Chanel Fandango Joues Contraste Powder Blush: A Pink Brown Flush for Spring

January 1st, 2009 by Karen 30 Comments

Chanel Fandago blush ($42) temporarily helped me forget that it’s cold enough outside to freeze my butt bones.

After two layers I felt like winter had ended. There was a flush to my cheeks that I hadn’t seen in months, and I felt like I’d spent the afternoon twirling through sun dappled fields o’ flowers.

As the only blush released with Chanel’s Spring 2009 Bohemian Fantasy Collection, Fandango, a shimmery pink and brown, applies with intense color that really brings out the brown in my skin. To avoid dark, muddy cheeks, I layered it slowly with a MAC 187 skunk brush, trying to use a light touch.

With my skin tone, I settled on two layers, but lighter skinned beauties may want to try just a single layer applied lightly with a fan brush.

Chanel Fandango Joues Contraste Powder

Price: $42
Use: A rich pink and brown powder blush
Makeup and Beauty Blog Rating: A

Unfortunately, like nearly all Chanel products, Fandango costs an arm and a leg, but anything that helps me see past the gloomy winter weather gets a YEE-HAW from me.

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

Ohh that looks so pretty on you! I’m super fair, I wouldn’t be able to pull this color off, but I’m on the hunt for a good peachy/pink blush. I’m a C3 from MAC and i have very dark hair..

    Let me know, thanks Karen!

have you tried mocha or Euro Brume D’or? Can you compare them with this? all of the 3 seem to be similar in the pictures.

    Happy New Year, Karen!

In the pan and swatched, the blush looked potentially too dark, but alas it looks great on you (as usual)! Kudos CHANEL for irresistible products!

Hi Karen. It is beautiful on you. On me, it is just brown, but lovely if I dust it lightly over another pink blush. I tried the nail polishes again and I don’t know why I can’t get the micro-glitters to show from Vendetta.

It’s funny because when I saw this, I thought, this would look great on Karen from the makeupandbeautyblog :). I think I might even have posted that here earlier. But it would look horrid on me, unfortunately :(. Oh well, at least I got Mystic Eyes quad and Wild Rose glossimer!

Fandango is soooo pretty 🙂 Fair-skinned ladies: you really must try this one on, even though it looks like it wouldn’t work for you. I’m pale with neutral undertones, and it’s the perfect peachy bronze flush on me.

    Hi Vanessa H.,

Heya! Hmm, you might like from MAC: Peaches, Pinch O’ Peach and Springsheen. 🙂 Do you have a fan brush? It really helps to control the color. Shu Uemura makes a great one called the 7.5EX (weird name, I know!).

Here’s a link to a review I did last year if you’d like to check it out:

    Hope this helps!

    Hi Jojoba,

    Thanks, m’dear!

I haven’t tried those other colors. I’ll write them down in my notebook and check them out when I head to the counter again.

    Happy New Year!

    Hi Lilan,

Happy New Year, girl! You could totally wear this if you worked slowly and used a fan brush…

    Hi Miss QQ,

Oh, that sounds like a really pretty combo. I will try the same thing when I wear this next.

I see what you mean regarding Vendetta. A lot of it is the lighting… when I’m in a place with tons of light I can really see it, but if I’m in my bedroom (which has limited light) then it doesn’t really show.

I hope you try it again, even if it’s just for fun. It’s a lovely color!

🙂 Yah, I remember you writing about that!

I am going to play with the Mystic Eyes quad today. 🙂 So excited! What looks have you done with it so far?

    Hi Karen,

Surprisingly, it worked just fine with my normal fluffy blush brush! But I apply my loose powder after blush, so that tones it down a bit.

I don’t own a fan brush but after reading your post yesterday I was thinking about it. We’ll see though, I’m pretty in love with my skunk brush 🙂

All I can say is that looks great on your, like you’ve come directly from summer vacation with great tan. Usually i have to apply something on my neck also, cause otherwise the difference will show.

    Hi Karen!

OMG, Fandango is so gorgeous on you! How does it compare to Enchanteresse?

    Hi Vanessa H!

As a fellow pale-skinned, dark-haired lass, I highly recommend a fan brush! Seriously, having one opened up a whole new world of blush possibilities and they hug the cheekbone like nobody’s business! 🙂 Also, check out Benefit’s Coralista, their powder formulas tend to be really easy to apply lightly!
