MAC’s Viva Glam Rihanna Lipstick and Lipglass: A Red Lip Combo That’s Red-y for Anything

February 6th, 2014 by Karen 22 Comments

MAC Viva Glam Rihanna Lipstick and Lipglass
Well, hello, red!

Sure, red lips are classic and timeless and they never go out of style. True, true and true. But, oh! — I would have love to have worn MAC Viva Glam Rihanna Lipstick ($16) and Lipglass ($15) over the holidays.

Sadly, they hadn’t been around then because they’re newer than that.

As members of the MAC Viva Glam family of gorgeous products, 100 percent of the proceeds from the sale of MAC Viva Glam Rihanna Lipsticks and Lipglasses go to support the MAC AIDS Fund, which helps women, children and men living with HIV/AIDS.

MAC Viva Glam Rihanna

As you may expect, Tabs is finicky about the red lipsticks he allows his pet assistants to wear, but he loves this intense blueish red (he also wishes it had been available over the holidays because it matches his red sequined Christmas outfit perfectly…).

The other day, my buddy Marisol asked me if I considered this Lipstick and Lipglass combo “must have,” and ya know, I do. Must. Have. A thousand times over. 🙂

MAC Viva Glam Rihanna Lipstick and Lipglass
MWAH!

Both of them rock on their own, but together — well, take a deep breath before you look in the mirror because their rich, sparkly red deliciousness will take your breath away.

I’d definitely recommend lining your lips first, though. Both of them are, as you can probably tell, hella pigmented, and I think they’re hard to freehand without something to act as a barrier around the edges of your lip line.

I tried applying the lipstick without a liner and ended up with lipstick all over the place… I looked like that crazy clown from that Stephen King novel (what was that one called?). Of course, right when this happened, one of the contractors working outside looked up at my window, and I quickly scooted out of the way like an apparition in an old horror movie, haha! OF COURSE.

So I experimented with a few pencils and really liked the way MAC’s Pro Longwear Lip Pencil in Trust in Red works with both of these colors. It’s a cool red with a creamy finish, and I think it goes well with VGR’s cool blueish red tones.

MAC Viva Glam Rihanna Lipstick and Lipglass
Channeling Billy Idol…

First, I line my lips with Trust in Red, then feather out the edges with a finger. I do a layer of Viva Glam Rihanna (applied directly from the tube), and top it with the matching Lipglass. It’s an extra step, but I like that lovely edge.

If you’re ready for these reds, Viva Glam Rihanna Lipstick and Lipglass are available now at MAC stores and maccosmetics.com.

I wonder if RiRi would appreciate this…

Because I totally do, hahaha! This is from kittiesandbullshit.com, a website filled with funny drawings of cats and song lyrics.

So, basically, it’s my dream come true.

RIGHT?!

I hear the site’s been around a while, but I didn’t know about it, and you know what they say, right? Ignorance of cat-themed humor is cat lady bliss. 🙂

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

Oh my goodness, they are beautiful! And I adore the look of the tube. Not sure I can do both, so what does the lipstick look like on its own? Also, you said you “feather out the edges (of the liner) with a finger”. I’ve never done that before. What does it do?

It is a little funny that they released these after the holidays, but they’re arriving in time for Valentine’s, I guess. I’ve been pretty excited about these ever since seeing the promo photo, and they look SO GREAT on your lips! I plan on picking both up.

This is such a beautiful bright lipstick. I love the way MAC interprets such amazing trends with some iconic people like Rihanna and then donate it into the MAC Aids fund. This is a very noble thought.

I love that you love kittes&bullshit! How does it meet with Tabs discriminating taste?

I really want these lippies. This they may be just the red I’ve been looking for. What blushes do you recommend pairing them with?

So pretty! You convinced me to get them. Can you recommend a decent cheap clear lip liner? I rarely use lip liners so I need one with more universal application. Also, are you supposed to line inside or outside the lip line with clear lip liner?

I’m not a real “blue red” fan but these WILL BE MINE! I always feel like when I purchase Viva Glam I’m getting product for free. Since I have a collection of red lippies anyway – THESE WILL BE MINE!

BE MINE – for Valentines? maybe… or my b-day! YEA!

This years Sephora b-day gift is a lippie and mascara from MUFE I think. woo hoo – the gifts really are getting better.

That is beautiful! When I think of red lips I never go gloss..but it’s a spin to the original, no?
