Unsung Makeup Heroes: Hourglass Femme Rouge Lipstick in Muse

Got milk? coral lipsticks on the brain?

Why, yes. Yes, I do. But what else is new?

Maybe it’s a genetic thing. I don’t know… But last night I was chatting with my mom on the phone about coral lipsticks and my 86-year-old godmother in the Philippines.

My godmother, whom I call Ninang (pronounced knee-nung), is the most glamorous gal I know, and my mom was telling me last night about how Ninang is apparently obsessed with coral lipsticks right now, LOL!

I guess it runs in the fam. 🙂

I think Ninang would thoroughly approve of Hourglass Femme Rouge Lipstick in Muse, the creamy coral lippie I’m wearing in these pics.

My heart fluttered the first time I saw it. No joke.

Then when I slipped it on — oh, my goodness! — I may have hyperventilated a little. The intense pigment, shiny finish and bright color were all too much for me (but in a “I’m perfectly OK with this” kind of way).

Hourglass Muse Swatch

Now, Muse looks pretty dope on its own, but if you want to turn up the drama even more, try layering a reddish coral gloss on top, like MAC Star Quality Cremesheen from the A Fantasy of Flowers collection.

Looks phenom! — as does Hourglass Nectar Extreme Sheen Lip Gloss. (Do I need to post pics of these combos? Let me know. I’ve been all about the combos lately.)

Wear time is typical of the lipsticks in the Femme Rouge line. I get from 4-5 hours. Muse is also crazy moisturizing, so if your lips are forever flaky and dry like mine (sigh), you’ll probably appreciate the heavy hit of hydration.

The long-running Unsung Heroes series features some of my favorite permanent collection products from a variety of bodacious beauty brands.

Not that it’s the perfect time of year for tans, but I think Muse does look particularly fetching with ’em, especially when paired with shimmery gold or bronze eyes. But seriously, why wait for warmer weather to wear it? Muse, with its classically vintage pin-up vibe, is eminently wearable all year long. Try it with a thick line of black cat liner and a peach matte blush. 🙂

Killer, babe… Killer.

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

P.S. Well, that about does it for Monday, babe. Just about.

What are you up to tonight? I didn’t work out this morning (yargh), which I hate, but I might try jogging a few miles on the treadmill tonight. We’ll see.

I was surfing the Nordstrom website last night and came across this clothing line called Alo. Do you have any of their clothes? They look kind of Lululemon-esque.

I think this gray hoodie and these leggings are pretty cute…

Might be something I can bribe myself with. “Karen, if you exercise every day this week, you can get yourself something from Alo.” Usually works like a charm. 🙂

P.P.S. The Walking Dead? Did you watch last night? What did you think? How about that very last scene at the door? Wasn’t that great?

This is lovely on you Karen! Though I find Muse more orangey than red. I’ve had corals on my mind too, just trying out Estee Lauder Signature Hydra Lustre lipstick in ‘Spiced Coral’. Have you tried that?

My Ninang was a glam gal too! She was so elegant and dressed so well. Her makeup was simple but accentuated her features… wonderfully maganada!!!

I like how this shade looks on you. Speaking of working out, this weekend I have bought some clothes for that, Reebok mostly and I am pretty happy with everything so far.

Karen, you have been looking so lately. May I ask what foundation and/or highlighter you are using? I just got the hourglass liquid lipstick version of muse last week after you made me lust over it. I really love it.

This lipstick looks stunning on you! So bright and cheerful, but not over the top.

I’m glad there are Karens around so I can admire how great this lipstick is, since it would be an epic disaster on me! 😛

Karen, maybe there’s a reason you all love the coral lipsticks, as that one is stunning on you. I’ve heard a lot of great things about the Hourglass line lately, and I need to check it out soon.

WOW – now I have two more Hourglass colors to add to my arsenal. I love this coral on you and I think I could wear it well. I also really like Fever – you had it on in another pic.

I usually reserve buying these lippies during F&F because of the expense but since the blush isn’t available and I want my b-day gift from Sephora I may splurge.

I already own Raven (my favorite red, wait, it’s now second to YSL Glossy Stain in #9 but that’s really expensive LOL); and,I also enjoy Nocturnal, Grace, and WHisper.

I may get Muse first since my NARS heatwave bit the dust.

Sounds like you come from a family of very beautiful and glamorous women! That color is divine on you. I need to explore this line of lippies, especially if they are as moisturizing as you say. I once tried on some Alo tops at Nordies. They didn’t work for my body type. I’m short and those tops came down past my bum and then some. Not quite to my knees, but definitely way past my bum. Sigh. Really wanted them to work, because they were seriously cute tops for working out in.

Bold lips look purrfect with your new hair color. Very striking. I’ll have to keep my eyes out for hourglass lippies in shades that would compliment me too.

Corals tend to make me look jaundiced (thanks, yellow overtones in my super-pale complexion), but my heart was also a-flutter the first time I tried the Femme Rouge lipstick in Nocturnal (a PERFECT plum pink shade). It’s definitely one of my faves, and I am so impressed with Hourglass’s line of products.

I love coral reds, they’re my favorite kind of red (or bold lippie in general). This is gorgeous! I’m so lazy about lip color though…

They do lunchtime yoga at my work, which I’m really tempted to take up, but I worry about getting all yucky mid-day. I might have to try it though.

Your Ninang would be enamored of this post!! This color is a show-stopper, so stunning and fabulous. TWD was awesome, I was SO glad to see Michonne reunite (willfully) with Rick and Carl! I can’t wait to see what’s up with everyone else, and even what happened to anyone (namely “Pigtails” – the former Atl P.D. cadet/sister of the Gov’s latest lady love) left at the prison. I need Maggie and Glenn back together ASAP! And did you notice Melissa McBride/Carol’s name still in the opening credits? Is she going to come back? So many Q’s that need A’s!
