The Holiday in Balm Springs Kit Is Da Bomb

December 23rd, 2008 by Karen 10 Comments

LOL, yeah, so that term’s been out of style since the mid-90s, but I couldn’t pass up the chance to be cheesy! 🙂

Out-of-date slang abuse aside, The Balm Holiday in Balm Springs’ three-piece eye makeup kit ($18) deserves mad props (ha!). The two eyeshadows have great texture and color, and the eyeliner won’t budge for nuthin’.

Three Flexible Eye Products

Overshadow — a shimmery, lemon-gold loose eyeshadow — looks great as a wash over the entire lid thanks to its high pigmentation and finely milled texture.

Shady Lady eyeshadow is a shimmery, warm bronze with a sheer but buildable payoff that totes reminds me of Clinique eyeshadows. I think it’s gorgeous when paired with plum or purple liner.

Pick-Up Liner, a matte, cool-toned brown eyeliner, stays put all day long. It’s long-wearing, and at first touch doesn’t feel soft or malleable, but after prepping the tip by warming it up between my fingers for 30 seconds, it really comes into its own, softening and becoming much easier to apply.

Stuff That Stocking, Yo!

I like that there isn’t a red herring in this kit. All three of the products are useful and none of them go OTT.

What’s on Whitney’s Head?

Did you catch The Hills season finale last night? How about the after show on MTV? Cast member Whitney, soon to be starring in her own show (lucky girl!), The City, showed up with a most interesting hair accessory.

What was on homegirl’s head? Was that a pantyhose wreath? WARNING: Craft store project takes tragic turn, LOL!

I love Whit to pieces (how could you not love someone who falls down a flight of stairs wearing Hillary Swank’s Oscar dress on live TV yet who maintains her composure the entire time?), but I couldn’t decide if the pantyhose wreath was workin’ for or against her.

Note to self: If I ever fall down a flight of stairs on live TV, get right back up and smile.

What did you think of the Heidi-Spencer drama at the end of the show?

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

I normally try to stay as far away from crap that does nothing but fill your head with mush but….felt….the pull…..of crap..tv…was too strong. I wanted to take that Stevie Nicks monstrosity and beat her with it! I also wanted to slap that Audrina chick for wasting too much time hanging around that douchebag Justin, who quite obviously could give 2 craps about her.
Oh yeah and I would like to punch Heidi in the ovary so she cant repoduce with Spencer…theres enough douche-baggery in the world as it is!
    Merry Christmas Karen.

well from the previews apparently she is working for dvf in nyc… and in the spring 2009 runway all the models for dvf were wearing that hair thing, i guess it is a wreath?? its very pretty, but i dont think i would have the guts to wear it.

I LOVE the packaging on these sets from The Balm! Did you get a chance to look at Balm Beach? It’s another cute little set, but with 3 shadows and a tinted lip gloss. It’s on sale!

I hate to say it, but I’m kind of over The Hills. I was totally obsessed with this show for the first 2 1/2 seasons, and my interest has been fading ever since… And now I can’t stand Spencer and his “flesh-colored-beard” so much that it makes it difficult to watch the show. I hope these girls finally get it together in season 5.

And Whitney reminds me of something that belongs in “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” or something! She looks like a fairy! Or like she has a dreamcatcher on her head!

Of course I watched the Hills finale last night! Interesting twists!
I was amused my Whitney’s headpiece, but I was more revolted by Jessi’s dress… What was that, and upside down carnation? I don’t think it was flattering at all! It made her whole middle and hips look HUGE!

Also I do agree the world would probably be a happier place if it weren’t for Spencer.
Happy Sunny Christmas, enjoy it extra for those of us enduring -30 Celsius right now!

    Hi Mcnals,

Yah, I’m not sure how I feel about it… I can see one of the Olsen twins rocking it, but on Whit I wasn’t sold.

    Hi Rachel,

I guess it might look cute on someone who dresses a bit more edgy, but I dunno if it’s working on Whit, yikes.
