Christmas Comes Early in California With the New NARS Loves Los Angeles Gift Set

August 26th, 2013 by Karen 23 Comments

NARS Loves Los Angeles
It’s true! — NARS Loves Los Angeles. They even made a new set named after the city, and it arrives on select counters September 1.

Please tell me I’m not the one of us who has imaginary conversations with her makeup, ’cause I can hear my tinted moisturizer practically scream with joy whenever I take out the new limited edition NARS Loves Los Angeles Gift Set ($75).

NARS Loves Los Angeles
The three-piece set, clockwise from the left: Trouville Nail Polish (a creamy seashell pink), Eye and Cheek palette, and Turkish Delight Lip Gloss (a sheer pink)

When I hold one of the three pieces up to my ear like a conch, instead of the sound of the sea, I hear a voice say, “Guuuurl, YES. NARS is a frickin’ genius! You’ve need something like this for all those LA rooftop pool parties you never go to, when you only have, like, five minutes to do your makeup. Now all we need is that maxi dress and those Tory Burch knockoff slippers we saw the other day, and we’ll be good to go. Hurry up! Time’s a-waistin’!”

NARS Loves Los Angeles
A look inside the Eye and Cheek Palette…

This is what happens when you spend hours talking to a cat and your makeup collection every day…

NARS Loves Los Angeles
Products clockwise from the pink pan on the left: Deep Throat Blush, Abyssinia Single Eye Shadow, Etrusque Single Eyeshadow, Laguna Bronzing Powder, Bali Eyeshadow and Outremer Eyeshadow

Anyhizzle, the new $75 three-piece limited edition gift set is coming to select NARS counters September 1, with a palette containing four eyeshadows, a powder blush and a bronzer; a full-size lipgloss and a nail polish — all in some of the brand’s bestselling shades in Los Angeles.

NARS Loves Los Angeles
Turkish Delight Lip Gloss and Trouville Nail Polish

For starters, the NARS effect. With the sleek eye and cheek palette in my paw, I feel like I could get into a shouting match with one of the Real Housewives and totally win.

NARS Loves Los Angeles Swatches
Swatches from the left: Deep Throat Blush (a sheer peach), Laguna Bronzing Powder (a shimmery golden brown), Abyssinia Eyeshadow (a shimmery beige), Etrusque Eyeshadow (a shimmery gold), Outremer Eyeshadow (a matte blue), Bali Eyeshadow (a matte neutral brown) and Turkish Delight Lip Gloss (a sheer pink)

The sheerness of the set’s shadows, bronzer, blush, gloss and polish keep it completely free of any fussiness. These are colors I’d wear with tinted moisturizer, mascara and a brow filler (and with beachy waves in my hair). A polished, chic California girl cruising down the P.C.H. on her way to brunch by the beach.

3 ways to work (LOL! I almost typed “twerk.”) the new NARS Loves Los Angeles Gift Set…

  • Weekend warrior: When I have errands to run on a Saturday or Sunday morning and only want to wear minimal makeup to rush out the door, I’ll fill in my brows, curl my lashes, dab tinted moisturizer on my cheeks and nose, sweep two layers of sheer peach Deep Throat blush on my cheeks, and treat my lips to a layer of Turkish Delight (very MLBB). And when I know I’m going to be a while, I’ll toss the gloss in my purse for touch-ups every couple hours, as its wear time is pretty limited.
  • Brunch or lunch: Whatever we have, if it’s the weekend, there better be 1) mimosas and 2) contouring/highlighting involved. 🙂 I’ll start with the same look above, but build on it by contouring below my cheeks with Laguna bronzer, and highlighting my upper cheekbones with a bit of Abyssinia. To brighten my eyes, I’ll pat either the pearl beige Abyssinia or shimmery gold Etrusque on my lids, and blend Laguna into my crease for definition. Since the shadows and bronzer are also quite sheer, the whole look is quick and easy.
  • A great date: I like to draw attention to my eyes on date nights by blending either the matte neutral brown Bali or bright blue Outremer on my lids and along my lash lines for a soft, sheer smokey eye.

NARS Loves Los Angeles
Deep Throat Blush and Laguna Bronzing Powder on my cheeks, Abyssinia and Etrusque Eyeshadows on my lids, Bali and Outremer Eyeshadows on my lower lash lines, Turkish Delight Lip Gloss on my lips and Trouville Nail Polish on my claws (two coats)

NARS Loves Los Angeles
LA, baby!

Now, I don’t really see this lovely little set of NARS essentials driving hardcore makeup fiends wild, but I do see it appealing to girls/guys who like softly defined eyes, lips, cheeks and nails.

I also think it could be a great set to either give or receive.

PRICE: $75
AVAILABILITY: It’s coming September 1 online at narscosmetics.com and to select Southern California NARS counters at Barney’s Beverly Hills, Nordstrom (the Topanga, Clendate, Westside, Farmers’ Market, Santa Anita and Santa Monica stores), and the Saks Fifth Avenue in Beverly Hills. If you’re interested, give one of the stores a call, and see if they’ll let you place an order.

I’m on the East Coast, but I want this so badly (I’ve even told dear hubby it is the only thing I really “want” for my bday in September). Now I think I may, um NEED it. NEED IT NOW :o) Any word if it will appear on the NARS site like I Love NY?

      Hi Tawni,

Yes! Do you wear blue shadow often?

Well… no, but I would this bad boy! I’ve been eyeing that matte blue NARS shade for a while now! I think I tend to wear more blue eyeliner, like NYX Liner and Smudger pot in their lovely blue shade.

I actually have this gloss from my Shiseido Corporate days. I love it! It’s super sheer so while it looks PINK in the tube, it goes on much more subtle.

I’m not sure about the blues… I’m in NYC so I think for California, this is great but I can’t see the everyday woman in NYC wearing so much color but this looks phenomenal on YOU!

      Hi The Beauty Glow,

Great thing about the blue is it’s pretty sheer. It’s easy to blend into other shades, so it’s not so blue.

This makes me sound crazy… but I think I’ll give this a miss. I’m not a gloss or nail polish fan, and I have shades similar to the eyeshadow palette. If someone were to *give* it to me though, I wouldn’t mind, LOL!

Nice gift set! I love Nars and own all of these except for the Bali and Abyssinia eye shadows. I don’t think I own this polish either but Nars Orgasm nail polish is one of my favorites.
