Do You Ever Make/Bake/Mix Your Own Homemade Beauty Products?

August 20th, 2013 by Karen 14 Comments

Homemade beauty products?

I do and I really enjoy it!

Mostly pretty simple things, like homemade sugar scrubs and yogurt face masks, but I’d like to go bigger one of these days and learn how to make things like homemade soaps and body butters.

How about you? Are you culinarily inclined with your cosmetics? Do you ever make/bake/mix your own homemade beauty products?

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

I was on a kick for awhile where I would make my own face and lip scrubs. After some time, it just got to be messy and time consuming. Now I just use Burt’s Bees Citrus Face scrub and e.l.f. lip exfoliator. Super inexpensive and work great with no hassle.

I haven’t “gone big” but I’m using a makeup remover I mixed up and I like to think that every time I make/bake/mix something to eat it’s part of my beauty results…good or bad!

Here’s a question for ya… do you ever make/bake/mix something for Tabs?

I’ve done homemade sugar lip scrubs, coffee ground face scrubs and cucumber papaya face masks. They’re inexpensive and all natural.

I make my own facial mist using rose water, orange blossom water, aloe vera, witch hazel, and chamomile. It’s refreshing and soothing.

I love the idea of DIY beauty products, but I don’t trust myself enough with it to actually do it. I have sensitive skin and I am afraid I might do something wrong.

Definitely! I’m a big DIY buff. I recently made a vanilla lip scrub and honey yogurt mask.

I’ve done the sugar lip scrub and DIY brush cleaner (thank you Koren!)…other than that, I’ve never gone big.

Although, I have wanted to try the avocado hair masks! Does that count as going big? 😀

I make my own makeup remover by mixing water with a tiny bit of extra virgin olive oil. I love it because it doesn’t sting my face like most makeup wipes and it’s not drying.

Are you kidding? I make my own oil cleanser, body butter (still being perfected), and sunblock. I’m especially proud of the sunblock. It’s ultra-high SPF (2.25 oz total sunblock minerals in 12 oz of fat base) and when powdered doubles as an all-over concealer on my my-god-do-you-know-what-the-sun-is-and-do-you-drink-blood complexion.

Not really, but I keep a little bottle of olive oil and a jar of coconut oil next to my bed to use as cuticle oil and foot cream, and it works amazing.

I also have little evening primrose oil supplement gelcaps that I pop open and use to moisturize treat.

I just started making some of my own beauty products (to help me afford the ones I want to buy). My homemade lip balm was too oily and not very moisturizing the first time around. I also made a lip scrub that tasted fantastic but was too oily. I mixed the two products together to make a more moisturizing scrub–better but still needs work.
