New Sephora Exclusives From NARS and Make Up For Ever, One of Them in Technicolor and the Other Inspired by Eve

February 12th, 2013 by Karen 24 Comments

Make Up For Ever Technicolor Palette
The new Make Up For Ever Technicolor Palette ($45), available now exclusively at Sephora

Seriously, dude, I go to Petco so often that when I see the Friskies delivery guy there restocking the gravy display, he gives me the “What’s up?” nod in the cat food aisle.

Like we’re buds. Because we see each other so often. 🙂

In my town, one of the upsides of frequenting the local Petco on behalf of my famously demanding feline employer is that there’s a Sephora right next door.

I know! It’s makeup/cat lady heaven…

So whenever Tabs sends me on a gravy run, I try to swing by Sephora (but please don’t tell Tabs, because I don’t want to hear his speech about personal errands on company time, blah, blah, blah…).

Yesterday Miss Thang (Tabs) was running low on Science Diet, Gravy and Greenies, so after restocking at Petco, I wandered next door to the Sephora to quickly look around, and check if the new Hourglass Ambients had arrived yet (nope!).

It was weird… Most of the time when I visit Sephora, I usually see a few guys either trailing their girlfriends/wives or waiting up near the front of the store with their noses buried in their phones, but yesterday, they were everywhere! — wandering the aisles like lost cattle, most of them with blank looks on their faces.

That’s when I realized: Valentine’s Day. I think there was some present shopping going on there…

Most of the dudes, bless their hearts, looked completely clueless, too. I thought, “Let me help you!” LOL! But I was under a tight schedule and had to get back to the office to give Tabs his daily full-body shiatsu massage.

If I had been able to offer assistance, I would have steered the dudes toward the new $45 Technicolor palette from Make Up For Ever first, with its eight powder shadows, four of them brights and four of them neutrals.

My inner film buff likes the inspiration behind it — the era in cinema when movies were transitioning from black and white to color, circa the 1930s — while my practical side loves that MUFE included classic black, brown, beige and white shades to go with the electric yellow, green, blue and purple.

So flexible! Plus, it comes with a step-by-step tutorial and two eye brushes.

Next, I would’ve herded those dudes over to the NARS counter to point out the new $59 And God Created The Woman Set.

Hello, gaw-geous!

Awkward product names aside, the set comes with a six-pan palette of must-have NARS neutrals like Alhambra, Kalahari, Galapagos and Night Clubbing. It also comes with a 0.09-ounce travel-sized tube of NARS Pro-Prime Smudgeproof Eyeshadow Base and a diminutive #3 Eye Shader Brush.

Both the Technicolor palette and the (awkwardly named) And God Created The Woman Set are limited edition and exclusive to Sephora.

If I didn’t already have a good number of these shadows, I’d be dropping hints to El Hub. “Um, sweetie, can we stop by Sephora? There’s this new NARS palette I just want to look at…” 🙂

You know what would be really weird? If there was also a Petco store by the Sephora near you…

TWIST! Weird.

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

Aw, that is so sweet that you would have helped.

Both of those palettes are on my wishlist. 😀 Thanks for this post.

I am beginning to feel so old- I remember when that Sephora wasn’t even there! I did a total Snoopy Dance when they opened that up. When I worked @ the Nordstrom at Corte Madera I kept desperately hoping they would open a Sephora there so I could blow MORE $ on my lunch break.

Come to mommy, And God Created The Woman! One way or another I’ll lay my hands on this gorgeous thing!

It’s funny, but I was just thinking how El Hub will probably have a hard time topping what he gave you last Valentine’s Day. That cap is just epic (gotta say you’ve got a professional model there too)!

Jesus, that And God Created Woman palette is amazing. I’m loving that taupe-ish colour (Bellissima II?). For a non-eyeshadow wearer like me, it seems like the perfect versatile palette.

I actually kinda like the name “And God Created Woman”, though I’m not sure why. Your swatches are gorgeous, but seeing the palette size compared to the price scares me.

Both palettes are extremely attractive to me – Nars for the name and the neutrals, and MUFE for the brights and matte neutrals. Thinking I need them in my life….

There is an Ulta next to Sprouts which is bad enough. Like the Nars “Woman” palette .. may have to check that out.

They just put an Ulta in next door to our PetCo! I foresee more beauty purchases on runs to get Quincy his Timothy Complete chow and Whisker Lickins for Jiji.

Oh! I want the AGCW palette, but I just bought the Harmony palette at Nordy’s recently and I don’t know if I can justify getting this. Well, this is what I keep telling myself, but who am I kidding?!? :b (Remember my response to #9 Monday?)

Ahhhh I have both Naked palettes in addition to my already unreasonably and unnecessarily large collection of neutral shadows but how bad is it I’m about to buy that Nars palette online? I probably have 5 dupes for each shadow but the devil on my shoulder is saying, “But Deborah… you only have 1 of the 6 shadows in that palette.” EEK!

Isn’t Nars late to the copy Naked palette thing?

The NARS palette is definitely more my style but I like how fun the Technicolor palette is. Your first pic actually reminded me of when the kids used to lay out their sidewalk chalk on the driveway. 🙂

Both palettes look nice but I haven’t heard great things about the Technicolor palette. I like the name of the God Created palette. I’m thinking that some of the shades might be too deep for my fair skin but I’m going to check it out the next time I go to Sephora.

Oh and speaking of the Hourglass Ambients, my store did not have them out on display either but when I asked they looked in a bottom drawer and found them for me.

The MUFE palette is also available at the MUFE stores; that’s where I bought mine.

I’ve seen the bad online reviews of the palette, but I still find it a useful addition to my stash. I particularly love the dark brown and blue in the palette. The makeup artist there tried it on me over the white shadow pencil, and the colors really popped over it. I’ve also used it alone over the MUFE primer and, while the colors were softer, they were still colorful enough for the look I was going for that day.

I suppose it depends on how much getting bright, true-to-pan color matters. For me, the extra step of layering over a white or bright base isn’t a deal-killer, but I know it’s just a hassle and/or not worth it for others.

Both palettes are so cute but the pigmentation on the Nars are far off better.

Actually the name must be connected somehow to the synonym movie with Brigitte Bardot “Et dieu crea la femme” which is the exact translation in English for this palette, and probably an allusion to love 🙂 given that on this movie Roger Vadim and BB fell in love

    Hi KAren,

DO you think the quality of the eye shadow that are in palettes, are less good than those ones who are single eye shadow???
