For Potent Pigments in Petite Pencil Packaging, There’s the New LipSurgence Power Pigments by Tarte

Tarte Fearless
Wearing the new Tarte LipSurgence Power Pigment in Fearless on my lips

I shop in the petites section, I collect mini perfumes, and I have a reoccurring dream where I’m opening my front door, and there on the ground before me is a basket of baby munchkin kittens looking for a nice lady to adopt them.

I guess what I’m trying to say is this: I do believe that good things come in small packages. 🙂

Tarte LipSurgence Power Pigments
Cute! The new Tarte LipSurgence Power Pigments, $24 each

Like these sleek LipSurgence Power Pigment pencils by Tarte. They’re new for spring, streamlined and skinny (unlike my favorite tabby), and being added to the permanent line.

Paws for a second…

Compared to Tarte’s existing 0.10-ounce LipSurgence pencils, these diminutive 0.04-ounce ones, which are supposed to be more pigmented, are so petite that I almost mistook them for travel minis. The bigger versions look downright gargantuan by comparison!

What’s the skinny on Tarte’s tiny LipSurgence Power Pigments?

  • They’re available in eight vibrant, look-brightening shades.
  • The antioxidant-rich formula has a refreshing hint o’ peppermint (both flavor and scent).
  • According to Tarte, the tiny tubes make precise application easier, while minimizing waste and the size of your carbon footprint (uh…).
  • They also contain vitamin E, an antioxidant, as well as a natural anti-inflammatory and preservative; shea butter, which is supposed to help skin maintain its elasticity; and carnauba wax for smoooove application.

Each of the eight shades is also designed to perfectly pair with one of Tarte’s new recently repackaged Cheek Stains (review coming soon).

These remind me of NARS Satin Lip Pencils, only slightly sheerer and with a waxier feel.

As for wear time, well, in food-based terms (because I’m hungry right now, and that’s how my mind works), after chugging two huge bottles of water in two hours, I can still see Tipsy (the coral) on my lips, but when I was wearing Blissful the other day and the sudden urge to eat a TJ’s granola bar struck (it happens), I had to reapply right after.

Sooo, I’d expect to have to reapply 2-4 times per day, depending on the intensity of your snack schedule.

The smaller pencils will definitely lighten my load, which is always a good thing when you’re a lip product nomad who travels with a minimum of six glosses and lipsticks, but I’m scratching my head over the $24 price.

These new 0.04-ounce pencils are the same price as their older 0.10-ounce pencil cousins.

Hmm…

I do love Tarte and all, and I like these Power Pigments, but that’s a bummer.

PRICE: $24 each
AVAILABILITY: Available now online and at Sephora and Ulta stores

I can’t believe they’re the same price as the big ones.

I honestly don’t care too much for the products themselves, but I really like the packaging.

Natural Beauty and Tipsy are both super pretty and I like the idea of a smaller point since the other Tarte pencil’s aren’t sharpenable (go with it). But say whaaaaaat on the size-to-price business? I’m not buying it. Literally.

I love the designs on the packaging and the mini size would really work for me (when have I ever used up a lip crayon?), but the price is totally shocking. What the what? Also, I’ve been unable to wear the Tarte lip crayon I got last winter. It dries out my lips. Unfortunately, pass on these

I love all the colours and all the packaging, and the way all of them look on you Karen!

However, the price…even speaking as a resident of a country where cosmetics are fearfully expensive compared to the US, it just isn’t good PR to more than halve the size, charge the same and try and tell people that it’s for their own good.

You get a patented Sylirael Eyeroll, Tarte.

Geez, seriously?! 0.04 oz is TINY — like, tinier-than-some-samples tiny.

I don’t know what Tarte’s been up to recently with these drastically smaller sizes (do they think they’ll be able to distract us with some pretty packaging?), but it leaves a pretty sour taste in my mouth. I’d expect this from a corporate monstrosity like MAC, but Tarte? 🙁

As a huge fan of tartes lip Surgence, I was so excited to see these yet dismayed at the price for small product as noted by many others. I do love exposed and qvc provided one each for their kit that was available on auto delivery. So many people already have two of each such as my sister who likes these- but she did note that she will not be buying more or accepting further auto shipments as she is disappointed in several other products. And she was quite shocked at the small size. I agree to loving some petite products! But I also love a petite price that’s comparable to what I’m getting. Thanks again for a great review and they ALL look amazing on you especially my fav of Exposed!

Reducing carbon footprint is probably their excuse for giving customers lesser product for the same price 😉 I do like Tarte lipsticks so I’d likely pick one up just for the sake of it.

I still haven’t tried these. I have heard some mixed things on them, so I’m unsure if it’s even worth it.

I love these new colourful designs Tarte is coming up with! These smaller pencils are cute but $24?? I just knew you were going to say like $15-18. They’re so tiny compared to the regular version. Sheesh Tarte!

Dude, what is with the incredible shrinking Tarte line? I’m sorry I’m just catching up so I’m reading everything in reverse but it’s like deja vu from the cheek stains! Reminds me of the genie from Aladdin (love that movie). Phenomenal cosmic powers… itty bitty living space. Of course, in Tarte’s case, it’s phenomenal cosmic claims. 🙂 I’d better get another Smooth Operator/BB cream before they cut that in half, too!
