The New Too Faced Chocolate Bar Eye Palette: A Sweet-Smelling Set of 16 Neutrals for Spring 2014

November 26th, 2013 by Karen 45 Comments

Too Faced Chocolate Bar
Wearing the new Too Faced Chocolate Bar Palette (and sneaking a bite of something sweet)

Honestly, the folks at Too Faced Cosmetics really, REALLY should’ve put a warning label on their new Chocolate Bar Eye Palette ($49) (“Do not bite!”), because among their fans, it would have saved the chocolate lovers gazillions of dollars in dental repair bills.

Even before and after pics on the box would have been helpful (this is Karen before biting the palette, and this is Karen after).

For instance, for the before picture, they could have used something like this pic of a smiling cat lady just chillin’ with the cute chocolate-bar shaped case moments before she opened it…

Too Faced Chocolate Bar Palette
Oh, hello! I’m just holding a chocolate bar.

Then, for the after pic, they could have used something like this to illustrate what happened moments after that same cat lady opened the tin for the first time and caught a whiff of the scented eyeshadows inside it.

Too Faced Chocolate Bar Palette
OM NOM NOM!

OMG! All 16 powder eyeshadows smell EXACTLY LIKE CHOCOLATE…which I guess makes sense, seeing as how they’re all made with cocoa powder, which is supposed to help protect and smooth your skin.

Too Faced Chocolate Bar Palette
Sugar-free

Man, I was hella hungry this afternoon, too, and after that first sniff of cocoa deliciousness I scoured the house for anything chocolate (found a can of chocolate-covered macadamia nuts, score!). I bit down on the edge of the tin like I was one of the bad children from Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory (I’d want to be Veruca Salt, of course). So, yeah. Watch out for your teeth.

Too Faced Chocolate Bar packaging

This Chocolate Bar is a brand-spankin’-new eye palette for spring 2014, and technically, it’s not available yet, but you can put in a request to be emailed when it’s available. I’ve yet to hear word on the official release date, but I’m guessing it’ll be soon (probably within the next two weeks).

“Too Faced Co-founder and Creative Director Jerrod Blandino learned of the healing properties of cocoa while getting a chocolate facial in Maui. With Chocolate Bar he created a first-of-its-kind palette that combines the healing benefits of chocolate with richly pigmented, velvety smooth shadows. Chocolate has been used for centuries for its soothing properties and to protect, condition, and heal skin that has been damaged by sun and wind. Studies have shown that the scent of cocoa powder can increase memory and brain power.”

Too Faced Chocolate Bar Palette
Chocoholic says what now?!

Hello, neutrals! The palette houses a mix of matte and shimmery browns, beiges, pinks, peaches, golds and plums, and they all have yummy-sounding names like Triple Fudge and Salted Caramel.

Too Faced Chocolate Bar Palette
Yummy!

I just started nibbling on the palette today, but so far, I’m really enjoying the colors and textures.

Too Faced Chocolate Bar Palette

With the exception of Milk Chocolate and Strawberry Bon Bon (which are both unfortunately sheer and feel harder-packed than the other shades), I like mixing the different neutrals together. They all seem to complement each other well.

It’s nice that there are a couple of fun shades in there, too, like the shimmery purple and shimmery khaki. Just to spice things up.

Overall, the palette makes total sense to me, and I can already think of at least a half a dozen different ways to wear it.

Blending out every harsh line was easy when I did this golden brown smokey eye today, thanks to the bunny tail softness of the powders, and I didn’t have any issues with fallout — a nice surprise! — because I usually do notice a little with Too Faced shadows.

Not here, though. Not at all. The brown and gold shadows I worked with today didn’t leave anything behind.

I plan to spend more time with the palette and wear it in some looks, but tentatively, I’m thinking A- (Milk Chocolate and Strawberry Bon Bon aren’t my faves). I’ve been really into neutral eye looks lately and can see myself wearing these colors a lot. Plus, they smell delicious. And I won’t have to burn off the calories. 🙂

PRICE: $49

I love the color selection, and the shadows look fabulous on you! I’m pretty excited about this, and see that Sephora’s already put it on their website, though it’s not yet in stock.

Love the colors, especially Candied Violet (I’m not even a big fan of purple). I have to wait until the palette hit stores to swatch first though.

The shades on the left hand side resemble Tabs’s Cardboard palette ;). Lovely neutrals!

And thanks for prompting serious midnight chocolate cravings! Trader Joe’s used to have these delish hazelnut chocolate bars (usually near the checkout counters), seems like they’ve been discontinued :(.

On a completely unrelated note, what’s your all time favorite mascara?

    Meows to you and Tabs!

Very cute but the scent concerns me. Does it linger? I had to toss my choclate bronzer becuase I could not handle the smell becuase it never went away.

Call me crazy, but I am not too excited over this palette. I really dislike the smell of chocolate in beauty products. I am a huuuuge chocoholic though, but somehow the smell of chocolate doesn’t belong in skin care or make-up for me 🙂

This reminds me of a ceramic ornament I made in third grade, and I painted it chocolate brown, and my dad seriously thought it was chocolate and almost ate it.

This is a really pretty palette! Not something I need, but looks very versatile.

LOVE! I love neutral palettes that have a few bolder colors for those days when you want a bit more pop. And great that it comes out in January because that gives me some time to recover from all the holiday palettes plus Christmas shopping!
