A Golden Shimmer Surrounds Tom Ford’s New Long-Lasting Cream Color for Eyes

April 18th, 2012 by Karen 24 Comments

tom ford guilt cream color for eyes

Tom Ford’s new line of Cream Color for Eyes cream eye shadows are easier on eyes than they are on purses and wallets, but I think the new $40 shadows are all kinds of awesome, especially if you like long-lasting makeup that doesn’t take a lot of fussing.

I’ve been getting to know Guilt and Illicit this week, two of the four limited edition shades, and both colors last all day long on my lids. Guilt, a warm, sheer golden shimmer, contains the finest flecks of gorgeous micro-glitter. And pearly reddish brown Illicit has a similar golden shimmer.

NOTE TO TOM: Please move these (and add more shades!) to the permanent line, because yeah, awesome!

For starters, they sure stick to lids. Both of them, Guilt and Illict, last all day long on my lids with or without an eye primer.

They’re fluffy, like a mousse, and feel wet. And they have a bit of bounce to ’em when I tap the pot with a finger. The consistency reminds me of the YSL Fard Lumière Aquarésistant, which I’ve long liked.

I’ve been applying and wearing them a few different ways and like my results pretty much no matter what. They don’t seem to have a preference between being applied with a brush or fingers, but I have found that if I over-apply, they do tend to crease.

No problem, though. They’re so shimmery and pigmented that I don’t feel like I have to use much.

PRICE: $40 each
AVAILABILITY: Available now online and at Neiman Marcus and Saks Fifth Avenue stores
MAKEUP AND BEAUTY BLOG RATING: A- (so great, but expensive, too!)

Karen

Oooh, the texture…I wonder if it’s like the Shu Uemura eye jellies that were released way back in 2005 (I don’t know why they were limited-edition because they were incredible!) – those had a little bounce when you tapped them too. Must investigate these…thanks for the swatches!

These are pretty, but they seem kind of ordinary to me – are they more complex in person?

      Yup! They’re even more shimmery.

This looks and sounds like all kinds of tempting! I’m so glad there truly are cream eyeshadows that don’t crease out there nowadays. And a GOLD cream shadow? AAAWESOME!

      Hi Sunny,

You should definitely check out the YSL ones. They last a long time too!

And yet another amazing product by Tom Ford! I love the shade selection, it looks like a million bucks to me and cream shadows are so great and easy to use! Great to hear that they last on your eyes, because thats the tricky part of cream shadows with me, they slide off after a while.

      Hey Nina!

I love it too. 🙂 Especially because I can skip using a brush! Plus, it feels like finger painting. 🙂

Yep! I love products that I can haphazardly apply with my fingers! I love a messy, undone look for the summer! 🙂

Anddddd… have I ever told you ive had the smallest crush on Tom Ford ever since I watched A Single Man? 🙂 I feel like he is the quintissential renaissance man. 😉

Love the guilt color. That would make a great base shimmer.

      Hi Angela,

If you like that shade, you might also like YSL’s Fard Lumière Aquarésistant in Golden Sands:

It’s a little cooler compared to Guilt and the glitter pieces are bigger. Super pretty!

      Hi Louise,

I know it’s kinda pricey, but on the plus side, you don’t need to use a lot of product! A pot should last a really long time.

Oh, these look awesome. Gold is not my color but one of the 4 has to be, right? 🙂 I love the idea of some eyelid finger painting for summer! I’m ignoring that $40 price tag.

LOL, maybe if you keep your eyes closed the price tag will disappear eventually? That works for me when I think about buying another pair of shoes, haha!

Let’s see… there’s a Cream Color shade called named Platinum. You like those silvery gray shades, right?
