Blush for Beginners

January 15th, 2009 by Karen 32 Comments

Hi, ladies! How’s your day been?

Mine started out rough because I woke up sleepy, but things have steadily improved (coffee = joy).

Here’s another attempt at a video. This one’s about blush, and I apologize because I let Tabs do the editing. I think he got a little carried away. 🙂

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

Karen I love you blog and your videos! So entertaining, you really do what you do very well!!! I just discovered your blog and have spent several nights staying up until 3am catching up on your addictive writing. Keep it up…. so far you’re the only bookmark on my iPod Touch I got for Christmas!

That entrance is just great 😀

I love blush, I’ve found that amongst the piles I have of it around, that NARS Deep Throat is by far my favourite and I’ve actually hit the pan on it! A close second is Benefit’s Coralista though… it’s a really great blush and it’s one of the few that my hubby actually complemented me on 😉

Oddly enough, I don’t own a single MAC blush, however, I have been intrigued by them and the MSFs so I’ll probably own one (or more) by the next pay check on the 30th <3

Oh, I loved your beginning. It’s funny, now that I watch your videos, I can hear your real voice when I read your blog. haha. I love how cheerful you are in these videos, Keep em up!

Never really started wearing blush until last year so I’ve been using Gingerly by MAC but I fear it may have attributed to my cheeks becoming my new break out zones. I just ordered a clearance Vincent Longo blush duo and NARS Crazed. I wanted Mounia [thanks to your review] but they didnt have it. I am currently debating on whether to get Amour or Deep Throat next..

As usual…a great video!! I didn’t know Neutrogena was one of your faves…I should check out Soft Suede.

Curious to know why you’re recommending to start out with matte finishes?

Also, I have a request – could you do a vid on how to use bronzers? They completely mystify me…I own a MAC stick version (came out eons ago) and a pressed powder one (also MAC) but I feel I’m not using them right.

    Thanks!

Can you give us an application tutorial? I always feel like I have issues applying my blush properly. Thanks Karen!

    Karen,
I love all your videos! Your so cute and funny. I laughed when you started the video with the guitar!! Haha. I usually wear bronzer but I ordered some smashbox soft lights in lens. A pale peachy color. I always usually over apply blush. Maybe you could do a video on how not apply too much blush!

    Love the videos. 🙂

Also, I’ve been using Physicians Formula Mineral Wear Talc-Free Mineral Loose Powder Blush. The name is a mouthful, and the packaging is awkward, but it is the only blush that doesn’t break me out and make me look shiny.

karen I love your blog! It’s the only one that really meets my makeup needs… lols. I love the mac’s blush! When I feel peachy I use MELBA, I find it gives me a very natural look… and Stark Naked for a more cute show offish look. Love them. I do need a good brush, though. I always find a good excuse to not buy it, but I cant put it off anymore. The one I use is really begginin to bug me!! It does NOT apply evenly… thanks for the suggestion.

I’d like to second Katee’s request… I think I’m applying properly but I live in secret horror that I will be That Girl. You know the one.

Lately I’m hooked on NARS Lustre, looks so natural for every day.

I love ’em Neutrogenas! L’Oreal also makes nice blushes. And OMG, the Shu, the Shu! I got one of those and I adore it so much!

Hi Karen TGIF! Ok so I use the 135 as a blush brush and it’s really old. The bristles are in fact falling out of it and breaking off, so I think it’s time to get me a 129! Oh also I am really excited because yesterday I got my MAC stuff from the sale they had and they accidentally gave me “Media” lipstick for free! YAHOO!

I’m digging these videos! they are so fun.

I love my 129 also….but, weirdly, I don’t have any mac blushes. (and blush is my least represented makeup item!). I mostly use nars and cargo powder blushes, and I’ve really been gettin’ into gel and cream blushes-becca’s creams and tarte’s gels. 🙂

    Hi Jessica,

It’s nice to meet you! Girl, I’m right there with you with staying up to the wee hours… I’ve been having some serious sleeping trubs. Dark circles have set up shop on my face, LOL.

How are you liking your iPod Touch?

    Hi Lesley,

Awww, don’t you love those moments when the boys actually notice things like blush? I still remember the one time El Hub mentioned that he liked the blush I was wearing — it was Shu Uemura, LOL, and like, a year ago.

MAC blushes are great. 🙂 Which ones are you thinking about?

    Hi Stephie,

I vote for Amour! It’s so fantastic and looks really natural. Do you have Dolce Vita lipstick? Amour matches *perfectly*.

    Hi Shefali,

Oh yah, I *love* those Neutrogena blushes. Sunny Spice is another good color, too!

Regarding the matte finishes… I think they are a little less intimidating than the shimmer because they look the most natural. I remember being very scurred of having Homie the Clown cheeks when I started wearing blush and the MAC MUA saying that mattes gave the most natural cheek look.

Oh, and I’d be happy to do a bronzer vid. I did one a few weeks ago on the “E” method but I could whip up one with my Nars stick bronzer. 🙂

Cute vid 🙂 I’ve been using Stila’s rouge pot in Lotus. I actually found it at my local Marshalls for three bucks and change. I highly reccomend you check out a Marshalls if you’re ever by one. You can find some great deals.

omg! Your voice is so cute! I’m crazy for blushes. It’s my new year’s resolution not to buy anymore but…I think I already broke that resolution. Blush baby is one of my all time faves, but I’m moving on to NARS now (I got my eye on Sin)!

I bought BlushBaby over a year ago, when I first started reading your blog because you recommended it. Believe it or not it was the first blush I ever used … and now I can’t get enough!

It seriously took me years to realize that blush was something I could use and NOT look like a clown – so thanks for that!
