MAC Lavender Whip Cremesheen Lipstick and Ever So Rich Glass: This Purple Lip Combo Reigns

February 6th, 2009 by Karen 33 Comments

Lavender Whip lipstick and Ever So Rich gloss are two products that don’t reveal their true colors until they’ve been applied.

And in this case, like the Spice Girls sang way back, magic happens when the two become one.

Purple lipstick and gloss aren’t colors you see every day, so at first I was a little intimidated. But I found layering Ever So Rich on top of Lavender Whip creates a shiny mauve lip that looks natural and NOT scary at all.

Here’s one layer of Lavender Whip lipstick…

This lipstick by itself is a little too purple for me, yikes!

It becomes much more wearable after I add a layer of Ever So Rich. The gloss tones down the purple lipstick color and infuses it with a hint of pink.

The combo’s gonna be a nice alternative to a nude lip look when I don’t feel like wearing a beige or peach. I can’t wait to wear it with smokey gray eyes.

If you’re heading down to the counter to check out Creme Team and feeling adventurous, I hope you give it a try! 🙂

Obey the kitty

Even though Tabs is on my shizzlist right now I can’t help but marvel at what that cat does in his spare time. He joined this new group and now claims to be part of Chairman Meow’s feline revolution.

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

I am a similar skin tone to you Karen and so I’m excited to go give this lippie a try. I have to admit even though it dosen’t seem very wearable I’m somehow drawn to the colour becuase its so unusual.

I must obey the Siamese dictator…LOL
I must admit, I got Lavender Whip. After wearing it for a day I sure hope it looks good. Purple seems to be a color people love or hate on others. Maybe I’ll get Ever So Rich dispite it being on the expensive side.

    Dear Heart,
I will take the fifth amendment on those lippie colors. hahahahah
As far as Tabs goes, I have one word: Catnip. I went into the pet store one day to buy some for a friend’s cat. I said to the salesperson, “Why don’t they have humannip?” He said, “They do. It’s call “weed”. Girl, I was RFLMAO!!!!!!! Just don’t do like I did with my dog. One night, I put some of that Chinese cream called Tiger Balm on my aching back. The smell totally wigged my dog out. He jumped up and down from the bed all night until Dear Hubby got made and put him in the kitchen. And that made it all the worse, because then the dog “sang” all night. What we do for the love of our pets. But seriously, those lip colors are intriguing shades. Have you seen the lippie by Chanel called Lilac Sky. I think that it is similar? Well, have a great weekend. It looks like YadiQ and I will be revelling in the sunshine. Louise

I bought both these colors today! I have a similar skin tone to you (I’m a Swedish-Mexican mix), and I love the way the lavender pops against the gold in my complexion. And this duo is oddly versatile. You can just barely dab them on for an almost-tame, pinky look, or layer them for neon intensity if you’re going to the club. Just add mascara! There’s almost a pop-art sensibility to this look, and, anyway, it’s a nice change of pace.

Wow, the purple mixed with the gloss looks phenomenal on you! I agree, I think it would also be great with smoky grey eyes or even as a fun alternative to beige lips. Have a great weekend!

KAREN!! Thanks so much for posting this! I’m headed down to Nordies today to check out precisely these two items! We have similar coloring so it looks like I’m going to pick them up. They look great on you.

And guess what?! I PASSED MY TEST!!! One more to go…but I’m taking a break this week and chillaxin’ 🙂 Going to the movies, catching up on Tivo…totally mindless stuff. Thanks for your support and remembering every week that it was coming up. You’re awesome!

    Hi Louise Gray,

Ha! Isn’t it funny how pets act all crazy with certain smells? I wore this lotion for a week that smelled like almonds and Tabs wouldn’t get within two feet of me. He totally hated it!

I haven’t seen Lilac Sky! It sounds very intriguing, though. Is it as purple as Lavender Whip?

    Hi Loni,

I will have to try the trick of barely dabbing on the lipstick.

You know what I want to try next? This lip combo with some false lashes and light pinky/purple cheeks.

Anyhoo, did you end up picking up any other shades?

    Hi Tricia,

Hmm, I wish I could give you some recs on the hotel situation, but I’ve only stayed in one place in Fisherman’s Warf and that was just for a special occassion. If you want to stay near the museum then you’ll have to look for a hotel near Golden Gate Park, on the Inner Richmond district side (SF is broken up into neighborhoods).

Here’s a site that’s very helpful for planning: Yelp.

There’s reviews on hotels, restaurants, nightlife, etc. from folks that live and have visited SF.

You could get a car, but it can be very expensive to park here, so that’s a consideration. Public transpo is decent but on the weekends if you’re staying out near the park and want to go across town it can take FOREVER.

So I picked them up like 3 hours after you posted this at Nordies in downtown SF. I also got Shy Girl lipstick. I LOVE Lavender Whip!!! It’s so interesting how colors look so different on different skin tones! On me it doesn’t look anywhere near as lavender and “mod” looking as it does on you (which kinda disappoints me LOL!).

Hey Karen, I’ve been reading your blog for a few weeks and I love it! My first non-drugstore lip-gloss was Benefit’s The Gloss in Kiss Me, a purpley-fuschia color similar to Ever so Rich. I loved it and actually finished the bottle. I think you look great in these colors, they’re unique but not too over-the-top!
