Um…it’s really hot up here in Redding. Like, today the high was about 106 degrees, and everyone kept saying, “At least it wasn’t too hot today.”
Because it seems that way when the forecast for tomorrow calls for 113.
At least it’s a dry heat. 🙂
I went for a run outside around the neighborhood this morning at around 10 a.m., and it felt like I was being microwaved (it was already 90-something by 10).
Even the wind — not helpful — like being blasted by a giant dryer.
I’m trying to take advantage/make the most of the dry air to test a few moisturizing products, like a bottle of Clark’s Botanical Cellular Lifting Moisture Mist ($45 for a 3.4-ounce spray bottle), which I’ve been carrying around all day.
It’s a moisturizing mist made with Swiss apple stems and algae (also good for soothing sunburns). You can spray it on bare skin or atop makeup, and it dries to a matte finish.
I love the light apple scent, and it really does seem to add some much-needed moisture to my thirsty cheeks.
Also, after my shower this morning I used Orico London’s Superico Omega Rich Body Oil ($40 for a 3.4-ounce bottle), a hydrating body oil with a blend of sunflower seed, rosehip, flaxseed and bergamot oils, and Vitamin E. It has a light, relaxing sandalwood scent, and the formula doesn’t feel sticky or heavy.
Oh, yeah — about the heat again, I noticed this morning on my run that the sun seems REALLY bright out here, like the earth is closer to the sun or something than it is in the Bay Area.
I don’t know…
I feel like I’ve been squinting all day long, and the skin around my eyes needs some TLC.

I can’t believe how hot the rest of the US is and Florida weather has been so mild this summer. We’ve barely hit 90F! Stay cool and keep pampering!

I lived in the Bay Area for 20 years (now Florida) and I know what you mean about the sharper, hotter sun in Northern California. I can recall going to Sonoma and having it seem like a completely different angle to the sun–a scorching one, like desert heat.
Checking out that body oil–sounds like just the thing for my Florida skin, which even in summer is both dry and sweaty. Ugh!
Oh, my. I remember running in Vegas one morning when I was there for work (years ago). I only did that once! Agreed that the wind only acts like a blow drier. 🙂
The weather has been a bit odd, here. We’ve had weeks of temps in the 90s with very high humidity. Then, 2 days ago, it suddenly dropped to the high 60s/low 70s. Very strange.
And, I hear you on the brightness of the sun. It makes my eyes hurt, which drains all the energy from me. I think you should definitely pop on some eye pads and take a 30 minute break. You know… to be sure you’ve given the product a fair shake. 🙂
We got a little heat wave going on here too, but I love it! Even up on the mountain we are reaching 30 degrees Celsius and more, aaaaah 🙂
Eek, Redding. I usually comfort myself when it’s over 100 here in Sac by remembering that it’s worse in Redding, LOL!!
I think the sun is more intense in Redding than the Bay Area–could be partially the difference in elevation and part that bone-dry quality of the air: no morning/evening marine layer to soften the edges of OMGALLTHESUNSHINE.
Good for tanning by Lake Shasta, though, as long as you are liberal with the sunscreen.

I hate HATE it when people say, “At least it’s a dry heat.” Dude, shut up, it’s fricken 110+! I’d take the valley weather, any day. Yes, it’s still hot in the valley, but at least it cools down (less than 80 degrees) during the night. This desert heat is not cool. (Can you sense my love for Vegas?)
How much longer are you visiting Redding? I get to go home soon! I miss Nor*Cal. I am already planning my city visits: all over the bay, Modesto (for a hair cut!), Sacramento, Yuba City. 🙂

I’m cheap, so I use cooled teabags on my eyes for relief. 😉 All for a spritz of thermal water on the back of your neck is heaven in this heat.
BTW, you should totally buy that visor and make us fight over it as a giveaway!
I love that visor! It has rained everyday for months here in Tampa and surprisingly it hasn’t been too hot. The sunshine state is cloudy! I’m going to look for those eye pads. Hope you enjoy your trip!
