The Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Shadow Pencil in Mushroom: A Neutral Shadow With a Can-Can Kick

April 12th, 2013 by Karen 22 Comments

Urban Decay Mushroom 24/7 Glide-On Shadow Pencil in Mushroom
On my lids: the Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Shadow Pencil in Mushroom ($20)

There’s a fungus among us, ladies and gents. With Urban Decay’s new 24/7 Glide-On Shadow Pencil in Mushroom, you’ll be able to knock out neutral looks in a flash.

And not just any old neutral looks. Neutral looks with pizzaz! — as this waterproof, long-lasting gray eye shadow also shimmers.

Right now it’s driving my Blanche Deveraux side wild, but she was mightily concerned at first…

When I showed it to her, she feigned almost passing out, raising the back of a wrist to her forehead and steadying herself against one of the posts on the veranda outside (also known as the back deck). “Oh, dear,” she declared in her thick Southern drawl, “if you’re gonna wear another boring gray shadow, I’ll just die. JUST DIE!”

See, my Blanche Deveraux side believes that neutrals should only be worn when shopping for sensible shoes, filling out Excel spreadsheets and cleaning cat barf from the carpets (seriously, Tabs, couldn’t you have aimed for the tiles?). In her mind, why bother with a boring gray when there are so many sparklier shades out there (she said, while batting her lashes at a pair of French naval officers on shore leave)?

But then she took a closer look at the tip…

And totally changed her tune. She saw an intense, warm gray with a shiny, silvery pearl finish.

When I explained how the easy-to-blend formula lasts all day long when worn with or without a primer, she snatched the pencil from my paws, and before I could protest, applied it to her lids.

As far as neutrals go, Mushroom doesn’t just kick. It can-cans. It makes me think of a dainty pair of platinum and diamond Harry Winston earrings. 🙂

Understated, yes, but not the kind of understated it’s easy to ignore.

I love the powder shadow version of Mushroom, so I’m sure I’d get a lot of use out of this as well. I’ll have to add it to my wish list!

No worries. I have had to stick around close to home to oversee ramp construction, but the guy is telling me he’ll be done on Sunday, so starting next week I’m available whenever your schedule allows.

Oh nice. How’s the ramp construction going? Is Missy all freaked out with all the extra action going on?

It’s going really well. The top part of the ramp, the flat part is right outside the sliding glass door in the kitchen and is large enough to be like a small patio, room enough to put some plants, and will go down the side of the house. Just in time for me to be able to enjoy my backyard now that the weather is turning nice. Missy’s not crazy about the noise (neither am I) but she really likes the man doing the work. He’s a cat person, has two cats, Mary Ann and Ginger. He showed me pictures today on his cell. Ginger is an orange tabby and Mary Ann looks like a more svelte version of Tabs. Adorable!

That sounds really nice. How about some cat-friendly plants? Tabs loves to chomp on zinnia and catnip.

I love the names of the ramp guy’s cats! All he needs now are more cats to round out the crew: Gilligan, Professor, Skipper…

      Hi Chelsea,

Yup! I tried it both on bare lids and on primer and it was great on both. Happy Friday, btw. What are you up to this weekend?

Tomorrow I’m going for a long run, running errands (Trader Joe’s…we have no food in the house) and planning a trip, woo hoo! On Sunday I’m going to try to go hiking. It really depends on the pollen situation because my allergies have been out of control lately.

Hope your homework goes by quickly! I remember being in college and how Saturday was always homework day, le sigh.

I’m so sick of college! Four more classes after this until my MBA.

I haven’t worked too much on it yet – I have all day Monday to work on it, so I’m lacking motivation :p I worked out instead.

I’m obsessed with Mushroom. The eyeliner is my all time favorite Urban Decay protect. But I do also like the shadow stick.

Danielle, do you own both the liner and the Shadow pencil?

Are they exact duplicates, or is the Shadow pencil warmer and more brown (as it appears on my monitor)?

I like the Mushroom liner, but it’s a bit more silvery than my skin tone can handle. If the Shadow Pencil version is warmer, I’ll be all over it.

Just ordered this off the UD website and can’t wait. There are never enough taupe crayons and liners in the world to satisfy my addiction. I also just laid hands on the new UD Mushroom eyeliner and it’s the bomb diggety.
