I’ll Take Two Coats of the New Milani Grandissimo Lashes and a Vanilla Scone, Please

March 15th, 2013 by Karen 25 Comments

Milani Grandissimo Lashes
Here I’m either wearing two coats of Milani Grandissimo ($5.49) on my upper and lower lashes or thinking, “Oh, what a majestic pegasus!”

“Um, yeah, could I please have a Grande Grandissimo Lash and one of those YUMMY-looking vanilla scones?”

Haha! Okay, you caught me. Part of the reason I like new Milani Grandissimo Lashes mascara is because it sounds like something I’d order at Starbucks instead of my regular grande soy chai latte (no foam, please). That, and I just like saying the name over and over again… Grandissimo. Grandissimo. Grandissimo.

Just launched for spring, Grandissimo and it’s oversized accompanying brush promise a false lash look with “incredible volume,” and all without smearing or clumps.

I’ve had my eyes peeled for a budget version of my favorite dramatic mascara du jour, Le Volume de Chanel, and I was hoping Grandissimo would be a good drugstore dupe.

Two coats of Grandissimo on the left, and my bare lashes on the right

I’ve been wearing it off and on now for a couple weeks, and so far, I’m feelin’ meh. I mean, yes, I think it’s a fine mascara in how it lengthens and lifts, and it hasn’t clumped or flaked (although it does smudge somewhat as the day wears on), but a replacement for falsies?

I think not.

If I could just slightly tweak the marketing message a bit, I might go with something like, “Get a natural lash look with oomph from two Grandissimo coats!” instead.

The price is still right, and that’s a big plus. Note to self: grab Grandissimo from a nearby drugstore if I ever forget my makeup bag at home (and can’t find Maybelline Full ‘N Soft Waterpoof).

PRICE: $5.49
AVAILABILITY: Available now at drugstores and also online

I feel ya…give me drama all the way! Even “voluminous” lashes are too natural for me. I’m still waiting on Milani to come up with a really great mascara formula. Their newest lipsticks look promising, and their blushes are wham-bam-thank-you-ma’am quality. Let’s extend that to the eyes now!

I’m very distracted by your hairdo, you look like a pretty ballerina Karen! And yeah, the mascara looks okay, but it’s not blowing me off my socks. Looking absolutely flawless though!

      Hi Sunny,

Thanks, lady. I dunno, maybe it’s the hair? I haven’t worn it up in a while.

Hope you had a nice Friday. Happy weekend!

Hmm. It’s looking great on you, but I feel I need EVEN more volume. I have such a hard time finding a good mascara!

I hear ya, Sonya. Have you tried Chanel Le Volume de Chanel? Or Too Faced Better Than False Lashes? Both are great for big drama.

It makes your lashes look very naturally pretty. No dramatic false lash effect whatsoever.

One thing about working out 2 to 3 times a day 6 times a week means I don’t get to play with makeup much (I oould get away with some to Muay Thai but can’t wear it to jiu jitsu) anymore. It’s great that Milani is improving their stuff. Their eyeliners and eye shadows are of pretty good quality. I don’t know if I’d buy this mascara, as I favor other drugstore mascaras and dept. store mascaras, but it looks like a decent one if I was in a pinch. I prefer Cover Girl LashBlast, Maybelline Full N’ Soft, Neutrogena Healthy Volume Waterproof, and Rimmel ScandalEyes for good drugstore mascaras.

      Hi Katherine,

Milani is quickly become one of my favorite drugstore lines. They have so many colors and generally great wear times, especially with their lipsticks.

Hope you had a nice Friday. What are you up to this weekend?

You have such pretty lashes naturally that really anything you put on them makes them look amazing! Meanwhile I’ve got a serious case of the stubbies going on here, PLUS all the lashes on my right eye have fallen out because of Rapidlash :/ grrrr….

Your lashes are amazingly LONG naturally… so I would LOVE to see this same test on someone like me who has blonde lashes that are not so thick or long naturally… Whenever you rave about a mascara I run to buy it and it falls flat for my short and stubbies!

LOL! I love the name, too, but agree that the look isn’t up to Go-Drag-Or-Go-Home standards, fo sho! I’ve been looking for a drugstore mascara that really amps up the drama and nothing I’ve tried has really oomphed them up enough for my liking. Going to red your Full n’ Soft post now! 🙂 Lots of love and happy Saturday to you!

There’s such a limited selection of good drugstore mascaras that don’t do animal testing. (You’re basically limited to anything from Prestige, Wet ‘n Wild, Milani, and Physician’s Formula, and PF is the only one with an okay formula but it’s pretty expensive for drugstore.) Glad too hear Milani’s got this one out, even if it doesn’t give super dramatic results. 🙂
