These Milani Power Lip Lasting & Moisturizing Gloss Stains Pack a Powerfully Pigmented Punch

January 9th, 2014 by Karen 22 Comments

Milani Power Lip Mango Tango
Wearing the new Milani Power Lip Lasting & Moisturizing Gloss in Mango Tango

Yeah, I’m turning into *that* girl — the one who applies a glossy lip stain right before bed just to see if it’ll still be there in the morning.

I did it the other night with one of Milani’s new Power Lip Lasting & Moisturizing Gloss Stains, and El Hub was like, “Why are you wearing lipstick to bed? Got a hot date?”

Milani Spring 2014
The Milani Power Lips collection, new for spring 2014

“First,” I replied, “it’s not a lipstick. It’s a stain. And second, yes, babe, Tabs and I are going as soon as you fall asleep.”

LOL! As if. Tabs is a total night owl, whereas I’ve usually zonked out by 11. I could never hang…but if I could, I’m sure any of these eight stains could hang with me.

These glossy lip stains are DOPE! They cling to lips like I cling to outdated ’90s references. 🙂

Milani Power Lip Swatches from the left: 01 Red Control, 02 Cabaret Blend, 03 Raspberry Tart, 04 Pink Lemonade, 05 Macaroon, 06 Strawberry Sugar, 07 Mango Tango and 08 Creamy Cafe

So, back to that bedtime test I was talking about, the following morning, I caught a glimpse of my reflection in the coffee pot and saw the stain from the shade I’d applied before bed (07 Mango Tango).

That’s an 8-hour wear time! — assuming you’re just dreaming about RyGos and mumbling in your sleep. Add munchies and meals to the mix, however, and the wear time drops to 4-6.

Still not bad at all, considering that each tube is only $6.49.

I like these. They remind me of YSL Glossy Stains, only not…

I mean, they’re the same idea — they look and feel like shiny glosses but eventually wear down to satin lip stains — big come in totally different packaging.

The YSL Glossy Stains come in a tube with a doe-foot applicator, while the Milani products come in a click pen tube with a brush applicator.

I don’t mind the click pen, in this case, but I’m not exactly crazy about it. I think it’s a little more challenging to use, like to line the edges of my lips, than YSL’s doe foot, in part because it’s difficult to control how much product it applies. I can’t, for example, imagine using it in the passenger seat as we’re driving to the movies.

But the formula itself? Really good. You get a ton of pigment for $6.49, and a little goes a long way.

I think that these also feel slightly thicker, sticker and heavier on my lips than YSL’s Glossy Stains, but they’re still comfy and quite moisturizing.

The faint buttery flavor and scent, I could do without, but it’s not a big whoop — again, considering the price.

I think all of the colors here are fab. I like 05 Macaroon and 08 Creamy Cafe on days when I want more of a nude lip look, and 07 Mango Tango and 04 Pink Lemonade on days when I want to wear something bright.

PRICE: $6.49 each
AVAILABILITY: Coming this February to drugstores (CVS for sure) and also online

The English Teacher

I’m reaching my Breaking Bad breaking point, so I Netflixed a cute movie last night called The English Teacher. I wasn’t expecting much because it only gets a 42% on Rotten Tomatoes, but I’ve always liked Julianne Moore, who stars in it, and I figured that if it’s really terrible, I’ll just turn it off.

The movie’s about a small-town high school English teacher (Julianne Moore) and the chaos that ensues when one of her former students, a writer now living in New York, returns to town.

It actually turned out to be much better and funnier than I expected. A good pick if you’re in the mood for something light.

Karen

I wouldn’t have thought the click pen would cause trouble.

These look really great and I LOVE the YSL Glossy Stains but really shouldn’t splurge on them. I will have to try these.

I think you could control the world with Red Control… 😉

I am lusting after these glossy stains, especially Macaroon and Strawberry Sugar!! I haven’t tried much Milani, but the drugstores are certainly booming this new year with all these great new collections! I just tried out the Wet ‘n Wild megaslicks balm stains and was pleasantly suprised by the pigmentation/wear time of the Lady and The Vamp shade (a plummy berry)! Anyhow, thanks for the amazing swatches and the movie suggestion! 😀

I love your 90s references! Lol they always give me a good laugh. I hate the fact that you’re making me want all of these new Milani lippies though! I already want to pick up more of the lipsticks and the try the intense lippies so these weren’t on my radar at all until now. The swatches are gorgeous!! I want Cabaret Blend, Raspberry Tart and Strawberry Sugar

I am most definitely checking these out when they hit the stores. You can’t beat that price for a good glossy stain! Cabernet Blend looks amazing on you, by the way.

I love all the shades but Creamy Cafe has my name on it. I don’t think I’ll mind the click pen and brush, actually I prefer a brush to the doe-foot. So February, CVS here I come

I’m smiling about the reflection in your first pic – the lippie is making your teeth look pink. 🙂 I also quickly read “buttery flavor and scent” as “butterfly” and did a double take. I probably shouldn’t touch anything important today at work. HAHA!

I meant to ask you about Breaking Bad. I got through most of Season 4 and had to take a break (I was marathon watching, too). Like you, I wanted something a little lighter. I have to go back and finish. Right now, I’m in the midst of Homeland Season 2 and lots of Magnum PI. Thanks to Encore Classics for getting me back into Magnum. 🙂
