Wild Sables Couldn’t Keep Me Away From the Chanel Soleil Tan de Chanel Luminous Bronzing Powders in Sable Beige and Sable Rose

I’m a card-carrying, unabashed, self-styled Chanel nut.

Even El Hub knows it, and it took him three days to notice that I dyed my hair pink. 🙂

Whenever I see those interlocking double Cs, I’m like a doe in headlights. I freeze in my tracks! Spittle dripping down my chin…

Hey, those beautiful black compacts are more than good looking. They’re also good listeners, and they’re always there for me when I’m feeling needy or craving affection.

Poor El Hub just doesn’t understand… When he came home yesterday, I was giving tiny kisses to the two Chanel Soleil Tan de Chanel Luminous Bronzing Powders ($60).

“Um, sweetie?” he asked, uncertainty heavy in his voice. “Are you kissing your Chanel…?”

“Mmm…” I answered, “Yes.”

“That’s so weird.”

“Mwah! They get kisses because they’re good! And I love them!”

“Okay, but what’s really strange,” he replied, “is that this is not the first time this has happened.”

“Wanna hear about these new bronzers? They’re pretty rad.”

“Is this a trick question?”

“Oh, fine. Party pooper. I’d rather talk about it with the gals on the blog anyway.”

Chanel designed Sable Beige, a golden bronzed beige with whispers of peach, and Sable Rose, a darker golden pinkish bronze, to impart a subtle warmth to the skin. Both are limited edition and part of the new Summertime de Chanel collection available now on counters and from chanel.com.

See the strips of color up there in the pan? Chanel did something similar last summer with the $50 Soleil Tan de Chanel Moisturizing Bronzing Powder, except that one had four strips of color, and these two have seven.

The strips are pretty narrow, but you can try to apply them separately, or swirl all of the colors together.

That’s what I’ve been doing, swirling and wearing them as both a blush and a bronzer.

I’m pretty cranky about Chanel jacking up the price… $50 for last year’s Moisturizing Bronzing Powder was bad enough, but now $60 for each of these? What’s next? $70 next year?

I do have to say that I love how my skin looks when I’m wearing these, all bronzed and golden, relaxed and fresh, like I spent the whole afternoon lounging around on the deck outside, sipping lemonade in a papasan chair and reading Us Weekly. No muddiness, orange undertones or streaks.

Sable Beige, the golden peachy beige one, I wear mostly (but not always) as a blush; it has this wonderfully subtle brightening effect on my cheeks.

And Sable Rose has been my go-to product for contouring, as of late. Darker than Sable Beige, it has a rosy tint to it that gets along great with a tan.

I think both of them are much more pigmented than last year’s bronzer. Instead of having to pack on three or four layers like last year, I only need one or two layers for these.

Chanel did something really interesting with the shimmer this year, too. Both of these have a strip of semi-pearly gold (where the Chanel logo is raised), and its effect is more nuanced than straight up glitter. Like something Becca might do, and I think it’s neat.

I adore both of these Sables, but if I had to pick one to spend two weeks with on a deserted island…I’d pick Sable Beige. I just think the peachy tones work really well with the subtle golden shimmer, and I like how it adds a little definition without looking too obvious.

PRICE: $60 each
AVAILABILITY: Available now at Chanel counters and chanel.com
MAKEUP AND BEAUTY BLOG RATING: A (so spendy, but these are shades I could easily wear every day this summer)

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

P.S. Hope you had a nice day today. 🙂 I just finished sitting down to dinner with El Hub on the deck. I had a salad with apple slices, fennel, blue cheese and walnuts, and he had a hamburger.

Are you watching The Voice finale tonight?

I hope that if I have TV dreams this evening, they involve Cee Lo’s fluffy white cat. That would be Purrfect.

I thought I was going to be able to ignore this collection, but I am sadly mistaken! I have yet to own one of these Chanel stripey beauties! I think maybe it’s high time I do! You look so glowy and lovely! So the pink one is darker you say?

      Hi Tracy,

When I saw the promo pics I wasn’t sure how I’d feel about it, but then I started digging into the products. They do a lot of playing with coverage and shimmer. It’s subtle, but there’s a restrained sort of elegance to it that I really like.

The pink shade reads darker on my skin. I tried it as a blush, but the beige version seems to do a better job of brightening and adding that special glow. 🙂

What else are you interested in from the launch?

thanks for the review I bought these too and I was so happy my husband ask me wat happend ha, ha so I totally understand you kissing them I just wanted to all day too. I do agree if you that you could only get one it would be the sable beige got that one first but caved a few days later and got the sable rose to love this one as a blush and as they are LE did not want to regret not getting them later, I like them much better as last years. What else did you get from the summer collection?

So so jealous of your tan!!! Lookin like a bronzed goddess! I had last year’s LE bronzers from Chanel as well, and I, too was disappointed with the huge price increase with these babies! I think that’s what steered me away 🙁

One consolation for the higher price there is more product in these bronzers Product size 15 g/0.53 oz instead of Product size 14 g/0.49 oz. And I do think they are worth the money I was lucky to get them with a vip discount voucher.

Hm, a $10 rise in price with only 1 g more product somehow doesn’t add up, but I’m still going to get them. 🙂

I almost never wear bronzer, but these are gawwwgeous. A little too spendy for this grad student, but I might have to go visit my friend, who is a Chanel counter manager, and play with this. You look so glowy!

Well, you do look fantastic wearing these. I know they’re $10 more, but you can also apply 2-3 less layers, right? That saves product and money! 🙂

You salad sounds delish, but I have to go with El Hub on the burger. 🙂

I’m SERIOUSLY tempted by Sabel Beige (it’s highly convenient that you’re exactly my shade!), but alas, I have my eye on some Le Metier de Beaute items that will surely burn a hole in my wallet.

I was going to skip the bronzers this year because I loved last years (and I have barely made a dent). However, I must get Sable Rose! The price increase is very annoying. I spent a fortune on the Kensington collection and swore I would never spend that much on a single blush ever again LOL!

These are so so so so gorgeous!!! But I told myself that I had to choose between Sable Rose and the Burberry Sheer Summer Glow compact (as they’re both supposed to have a similar effect on the skin)–and I chose Summer Glow. I hope I can resist still getting this one though…:P

Those look so pretty! Do they add more of a shimmer glow to your face or do they really add a bronzed up color to your face?
