The MAC Beth Ditto Nail Laquers Look Sweet, But $16 Buys a Lot of Starburst

I can’t decide if the new candy-colored MAC Beth Ditto Nail Lacquers ($16 each) remind me more of Starbursts or Jordan Almonds…but Nocturnelle, the black crème, has to be licorice.

The lot of ’em (all limited edition) had me craving candy and humming happy tunes all afternoon.

I applied three coats of three of them, the brighter ones — Near Beth Experience (the light yellow crème), Life and Beth (the milky peach crème) and Vagabondage (the mid-tone lavender crème) — and two coats of Nocturnelle.

Is it just me, or do these remind you of candy…?

And they’re not half bad as nail lacquers, either. I think MAC’s stepped up their nail polish game over the past few years. I used to have big issues back in the day with their durability, and with their finishes falling a little flat, but these high-shine shades here would probably shine just fine without a top coat.

They also seem to be getting more durable. With MAC’s more recent shades, when I wear them with a good base coat, I can usually get at least 6-7 days before chipping; if I add a top coat, that tacks on a couple more days.

The MAC Beth Ditto Collection Nail Lacquers

  • All four of these have a pretty thick consistency.
  • The three pastels apply a little streaky. Starting with a base coat helps, as does applying a third layer.
  • I hope MAC considers going with a different brush in the future, because I have a hard time getting a crisp edge at the base of my nail with this one. I can usually freehand a sharp edge with most nail polishes, but not with these.

Seeing the group of these together is giving me ideas for a new multi-colored mani. 🙂

Truth be told, though, I think all of these are pretty dupe-able for less than $16 each.

PRICE: $16 each
AVAILABILITY: Available online now at maccosmetics.com, and coming to North American MAC counters and stores June 7; internationally, later this month

I love the colours! I have never tried any MAC nail lacquers, since they are on the pricy side and I haven’t heard too many good reviews about them. I am glad that they are improving in terms of quality! Hopefully one day it’d be able to convince me to try them!

On a side note, Life and Beth reminds me a lot of A Crewed Interest by Essie! What are your thoughts on that, Karen?

The light peachy color is right up my alley, but I agree that they are slightly too pricey!

The first and last MAC polishes I bought were from the Quite Cute collection last year… I didn’t like the consistency- it got gloopy so fast!! Also the brushes were terrible, with splayed out, stray bristles 🙁

I’ll stick with my cheaper, better drugstore polishes 🙂

I sm loving Near Beth Experience and Life and Beth! I figured they would probably apply a little streakily, but they’re so awesome I’m going for them anyway 🙂

    Happy Caturday, Karen (and Tabs).

I love the colors and Beth Ditto…but 16 dollars for one bottle is a little more than I’m willing to shell out. I’m crossing my fingers for a sale!

These are cute colors, but I think you’re totally right in saying they’re dupe-able! I’m still looking for a yellow with a good formula. Apparently like purple eyeshadows, yellow nail polishes are very often under-performers, but I tried one on and really like the color!

Have you tried the yellows from Illamasqua? I think they have three – I haven’t tried those particular shades, but I’ve been wearing one of their other polishes for almost two weeks, and it’s going strong. I’ve heard good reviews for most of their shades.

pretty shades 😀 they do remind me of candies, indeed 😀 but anyway, MAC is very expensive over here(only one small store in my country-lol) and i’m not buying anything from them while i’m still a high-schooler w/ little money, lol
i like the fact that they don’t have shimmer….seems like most cheap polishes here have shimmer, i hate it 😛
