Making Waves This Summer: AG Hair Cosmetics Texture Spray Tousles Tresses and Brings Out the Beach Babe Waves I Crave

June 7th, 2013 by Karen 15 Comments

AG Hair Cosmetics Texture Spray
Beach waves, babe! AG Hair Cosmetics Texture Spray ($24)

Dear AG Hair Cosmetics Texture Spray,

Hi. You probably don’t know me, but I know you.

Wait — that made me sound like a stalker, didn’t it?

Sorry! 🙂 I assure you, I am not a stalker. I mean, I love you, and I’ve been thinking about you all week long, but I am not a stalker.

Really.

I just wanted to drop you a line to say, “thanks.”

Thanks to you, my hair’s been swell, and I really appreciate it.

We’re a regular power couple, you and I. With you by my side, my mane’s been caught up in a tide of tousled, beachy waves, curling, coiling and cresting ever-so awesomely.

Instead of feeling (and looking) like a land-locked lass who toils in front of a computer screen all day, I feel (and look) like a total surfer girl. Carefree with curls.

Like I said, thanks. You’re the best.

Sincerely,

Karen

Um…this stuff’s pretty great.

A lightweight, medium-hold aerosol styling spray designed for all hair types, it coaxes out waves, increases volume and shine, fights frizz and makes color last longer by protecting your hair from UVA and UVB rays.

Just spray on dry hair and scrunch. That’s it.

Scrunch, scrunch, scrunch…

AG Hair Cosmetics Texture Spray

I’ve tried a bunch of different styling sprays over the years to get that tousled, beachy hair I like, and this one’s cream of the crop.

A lot of these sprays leave me with Edward Scissorhands hair, but not this one. With this one I get stylish runway messy.

The lightweight spray doesn’t weigh down my hair, either. It leaves it soft with a beachy clean scent, which I like.

Other than the rather high $24 price, the biggest downside I see is how quickly I’ll go through the bottle. I’m noticing it already. I probably don’t need to use as much as I do, but I’m a product of the hair bear 1980s, when one would often go through an entire can of Aqua Net in a single day.

Not kidding.

I have to consciously control my trigger finger, using short, controlled bursts; otherwise, I’m apt to envelop myself in a cloud the size of Texas.

This is my first time trying an AG product, and it’s a win. They’re a Canadian hair care line coming soon to U.S. salons and Ulta stores. They don’t test on animals, don’t use parabens, and devote a portion of the proceeds from the sale of their products to the Women Leading Change Foundation, which helps build schools and provide scholarships for girls in Africa.

Win, win. Great product, great cause.

PRICE: $24
AVAILABILITY: Coming soon to U.S. salons and Ulta stores
MAKEUP AND BEAUTY BLOG RATING: A- (it is a little on the expensive side)

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

Hi, Karen! I immediately looked this up, after you tweeted about it. (or tweeted an instagram photo? I can’t remember.) I, too, was taken aback by the price. But I figured, with the forgiving return policies of beauty product carrying stores these days, I should give it a try. I have tried Organix’s sea salt spray, and I don’t think I scrunched enough; my hair just felt dirty. I have stick straight Asian hair, and I’m ready to give up on anything that tries to make my hair un-straight. :/ But Ulta is enticing me with bonus points that expire tomorrow. This will be added to my list. 🙂 I will trek it to Ulta in the name of trying beauty products! The oven weather, be damned! 😀

Have a lovely night! Hope the bay is warm, and not sweltering.

      Hi Camille,

I hope you can find it! It’s new so hopefully it’ll already be on shelves.

Have you ever tried Bumble & Bumble Surf Spray? That’s another one that’s very popular.

By the way, I am super jelly of your straight hair. I can’t even begin to tell you how many hours I spent in the ’90s trying to iron mine straight!

Oh, bananas. I forgot that you wrote it’s new. I looked it up online, so I may just order it and give it a shot. I’ll look for the Bumble and Bumble, tomorrow. 🙂 Thanks for the recommendation.

I’m jealous of your hair. I always wanted wavy or curly hair. My hair is flat and heavy, so I’ve always craved volume. I noticed that people (some men got some sexy hair! hahha) who straighten their wavy hair have some volume and body when they wear it straight. *sigh*

Try the Bumble & Bumble one out if you can. I like it, but I prefer the AG one just a tad bit more. It’s a little less crunchy and seems to do more de-frizzing. Bumble also has a new beachy wave shampoo and conditioner called “Surf” too, btw. I haven’t tried it yet, but I’ve heard good things.

Funny how we always want the opposite of what we have, huh? I like having wavy hair now, but it took a long time to get there. Back in the early ’90s I used an iron — like the kind you use on clothes! — to get my hair straight. Yeah… it’s a miracle I didn’t burn my hair off.

Anywho, since you want volume there’s a bunch of different things you can try, like root lifters, dry shampoos, etc., in addition to the spray! You have lots of choices.

I was also going to say that the Bumble and Bumble is a good option, but best if you’re going to blow dry. Otherwise, as you say, it can be a bit crunchy. 🙂

Thanks for the review, Karen. Love your beach waves! I’ve recently bought Alterna’s Bamboo Beach Summer Waves spray. Have you tried that one?

Its non greasy texture and absence of salt makes it quite popular in Canada. I had a chance to use it a long time back. Didn’t have an idea that its going to be available her in a few days. Its worth giving a shot.

Your hair looks amazing! My hair is super straight so I have to use heat to get wavy/curly hair and I just don’t have time to always do it!

I love that look on you, I don’t think it would work for me cause when I let my hair air dry it just becomes a complete mess, puffy and uneven and every strand is waving in a different direction.

Oh God! The days of Aqua Net. You should see my school picture from 1986. It’s beyond embarrassing. Back in the day, Knott’s Berry Farm had a hair height restriction. Seriously! My cousin and I spent a lot of summer nights there. You had to enter the park with sad, flat hair. Then all the girls would run to the bathrooms with smuggled hairspray and combs. We would rat our hair to high heaven hahaha!!! Such a ridiculous rule.

I am definitely going to try this. I love AG products. Another product from this line that gives fabulous beachy waves is AG Beach Bomb. This is a cream consistency and you apply it to wet hair and let air dry or diffuse. Its gives loose sexy beachy waves and does not leave your hair crunchy. It’s a winner. Wow, I wonder how the two of these together would be??

If you want volume and texture without the crunchy and weighed down hair, use the Shielo Volume HairSpray. My hair still looks clean and healthy while still has all this fullness. It also has an amazing smell!
