What’s the Word on the New MAC Perfectly Plush Advanced Brush Kit?

October 27th, 2012 by Karen 16 Comments

MAC Perfectly Plush Advanced Brush Kit

Pink Lady LeopardA lot of people don’t know this, but the bag that comes with MAC’s Perfectly Plush Advanced Brush Kit ($49.50) was patterned after the elusive pink lady leopard…

How cool is that? 🙂

But seriously, I can totally see one of the Pink Ladies from Grease working this kit in the powder room at the malt shop. It’s gotta be one of the best-looking MAC limited edition holiday brush sets I’ve ever seen.

Included with the bag: the 167 Bronzer Brush, the 168 Large Angled Contour Brush, the 239 Eye Shader Brush, the 217 Blending Brush and the 212 Flat Definer Brush.

Counting the bag, that works out to roughly $8.25 per piece.

Unfortunately, the kit has something else in common with fictitious big cats…

The bristles are so scratchy! — like leopard claws! They’re nowhere near as soft as my regular full-size MAC brushes.

Hrmpf! At least the face brushes seem okay, but those eye brushes are a total drag.

Sucks, too, because the set comes with two of my all-time favorite MAC brushes, the 239 and 217. Here, though, they’re both super scratchy, and the brush heads themselves also seem less dense than usual.

Oh, well. At least they look pretty in pictures, and maybe I’ll use ’em one day to decorate my woman cave…

I can it see now — the brushes sitting in a cute jar next to the Nutella in my mini-fridge a few feet away from a microwave and a velvet fainting couch, haha!

“Yes” to the lovely bag, which is zippered, easy to clean, and has a pouch and pocket for storage (stylish students could even use it for pens and pencils), but if you’re considering the kit as a way to get your paws on some soft brushes, I’d skip it and opt for MAC’s full-size versions instead.

PRICE: $49.50
AVAILABILITY: Available now at MAC counters, stores and maccosmetics.com
MAKEUP AND BEAUTY BLOG RATING: C+ (a drool-worthy bag with uninspiring brushes)

Karen

Oh, scratchy makeup brushes are a pet peeve of mine. I also hate the little cottony things that come with eyeshadow. Are you supposed to use that garbage to APPLY eyeshadow?

‘like leopard claws’ – they are just pretty looking useless things. Do review something else from this range. So far, I have not yet heard a single positive review about this range

That’s actually a really great price, it’s too bad that they are not worth it!

Damn, that’s too bad… Because these brushes look super cute! But I’ll stick to my full-size kit then.

I wanted these to be quality brushes SO badly, they’re so perfectly cute and I LOVE the freaking bag, I want the minty green set too but I guess I’m saving my money for something else! I love MAC brushes but they’re kits always seem to disappoint. :/

I was SO excited when I saw this brush set. I have been searching for a gift for a friend and this looked PERFECT. And then I read your post. Le sigh. The search continues.

Thanks for letting us know. I got the Sensual peach eye kit. So far the shadow duo is great, the dark brown liner is very nice, mascara OK; but the bag is too small. I would have loved it if that kit came with your bag!
