Rhapsody in Blue with Clarins Wonder Blue Mascara

February 13th, 2009 by Karen 16 Comments

Remember last summer’s Teal Terror, aka Clarins Wonder Mint Mascara?

It was one of the best tinted mascaras I’d ever used, adding great volume, length, color AND separation.

Well, guess who’s at it again?

They say lightning never strikes the same place twice. I don’t know about that because Clarins’ latest tinted mascara sure shocked the heck out of me. Wonder Blue ($24) delivers an unmistakable denim blue tint to lashes, and, again, with great volume, length and separation.

Tinted mascaras tend to be more pomp than circumstance, rarely depositing much color at all. We saw it over and over again this past fall with a slew of disappointing plum-colored mascaras that basically looked black.

Not so with Wonder Blue. It delivers on the promise, adding a noticeable blue tint to lashes, but at the same time still looks kinda natural (as natural as blue lashes can look, LOL!).

Clarins Wonder Blue Mascara

Price: $24
Use: True blue lashes with thickness, length and great separation
Makeup and Beauty Blog Rating: A+

I still adore bright and bold Wonder Teal, but I think Wonder Blue may be a bit more flexible, working with wider range of looks in blue, gold, brown, beige or even purple.

Rhapsody in Blue Mascara!

Blue mascara makes me think of Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue. United Airlines used the tune in their commercials throughout the 1980s. I always wanted to learn how to play it on piano but never had the chops to pull it off, even though I played for years (mostly against my will). 🙂

What an amazing piece of music…

Wherever you are, I hope you’re staying dry! It’s pouring like crazy here in Nor Cal. The weather folks say it may even snow on nearby Mt. Tam. I guess spring will have to wait!

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

i nearly bought this one too! but blue doesn’t show up well on my very black lashes. but oh man, is it beautiful! i tried it and really like it.

however, wonder lash mascasra isn’t my favourite so that was the realy reason why i passed. the colour is so beautiful though.

    love Clarins srping 09!

Never too late to study it. I just started studying the first Brahms sonata which I’ve wanted to study for ages but was always scared of because of the double stops (I hate double stops).

I love pairing blue mascaras with brown shadows! I do find that most blue mascaras are lighter than I’d like, so I usually layer them or just put them on the tips over a black mascara!

Y’know, I don’t mind the wet or the gloom, it’s the cold that’s getting to me (with big apologies to all you readers/commenters in much colder climates, suffice to say that living in NorCal, one doesn’t develop a stellar cold weather wardrobe and many/most houses are insufficiently insulated)!

Happy Valentine’s Day! Hope you and El Hub are doing something wonderful!

    Hi Tricia C.,

Yes, it’s blue. If you look closely at the outer lashes you’ll see it — it’s very dark, unlike the bright teal of Wonder Mint.

    Hi Karen B.,

Girl… I dunno. It’s been years since I’ve played “seriously” so I’m out wayyy out of practice. Maybe I should just start with some scales. 🙂

Brahms is good sh*t. It’s tough, though!

    Hi Glosslizard,

It’s been super cold up on my side of the Bay too… I think it’s the wind. 🙂

El Hub and I are keeping it chill this year. We went to Thai food for V-day lunch and we’re heading out in a few for a movie date. How about you and the honey?

    Hi YadiQ,

Oh yah! I will have to try that — I think it would make brown eyes pop!

You know I’m on an endless concealer mission so I’ll have to try that one. I hope they have a shade for me. 🙂

It is fab. It’s one of my favourite pieces for violin and piano 🙂
