Are You Dressing Up for Halloween?

October 25th, 2013 by Karen 30 Comments

A MAC-obsessed fall fairy, Oct. 2013

I think the fall fairy has potential, especially if I can make that blasted elf ear work, but truth be told, it’s not as comfy as last year’s crazy cat lady look. I mean…it’s hard to beat pajamas and a robe. And you know I’m all about the comfort. 🙂

Hmm… I wonder what I could do to really freak out my neighbors. That’s the end game, really. 🙂

The fall fairy has the big hair and the leaves and the muddy skin — that’s pretty freaky. I’m trying to picture myself like that handing out candy.

OMG, that frickin’ elf ear… First, it was too light toned, and then I couldn’t get it to stay put, and then I couldn’t keep it out of my hair, and then…gah! I gave up.

Right now it’s a tossup between fall fairy and crazy cat lady.

How about you? Are you dressing up for Halloween this year? Maybe we can brainstorm ideas. Lemme know what you’re thinking in the comments.

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

SERIOUSLY the most comfy costume ever! It is the only time I accept pajamas worn in public.

Haha I love the faerie costume! I’ve already dressed up as a mermaid for one party. I’ll probably at least do a Cleopatra makeup look. I’m not sure what other costume I’ll do.

Your Katy Perry is so cute 🙂

I AM SOOO dressing up. I love love love your crazy cat lady costume and may steal it for next year LOL. I think all your looks were really great. the mac artist was really good and I think the fall fairy is sexy.

THis year I’m wearing an 1800’s inspired polanaise set (yes, complete with the big ass bustle pillow)ROFLMAO and victorian granny boots. I embellished an old hat with a sheer black scarf and feathers. Too bad I’m a procrastinator and didn’t get the black lace parasol in time.
My husband has the matching men’s outfit and a Marshall badge. CHeck out some of the clothing at recollections.com. They also have steampunk styles. they are very expensive but also good for inspiration? We got our costumes many years ago when money was a little more plentiful. Thank goodness the party this year is with totally different people. Yea! like new costumes! haha

I’m not sure what I’m going to dress up for at work next thursday. I have a crow ensemble, a long black curly wig and fangs, fly, punk cat accessories, everything a witch could possibly need, oh the choices are endless – I’ll just have to see how I feel. MMMWWAAAAHAHAHAHAHA!

      Hi Majick,

Feel free to steal any of these costumes! If you end up dressing up as a CCL you’ll have to send me a pic. 🙂

Your costume for the party sounds fun; thank you for the site recommendation, too. I’m always looking for more inspiration.

As for Thursday, I vote you go with the punk cat. 🙂 Which one are you leaning toward right now?

Oh, I love the fairy – but agree that it’ll be pretty high maintenance. One of my friends was Flo from Progressive a few years ago and it was adorable (and easy/comfy). That wouldn’t freak out your neighbors, though. How about Carrie? Fun with fake blood/prom dress! 🙂

THe fall fairy looks high maintenance, but fun… LOVE the cat lady!

I love dressing up for Halloween! And it’s more fun since I usually do facepainting at a local library in the afternoon before I rush home to hand out stuff to the kidlets (This year NO CANDY — glowsticks and rub-on tattoos)

This year I’m dressing up as an alien teenager…. I have a t-shirt with Kepler 34b (a planet around a pair of stars that my hubby helped discover) and I’m going to add the words: My parents went to Kepler 34b and I all I got was this shirt!…. Blue light-up wig, lavender skintone, hot pink eyeshadow and lipstick, tons of dark blue eyeliner and false lashes. The piece de resistance will be the glow-in-the dark facial tattoos (Berber-style with glow-in-the dark glitter powder)…also the eyeshadow and lipstick are black-light reactive and we’ll put a black light on the porch… too much fun!

I’m doing my own spin on the party look Katniss wears in Catching Fire this year. Last year, I did Arena Katniss and I thought I would just follow my little trend and do a party look. I’m doing a masquerade mask out of makeup, so it’s one labor intensive look. I also bought (well, Mom bought me) this really neat black faux leather cutout dress (it has a black slip underneath) that is so cool from Carson’s for me.

Next year I may actually get off my Hunger Games train. It’s hard to get off of it when your nickname looks like Kat (which could be a nickname for Katniss), you sort of look like Katniss and you kind of have the attitude. It’s very, very, VERY hard.

If you decide to ditch the fairy, you could get a few more stuffed cats, let some mascara run, frizz the curlers, and go as a Crazier Cat Lady. 😀 Just make sure to carry around a Whiskas pouch with a spoon in it. (Share with Tabs.)

If my (CENSORED) asthma calms down enough before tomorrow, I’m going to an Alice in Wonderland-themed party as La Reina de Corazones, aka a Dia de los Muertos version of the Queen of Hearts, complete with strong hints towards Aztec sacrifice. (Those hearts didn’t come from a deck of cards, and that’s not paint on the roses. Well, technically it is, but I’m not getting life in prison for the sake of realism.)

Otherwise, I’m just going to track down a red T-shirt with black stripes, dress a friend in orange with some black duct-tape stripes and some felt ears, and we’re going out on the night of as Calvin and Hobbes.

Yes! I’m going as a goth teen, which I was never allowed to indulge in during my actual teen years, as my mom would’ve killed me. I will be rocking black lipstick all night and letting everyone know “this isn’t a phase, this is who i really am!!!!”

This year my friend and I are dressing up as witches, kind of generic, I know, but I found a really pretty purple witch hat at the thrift store. It has feathers and netting with spiders in it. So I’m kind of going with the purple theme and found purple lashes, purple tights with black fishnets over them, and a purple dress. Last year I dressed up as a cat which is always easy, just get the tail and ears set from wal-mart, and paint whiskers and a nose on your face, with an elaborate cat-eye of course!

I’m totally biased (owning three of my own) but I do love the crazy cat lady look, although if you asked my partner, he wouldn’t think it would be too far from the norm 😉
My favourite would have to be the fall fairy, it’s so pretty! Personally, I think you would rock it with a slightly darker (berry?) lip. I had an Alice in wonderland themes hen night last night and I went as the Cheshire Cat!

I love your costumes!! The fall fairy is gorgeous 🙂 I loooove Halloween and will always dress up every year, for as long as I can dress myself! This year, I have already been Wednesday Addams (lazy costume, pulled it out of my closet- but it worked) and Daenerys Targaryen (also a last-minute one, I weirdly had all the elements for it sitting around my room- including blonde wig and little dragon stuffed animal!) I still have about 2 parties left to go to, and of course passing out candy on actual Halloween. I think I might repeat the Khaleesi costume and then be a mermaid for the next parties, and for something more kid-friendly, I’ll just be a ghost or something 🙂
