The New Hourglass Holiday 2012 Collection, Spaghetti Squash, and What I Do for Excitement on a Typical Thursday Night

October 25th, 2012 by Karen 23 Comments

hourglass holiday 2012

Tonight is all about experiments.

First, this spaghetti squash…

I’m thinking that after I cook and shred that bad boy, I’ll toss the “noodles” in olive oil, salt, pepper and so much damn parmesan cheese that I oughta be ashamed of myself. Say it with me — “More cheese, please.” 🙂

Second, some new noms from the Hourglass holiday 2012 collection: two luscious lippies that look creamy enough to put some meat on ya, a pitch black eye kohl, a brow pencil and a fire engine red lip liner and lipgloss (find the whole schebang now at sephora.com).

Hmm… How about a pin-up girl (so classic and timeless)? Maybe I’ll even throw on some crazy big false lashes to freak out El Hub. (“I just don’t understand. Why do you get so gussied up to sit around in sweats and watch Law and Order: SVU? It’s very confusing.”)

Dudes are so funny sometimes. 🙂

Hope you’re having a swell night. What are you up to?

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

I love spaghetti squash but I can’t cut the darn things open! Any tips? Maybe I need a band saw… LOL oh wait, that one says on the label you can cook it whole in the microwave if you poke it? geez that kind of scares me, I always have cut them in half, scraped the seeds and then put them cut side down on dinner plate with some water in the plate then covered with plastic wrap. Maybe I should just try it with the poking!

Stab it a few times with a big knife, then nuke it in the microwave for 8-10 minutes – voila, easy to cut! Make sure to grab it with a potholder or towel though – that thing will be hot!

You are a true hero! I have been suffering with squashes all fall, sure that I’m going to lop off a finger one of these days. Totally trying that tip tonight, thanks!

Ok next time I get one I’ll be trying this. Now I don’t have to wait to get one so someone with stronger hands can cut it for me!

I wannnnnttttttttttts..the Hourglass goodies..the squash..hmm..if someone chops it open for me, then yes please 😀 Like Bunny mentioned, chopping these things open is just impossible. I get something called a Kabocha (not sure of the spelling) here, and that’s so horrid to cut – I actually ask someone at the store to chop it up and put it in a packet for me 😐

I had spaghetti squash for dinner last night – I sauteed some onions & garlic, then added the squash. SO GOOD!

Spaghetti squash is amazing!!!! Tip : people are saying how tough it is to cut this bad boy in half. Try microwaving it for 2 minutes first (much easier to cut open) then put it face down in the oven for 40 minutes…… so tasty!!!!

Does he really say “gussied up?” If he does, that’s awesome. My hubby has early baby boomer parents and he picks up some of their sayings and sometimes I have to look at him and say, “Did you just say that or did the 65-year-old trapped in your body just say that?” Tee-hee!

Oh, and Hourglass…I *want* to love them, but was soured by an experience I had w/ one of their gloss sets (https://www.makeupandbeautyblog.com/product-reviews/have-you-seen-the-hourglass-extreme-sheen-holiday-set/). The brushes were frayed and the formula kind of, well…chunky. It was weird. I’m willing to give them another go since I must have just gotten a funky batch.

How’s the lip liner (performance/texture)? A girl can never have too many red lip liners! 😉

I only have one Hourglass lipstick, and it’s so moist, it crushes down in the tube every time i try to put it on. I appreciate moisture, but this is ridiculous. Anyone else have that issue??

Those lipsticks look SO awesome–so rich and pigmented and shiny!!! 😀 I also got the Arch Brow Sculpting Pencil and I cannot wait try it–I’ve been wanting to try a brow pencil with this similar triangular shape for a while now!

Wow, all these items you got look amazing. I’ve never tried Hourglass before but maybe soon this will change.
I found a great recipe online last year (wish I remembered where). Bake the whole squash in the oven for about an hour, until the knife goes in easily. Cut it in half, clean out the seeds, then get the squash out with the fork out into the bowl. Chop up a lot of garlic and parsley. Heat the pan, melt some butter, sautee garlic and parsley, add in the spaghetti squash, add Parmesan cheese, toss and it’s done. It is so so goo.

      Hi Tatyana,

That recipe sounds delicious! I don’t have any fresh herbs around at the moment, so maybe I’ll do it with dried herbs. Now I know what I’m having for dinner tonight, yay!

Oh, and if you ever need any Hourglass recs let me know. It’s one of my fave lines.

I love spaghetti squash, and really any type of squash, yum! It’s a terrific food for fall.

Sigh… I LOVE Hourglass Cosmetics but the prices really scare me! Especially at Sephora here, since it’s imported I think they add on so much more. 🙁 The brow pencil looks really cool though… I’ll have to save up.
