How Cosmetically Curious Is Your Pet?

April 19th, 2013 by Karen 39 Comments

Does your cat hide your brushes? Have you caught your dog chomping on your compacts? Does your pet love beauty products just as much as you do?

With Tabs, where to start!? How about soothing massage? He likes having his cheeks brushed with my makeup brushes, with blush and bronzing brushes being his tools o’ choice.

He’ll also rub up against various bottles, jars and compacts, claiming them as his own. If it’s makeup-related and he thinks I’m into it, he’ll give it headbutts or rub up against it with his cheeks.

He seems particularly interested in Chanel and Dior. Whenever I leave a compact somewhere on the floor, he’ll plop down on top of it and take a nap. (Sometimes he’ll even stay still enough for me to place some on his back and take pics.)

And then there’s the matter of the disappearing makeup… I don’t know how Tabs does it, or whether he’s involved, but shiny things have a tendency to disappear when he’s around.

I think he hides them in a secret kitty stash (which I still haven’t found).

On a scale of 1 to 10, with one being totally uninterested and 10 being a full-on beauty-obsessed animal (haha), how would you rate your pet?

On a scale of 1-10 (10 being highest), how cosmetically curious is your pet?

Tabs clocks in at a solid 10!

Anything left on the counters in our house (makeup or not) ends up on the floor. Our girls are more interested in batting things around than napping on them. 🙂

Btw, has Tabs ever told you where he stashed your Shu eyelash curler? Naughty kitty!

one day while my brother and his year old German Shepard visited me at my parents house, his dog snuck into my room and grab a big bronzer brush off my desk and gently carried it away in his mouth. As I was busy chatting with everyone my dad noticed something in the dog’s mouth. He was being so sneaky about it. We were all too busy to even realize he had disappeared for a while. He did no damage to the $45 brush which I am thankful for. Everyone laughed and I thought it was super cute. I know, we are enabling him but he’s just so darn cute!

Too funny about Tabs! Other than an occasional sniff, my kitty ignores my cosmetics pretty much completely. Good thing, too. If I suspected he was stashing away my fancy lipsticks, I would be on the warpath! Seems to me the cats who want our attention are like kids who want attention- my kids were obsessed with keys, phones, whatever was taking my attention away. Our cat is the same with our laptop. When he was a kitten he’d even sprawl himself over the keyboard as if to say, “I am way cuter than this stupid flat thing that glows and clicks. Rub my tummy, now!”

LOL THAT LAST PIC!!! Too funny!

My female cats show more interest in makeup than Tango. Tango was a bit interested in my real hair brushes, but only my females come to inspect the process and occasionally paw the pieces around 🙂

cute poll!! when I lived at home our shiz tzu would lay on the bed and watch me put on my make up. I would sometimes put Chanel No.5 fragrance powder so she would smell like the princess she is. =) now, my yorkie sits in the sink and he too watches me get ready. He’s eaten a few brushes, eyeliner pencils and pierced primer tubes! he tries to snatch whatever make up i have with me… so i guess any pet of mine is a make up lover too!! 😉

Funny stuff! My yorkie poo likes to sniff parfum samples with me. Odd how long she can sniff them since dogs have such a strong sense of smell! She likes to sniff my lip gloss too. Sometimes I let her try some on haha. On another note she is fascinated by dental floss. She always tilts her head and looks at me like what is that stuff? Let me smell and taste!

My horses look pretty cute with lipstick kisses on their noses! Sky was scared of my Burt’s bees the other day. The sound of the lid popping off is scary stuff ya know? Haha

This is a great post! Both of m dogs really like makeup lol. They love to see all of my new purchases and try to sniff everything. They would probably eat my makeup if I left anything laying around.

Aaaah, those pics are just so awesome Karen! I currently have 6 cats and two dogs (we give shelter to some cats) and let me just say that kittens are obsessed with make-up brushes! They found an old kabuki brush somewhere (it wasn’t even mine, I think from the previous house owner) and they loooooved it so much! Now it’s lost somewhere, lol. My siamese used to really steal my make-up brushes, but he has the same thing with pens, hah! My male dog is always very interested in the make-up on my face. He knows exactly when I’m wearing something new because he takes a few deep sniffs near my face and mostly approves of it, lol!

What cute pics of you and Tabs! Mingus is a nature boy and could care less about makeup and girly things. Ella is a shoe girl. Nina is probably the most curious. If I leave out brushes or pencils she’ll paw at them and will sometimes try to take a bite out of something!

My hamster, Mister Frosty, will smell it and if it doesn’t smell edible, he’ll skip it. If it’s a coconut lipbalm, he might take a bite and be disappointed.

Jiji is quite curious! He’s always batting around my brushes and playing around with my stuff when I put my makeup on (he likes to sit on the bathroom counter while I do my face). He hid my MAC WonderWoman blush in his litter pan once (EW!). Also, my former kittycat Gomez (may he rest in peace) stole my angled brow brush and hid it in the linen closet once, and damaged it!

Quincy is not curious at all. He has some permanent white eyeliner fur though 🙂

My cats (I have one boy and one girl) are obsessed with the Sephora boxes when they arrive. They must inspect them and the contents. Then when I am done unpacking, they take turns napping in the Sephora box. I’ve caught my girl on the bathroom countertop and she has a particular affinity for wintergreen scented things. I’ve caught them both in the bathtub too. 🙂

My kitty has so many nice napping spots but it loves to climb onto my vanity and nap next to my makeup. It loves to brush up against and smell my mac lipsticks and it is always watching attentively when I apply my makeup. Sooooo cute. You look beautiful in these pictures as always! Tabs too! Lol. You must get these framed and hang them in your house! Or better yet, make it a portrait and put it in a place no one can miss it!

Thankfully my Reggie dog is a 1!
She used to sit at my feet when I stood at the mirror to my makeup in the mornings before school and just look up at me cutely.
But I’m grateful she’s not interested in any of my makeup because when she’s interested in things… she eats them!

I thought my dogs were the only ones who liked being pampered! My female loves her cheeks brushed with blush brushes and thinks the blow dryer is tons of fun. And both of my dogs always come running when I am applying lip balm. they each get a little swipe on their noses and they love licking it off.

      Hi Kim,

That’s so adorable! What kind of dogs do you have and what are their names? I’m a crazy cat lady, but I still love the pups. I grew up with dogs and like to think of Tabs as the most dog-like cat I know.

I have 2 medium sized mutts..no clue what their mixes are. My girl is piper and my little man is ferghal. Im sure ferg and tabs would get along great as he is the most cat like dog ever. He climbs all over furniture and licks his hand and wipes his nose just like a kitty. And when he goes to the dog sitter, he hangs with the cats all day.

My troublemaker Tito has this wierd habit of sticking his nose into and licking the top of any bottle/jar/jug that he finds – the more toxic the better. I can’t keep anything bad in the house, bc he’ll taste whatever he finds. Perfume seems a favorite at the moment. It think it’s just compulsive nosiness.

My cats like to lick my makeup brushes, but my dogs aren’t really interested in beauty products. I used to have a dog who hated perfume and would rub all over me or lick off lotion to try to get the scent to go away. Have you checked under your couch for the secret Tabs stash? I have found all kinds of missing objects under my couch.

My dog Mia Wallace is very interested in all things cosmetic. She particularly enjoys watching me every morning as I get ready for work (from her spot sitting on the bath mat!)

I wonder whether Chanel’s Rouge Noir would suit her, like it did her namesake 😉

Missy likes to lurk around in the morning when I’m applying my makeup. If she thinks I’m taking too long she starts pacing and meowing. It’s REALLY fun (not!) when she sneaks up behind me and jumps against my back when I’m wielding the mascara wand!

Oh, and I’m still convinced she is responsible for my missing NARS Orgasm gloss.

I’d give my dog an 8/10. She has chewed up a few mascaras/lip glosses I’ve left lying around. But her main thing is smelling like a maniac anytime I wear a new product whether it be powder, lipstick, whatever!

My cats love to check out my makeup case when I drag it out, but are particularly interested in cream blushes and any brushes. My dog is the laziest dog on earth, so if it isn’t edible, she’s not interested because it may involve moving off the sofa. My son says when he pets her, there’s puffs of dust.

LOVE the pics of you and Tabs!

I would say that my animals have a negative and clear opinion about cosmetics. My dog, Teddie,is a red Dachshund and he managed to open my overnight bag that was zipped closed and pull out a Chanel angled face brush, then chew on it. My two Siamese cats aren’t any better. I had some open Bare Escentual gold and silver shadows on my vanity and they jumped onto the counter, and proceeded to knock off as much makeup onto the floor as possible. Yay for shimmery carpet! Let’s just say that they aren’t allowed near my makeup anymore.

I can’t even tell you how many makeup sponges my 4 y/o Himalayan has stolen… she LOVES the pink Beauty Blender sponges. I don’t know where she hides them but I haven’t been able to find her stash either!
Her other favorite thing to do is stand on my vanity, meowing at me, sniffing my face and swatting at all my makeup while I get ready in the morning.
She loves watching my lipstick roll onto the floor, MAC especially.
