Giving Cheeks a Constellation Prize: Chanel Joues Contrastes Powder Blush in Star Dust

September 26th, 2012 by Karen 13 Comments

chanel start dust joues contraste blush review
Wearing the new Chanel Joeues Contraste Powder Blush in Star Dust on my cheeks

Can we all agree that stars are awesome? — how they twinkle, sparkle and glimmer like glitter in the sky, inspiring poems, songs and sonnets as they hold back the darkness for zillions of years, billions upon billions of them light years away, and every one a giant, sometimes larger than our sun.

Chanel’s new soft pink Joues Contraste Powder Blush in Star Dust ($43) is a little like that… I mean, it has the twinkling part down.

The one and only blush in the new Eclats du Soir de Chanel collection for holiday 2012, Star Dust’s microscopic flecks of multicolored gold, pink, purple and green glitter glimmer on cheeks (more so in person than in pics) like diamonds in the sky.

But Star Dust isn’t any old sparkly blush. It has just enough glitter and pigment to catch the light without going astronomical. Now, I wouldn’t wear it to a disco diva dance-off, because I don’t think it’s glittery enough for that (GURL, you don’t want to battle me when I’m doing the hustle!), but that’s fine by me. Most of the time when I’m out on the dance floor with Tabs and his entourage, I try not to take the spotlight away from you-know-who. 🙂

Wearable and able to last eight hours — seriously, neither the soft pink pigments nor the glitter flecks budge once I get ’em on my face — Star Dust is the kind of blush I reach for when I want to drop it like it’s…lukewarm. Or, when I want a soft, shimmery cheek to wear with cat or smokey eyes.

What else can you tell me about Star Dust?

  • My sweet spot is between 3-4 layers on my NC42 skin (for reference, my Chanel shade is Soft Honey).
  • The flecks of glitter are tiny, and I love that they don’t highlight my pores.
  • Easy to blend, so I don’t have to spend 10 or more minutes buffing out harsh edges.
  • I adore the fragrance… It’s like a big bouquet of roses.

Have you been scouring the heavens for a glittery pink blush to tastefully illuminate your cheeks all night long? If so, Star Dust has you covered. 🙂

MAKEUP AND BEAUTY BLOG RATING: A

At the movies last weekend…

Much as I love going to the movies (and I LOVE it), there really hasn’t been anything lately that I’ve wanted to see…

Okay, that’s not the real reason I haven’t gone to any movies lately. Mostly, I’ve just been hooked on Friday Night Lights. Netflix has every episode, and I’ve worked my way through the first three seasons (so something like 45 hours!) over the past two weeks (yes, I’m ashamed).

But this past weekend, El Hub and I finally did go to a movie. We went to see that new Jake Gyllenhaal flick, End of Watch.

The movie’s about two overachieving LA beat cops, partners, who work a pretty rough area for gang activity and deal with violent crimes on a regular basis. I wouldn’t call it a perfect movie or one that changed my life, but it was probably one of the best cop movies I’ve ever seen. The characters seemed so real to me, and I believed the relationship between the two main guys. I really felt like I knew them and their families by the end.

The script was written by the same guy who did Training Day, so if you liked that, you might like this one, too. It’s getting great reviews (84% on Rotten Tomatoes).

It’s also filmed in that found footage style (like Blair Witch, Cloverfield and Chronicle) which sometimes gets on my nerves, but I thought it was pretty well done here. I stopped noticing it after the first few minutes, so I think that means it was done well. It definitely made me feel like I was right there with the characters.

Oh, and the fact that the movie stars Jakey-poo doesn’t hurt, haha!

In other news, welcome to the hump! Have a happy Wednesday. 🙂

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

The first thing I thought when I looked at the pic and title (before I read the review) is how beautifully it highlights without drawing attention to the pores! Gorgeous!

This blush is amazing. I’m going to have to try it on! It might be too expensive to justify, but it is beautiful.

I am in love. This is the prettiest muted, dusty pink shade ever–and the shimmers really are very tasteful! Shimmery blush done right!!
