More Runway Than Everyday: The Six Cream Colour Shadows in MAC’s Limited Edition Fall ’13 Forecast/Eyes Palette Pull a Disappearing Act

April 10th, 2013 by Karen 19 Comments

Cue the lights! Music! Now Models, hit the runway! And you, vertically-challenged 30-something cat lady girl, hit the hallway! The show is about to begin!!

Straight off the catwalks of Paris and New York (and the hallways of Novato), beside the Fall ’13 Forecast/Lips palette (SO GOOD), comes MAC’s new $40 Fall ’13 Forecast/Eyes palette of six new Cream Colour Shadows in fashion-forward fall colors.

The moderately pigmented, easy-to-build colors in the pocket-sized palette range from rockstar Oil-Slick Black to admin assistant Oyster.

MAC Trend Forecast, Fall 2013: Eyes small

The first time I patted one of these thin, slightly sticky cream shadows on a bare lid, I purred, then oohed and ahed at how easy it was to blend with the other shades. Then I thought, “Now when I walk Tabs, I can pretend I’m walking a Marc Jacobs catwalk.”

BAM! Pop that hip! 🙂

Last weekend I wanted to see how these shadows would hold up over time, so I wore them on a Sephora run. By the time I got home and checked my makeup in the mirror about an hour later, I was shocked! — most of the shadow had already faded, and I saw creases in what remained.

The following day, I tried my usual tricks to get these shadows to last longer, like layering a primer beneath them and patting a powder shadow on top, but those only took the wear time up from one hour to about three.

Hmm… Practical? I think not. Maybe good for photo shoots and quick runway shows, or if you’re purposefully aiming for a creased, faded lid look with lots of shine.

PRICE: $40 for a 0.21-ounce palette with six Cream Colour Shadow shades
AVAILABILITY: Available now at MAC Pro stores and also online

Congratulations, friend! You did it. 🙂 You made it over the weekday hump.

We should celebrate…with sit-ups!

Kidding. I meant frozen yogurt. We should celebrate with frozen yogurt… It’s better.

In other news, is anyone else watching Scandal?

Here’s the gist of it: the gorgeous Kerry Washington plays a lawyer/crisis manager named Olivia Pope whom high-profile people hire for help when they have seemingly impossible problems to solve — problems that usually involve high stakes, affairs, gajillions of dollars, and stuff like that.

I watched the first episode on Netflix last night and thought it was pretty good. Not bad at all.

What are you up to tonight? Whatever it is, I hope you’re relaxing.

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

MAC’s eyeshadow palettes always seem to be bad to me! I don’t get it…I thought their eyeshadows were supposed to be good >_<

      Hi Minsooky,

Hmm, that’s too bad. They do have some great powder shadow palettes! Which ones have you tried?

      Hi Lisa,

I think I might be getting addicted to it too. 🙂 I want Olivia’s wardrobe!

Oh wow, this is strange. I know the Paint Pots have a decent formula, so why not just use that here? What are we supposed to do with cream shadows that last for 3 hours? 😉

These are a new formula — Cream Colour Shadows.

You won’t regret watching it. I have major envy for Olivia’s wardrobe. Stick with it, the plot will thicken:)

Me too! Although I know I could never wear so much beige/white/off white on a daily basis. All my clothes would be dirty in about 2 seconds. Oh, and covered in cat hair!!

What a disappointing wear time! I liked the colors better in the palette than in the swatches (they all seemed to have a bit too much black in them for my taste). At least the lip palette is a winner, right? 🙂

Yes! I just might have to take the palette with me next time I go on a trip. It’s that good. 🙂

Did you and El Hub decide on Kauai? I was just talking to a friend in CA and she had gone through Gualala recently and said she loved it (and it reminded her of Big Sur, cliff wise). Have you been? It’s not too far from you, right? Sorry, that has nothing to do with your vacation plans. I must be thinking of places in addition to Hawaii that I’d like to vacation. 🙂

I think we’re 99.9% sure that’s where we’re going to go next month. We just have to sit down and plan. I need a trip where all I do is absolutely nothing. You know what I mean? A pool, magazines, sunscreen.

Totally had to google Gualala. It’s north of me and within driving distance! It looks like a fun day trip. What did your friend do/see while she was there?

I hear you! Our big trip this year is Disney, which is the exact opposite of a relaxing vacation for me. I hope my boys appreciate this when they get older. HAHA!

I’ll have to ask her. She was traveling through for work and we always joke that I absolutely MUST go and work with her for her Northern California trips. She said I would like it in Gualala because I want to do a road trip from SF to LA and then fly to Hawaii. I love driving on winding roads, the ocean and cliffs so she said we’ll have to add a little leg to our “sales trip” and head north a bit. 🙂

I can imagine. Don’t they have some Disney resorts now that have stuff to do for the adults? Like spas for tired moms? LOL Are you going to the one in Orlando or LA?

You know that if/when you roll through Nor Cal we have a standing lunch date, right?

      Hi Miranda,

I just finished the second episode. I want Olivia’s wardrobe! Although in real life I couldn’t wear so much white/off-white. I’d be a hot mess. 🙂

What other shows do you watch?

Too bad these faded & creased. I already have EXTREMELY oily lids and hardly any primers work for me. I’m sure I would only get frustrated with this product lol.
