummy – I love a chunky cat who’s not afraid to flaunt it.

I actually quite like the look of the Antigua applied wet – I’m trying to find something that comes even mildly close to the gorgeousness of the Armani Eyes to Kill no 6 – that greenish/greyish/golden/khaki color!

Awww, I want to rub Tabs’s belly! I’d even tolerate it if he bit me.

I saw these at the store, and they looked pretty in the pan, but I figured they’d be a bit chunky with the glitter. Glad I saw your review!

My husband lied and tricked me out of watching the first part…grrrrrrrrr..but the rest of it I sat through and saw. I just wish they didn’t have that many of those commercial breaks …was really difficult to stay up so late..but so worth it 😀

Awww. Sorry to hear about Oscar, Mam706. I’m sure you must have lots of good memories of him. And don’t forget he’s looking down on you from Kitty Heaven while eating a bowl of tuna. No, really. That does happen.

Too bad about the chunky texture and fallout. I was thinking Antigua is a great color in pan. Uh oh well…

Try MAC Sumptuous Olive. It’s a little more gold and less gray, but I think it has a similar feel.

Great list, btw. Shawshank, The Graduate and Love Actually are some of my faves, too.

You MUST watch Godfather and Godfather II. The third one, though, fuggedaboutit!

Ooh, Tabs. Fluffy but fierce! 🙂 I’ll give a big pass to the shadows, not that I’m all that shadowy to begin with, but working around chunks and fallout is the deal breaker.

No doubt with Enzo! I love, love the first Godfather and was bummed to see I’d missed the AMC special with the extra footage and interesting cutting. I would have been glued to it, too. 🙂 I remember being a little gaga over Michael in part 1, even though I knew Al P hadn’t looked like that in 20 years. HAHA!

Haha… I was gaga over the younger Vito in Part II.

Although it was really interesting to see the extra scenes, I can see why most of them got cut. Thank goodness for film editors!

What are your feelings about the third film?

You know how I love chunky kitty babies. Jazz always sleeps on my torso, to warm me up at night. He’s always right on schedule. 🙂

I’ve noticed that Milani single shadows are kinda sheer and give me grief with fallout. It’s a shame, because I keep hoping to make them work.

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE The Godfather. Was mandatory to watch as a kid and teen because I’m half Southern Italian. Also a huge fan of the TV show “The Sopranos.”

I find with the Milani eyeshadows, it helps to apply them in thin layers. Not so much fallout, and more control over where they go. They are not the first eyeshadows I reach for when I want something quick – usually when I go for them I am going for a look that takes a little longer to perfect. I like the Runway collections in the sets that come with 5 shadows – they do have some fallout but I find them easier to apply than the singles. I think Milani has great colors for their eyeshadows, and I have also noticed that with a primer they will last all day. They just take a little more care and control than others to apply.

Btw, Milani was one of the first makeup companies I bought from when I got a full time job. That’s why I am fond of them, and also have learned to try everything in my power to make them work for me. Milani also had longer lasting shadows than Maybelline, Cover Girl, or other drugstore brands I had tried without any form of primer.

I like the look of Antigua when applied wet! I always fall for khaki/olive/golden toned eye shadows.
