How Long Does It Take You To Get Ready in the Morning?

January 3rd, 2014 by Karen 39 Comments

Doopdadoo...just takin' my sweet time.
Doopdadoo…just takin’ my sweet time.

For the record, I’m not exactly a speed demon in the A.M. (totally not a morning person). Couple that with my penchant for, as my mom likes to call it, “dilly-dallying,” and we’re left with something other than a model of efficiency and proper time management.

Like on a typical morning it takes me…

  • 15 minutes — wash my face, brush my teeth, do my daily morning skincare routine and “handle some business” in my office, aka the bathroom (whatever, it’s the truth)
  • 10 minutes — shower if I’ve exercised that morning (tack on 5 more minutes if I need to wash my hair)
  • 5 minutes (or 20) — do my hair if I didn’t wash it the night before and it’s already curled or straightened; 20 minutes if I need to style it from scratch
  • 20-25 minutes — makeup
  • 15 minutes — figure out the clothing/accessories/shoes situation, and get dressed

All in all, about an hour or so, give or take 15-20 minutes, and that’s assuming I’m moving at a good clip (for me), and not getting distracted by things like the #StarbucksDrakeHands videos…

How about you? How long does it take you to get ready in the morning? 10 minutes? 45? An hour or two?

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

P.S. TGIF!

Thank you for all the great blog post ideas yesterday. Apparently, among other things, I need to do a hair tutorial, STAT. Alrighty then (she starts planning…).

What are you up to today? Tabs has me running around, per usual, and I’m also waiting for a furniture delivery because for Christmas El Hub and I got each other a new media stand from Cost Plus World Market.

Finally! No more TV on the floor…

Dude…when you and your partner start getting each other furniture for Christmas and you’re both really excited about it, I think that’s when you know you’ve reached the point of no return in your relationship, LOL!

Have a good one today. 🙂

I like to give myself an hour in the morning before I have to be ready for work. That includes shower, hair, makeup, and clothes. Cute TV stand! Furniture shopping can be as fun/addicting as makeup or clothes shopping!

I select my office wear the night before, that saves about 10 mins, rest-for the makeup 15 mins, bathroom operations-10 min 🙂

I always put on a youtube video while I get ready. It takes me anywhere from 20 to 45 minutes to get ready, which means I can get totally distracted. When I need to be quick though, I can get it done in 10-20 minutes. I really should learn how to be more efficient lol.

    Happy Friday Karen!

If I’ve showered the night before, give or take, 30 minutes for hair and make up. If I shower in the morning, tack on another 25 minutes for that, plus a 10 minute hair dry.

It all depends on where I’m going, also. I like to “romance myself”, as I get ready. That means taking my sweet time and carefully getting ready 🙂 Like, letting the moisturizer set for a few minutes, then add primer and let it set, then go on with the makeup, with a setting time in between each application, etc.

I’m slacking today. I should be wrapping up my workout and getting ready, about an hour ago. hahah.

TGIF, ya’ll! Looking forward to that hair tutorial/post, Karen! 😀

It totally depends on the morning. If dry shampoo is readily accessible, I don’t feel too stinky, and I wear super simple makeup, it can take me 30 minutes to get ready. If I’m washing my hair, shaving my legs, and/or using more than one eyeshadow, it can take me 60-90 minutes. Which is SUPER annoying. I always want more time in the morning to sit around, eat breakfast, sip on coffee… but I like my shut-eye, so I always hit the snooze if I have “extra time.” Sigh!

I’m with you, totally not a morning person and mega lolly gagging dilly dallier. It wasn’t until I started making YouTube videos did I realize what a slowpoke I am putting on makeup. When working I’d give myself 55 minutes for skincare, hair (brushing mainly, haha), getting dressed, making lunch and putting on makeup. Back in my younger days when I did the bare minimum I’d be out the door in 15 minutes, including taking a shower!

I need an hour. No matter what, although I’m always grateful for extra time. Since my acne went away (hallelujah) I take less time to do base, and since I went back to my natural hair colour I do less crazy eye stuff, so I need less time for a complete look.

It totally depends. I can get ready in 5 to 10 minutes when necessary, but if I have the time I can take upwards of 45 minutes to an hour from shower to hair/makeup done. I will say that having long hair without a ton of layers is very nice because it doesn’t take long to do anything with it. I rarely blow dry or use my flatiron, so even when my hair is wet it’s quick because I will usually pull it back in a French braid. When I do makeup my eyes take the longest because they are my favorite feature to enhance.

I need an hour to get ready and not feel rushed. Unless I need to blow-dry my hair. In which case, longer. Do you have any tips for skipping washes for those of us who get sweaty while working out? I haven’t found a way to skip washing (and blow-drying…ugh) on days I run and this every-other-day business is killing me (and my hair!).

Hi, sorry to meddle but well I might have something but I don’t know if you will like it. I sort of have the same hair blow-drying issue only I don’t run. My thing is that my hair is very very oily so I have to wash it everyday and that’s awful on working days because I have to get outta bed earlier too so there is enough time for washing and blow-drying. Whenever I’m too lazy what I do is in the sink I wash my bangs (or the same part when the hair is bigger) with a tad of shampoo and a drop of conditioner, then I apply a tiny bit of leave-in and blow-dry as usual. Since it’s a small lock of the hair, it goes very quickly. I use Batiste dry shampoo for the rest of the oily, dirty hair and then style it in a messy bun or ponytail. It’s nothing magical but it gives you a decent look even on lazy days of dirty hair.

I’m a complete dilly dallier in the mornings. Rarely do I make it out in under and hour and a half just for shower, makeup, ironing clothes, and getting dressed. At least 10 minutes of that is spent mediating between and/or petting my three dogs. If I factor in exercise and breakfast, you are looking at two and a half hours. I got up at 5:50 this morning and made it to work at 9:04, with a 15 minute commute. Oh, I also usually read emails/blogs for 30-45 minutes while I drink coffee to wake up. I enjoy my mornings and hate being rushed 🙂

I actually have no clue about this, so I was planning on timing everything I do tomorrow morning before I have to get back to school on monday. I do my hair the evening before and I’ve usually figured out what to were before. But the make-up and skincare is the only thing I can’t do beforehand so that’s annoying!

I love mornings… if I’ve had a full night of sleep beforehand, which is rarely the case! 😛 I usually completely screw myself time-wise by sleeping in as much as possible. So typically, my morning routine is 5 min or less skincare/teeth, 10 min letting moisturizer sink in/gather some things/do my business, 15-20 min makeup, then toss my work uniform on, so 5 min or less for that if I’ve got it all clean and easy to locate. A 30-min time crunch is (sadly) typical for my morning beauty/fashion routine, but I could easily use a full 1+ hours. When I have time, I’ll do my hair, which could be 15-40 min (depending on the style), but I usually just think “screw it” and toss it in a bun. It’s usually easier to (at least partially) style my hair the night before, and then just touch it up in the morning. Great blog question btw!

I wish I had getting ready down to such a fine art, I normally allow for an hour but inevitably hit snooze until I have about 20 minutes to get out of the door. I tend to swear that I will do better the next day but I haven’t managed it yet. Maybe this year will be the year I manage to brush my hair and have breakfast before I arrive at the office.

    Happy Friday!

I usually take about an hour and 20 minutes but that includes everything… shower, face routine, hairstyling, getting dressed and even having breakfast. The makeup part I usually do at work because even though it’s a very simple routine (primer + concealer + blush + lipstick and mascara sometimes) there is never enough time for it and a prefer to have a nicer and calmer breakfast than rush it just to have my makeup done at home. Waking up earlier just to have spare time for makeup is also not considered lol. In the end a rested face is much more efficient that makeup.

On a work morning, like 10-15 minutes. I typically do concealer, powder, blush and lipstick. Putting on my uniform takes 2 minutes. I shower, wash my hair, moisturize, etc the night before. On any other day, makeup would take maybe 20 minutes.

    Hi Karen!

TGIF! I have to tell you that you look GORGEOUS as usual in this photo. I love the feather earrings. Give Tabs a smooch for me!

When I get ready I have two different amounts of time I use. For a rushing to work day I can shower/wash/potty in about 20 minutes. Dress in about 8 minutes and then spend about 15-20 minutes on my makeup. That is because I rather sleep in as much as possible.
If I am not in a rush to head out, I could easily take 2-3 hours to get ready just taking my time. 1-2 hours easily spent on my makeup and hair! lol

    XOXO Sarah

I’ve been lucky enough to spend most days at home over the last few months, so it’s usually just 10 minutes to wash my face & brush my teeth, apply skincare products, and throw a few bobby pins in my hair to get it out of my face, lol!

If I’m actually leaving the house, I might spend an extra 15-20 mins applying concealer, powder, eyeliner, mascara & lipstick, doing my brows, and figuring out some sort of hairstyle.

I’ve never timed my routine, no idea how long it takes! My makeup look is pretty minimal most mornings because I value sleep too much, haha! I love my skincare routine though, so I never skimp on that.

dude! you take forever to get ready!
it takes me about 15 minutes most mornings, from the moment i jump outta bed (bathroom time 5 minutes), do makeup while getting dressed (10 minutes: put on moisturizer, put on skirt, put on primer, put on blouse, put foundation on, find belt, then on to rest of face). hair is generally a messy bun or a quick ponytail. whatever, at least i smell goood.
i am SO not a morning person. i’d rather spend additional half an hour sleeping than getting ready.

It really depends on what I’m doing. If I’m going for something simple and quick because I really need to be somewhere quickly, either I will just brush my teeth and go or I will take about 20 minutes total for makeup, five for hair. If I’m going all out and taking my time, probably two hours.

To prefix this, I work swings and don’t have to arrive until 1:45 pm. I’m single with no children too. So I have evolved a elaborate routine because I work outdoors in temps that vary depending on the season between 30 and 120 that takes 3 hours, half hour for skin and teeth, half hour for hair, and 1 and a half for makeup.
Way too long, but my makeup does not budge no matter how sweaty I get

One and a half hours. It’s crazy! But, here are the things I have to do.

    1. Shower (can’t stand to not have a shower in the a.m. Gotta get that film of sweat off of me!)
    2. Wash and set my hair with clips (I have curly hair and it’s very moody)
    3. primer
    4. turn on coffee
    5. wrinkle cream
    6. take the dogs out (mine is so spoiled….you have to throw the ball for her or she will not do her business! UGH! And I have to do this BEFORE I dry my hair or the humidity will destroy it!)
    7. Fry eggs, peel orange or get strawberries ( I have to eat breakfast at home due to my diet restrictions)
    8. Eat, brush teeth
    9. Make up
    10. dry hair
    11. Make a to go coffee.
    12. grab all book bags, packed lunch and purse (I’m a teacher)
I also HATE to rush and it seems no matter what time I get up, there is always that last minute rush to make the to-go coffee and grab the bags and get out the door!

Wish someone could help me pair it down! UGH! I’m tired after all of that!
