Cheeks, Lips and Nails Bask in Bronze, Coral and Pink Shades With Guerlain’s New Summer 2014 Collection

May 8th, 2014 by Karen 19 Comments

Guerlain Summer 2014
Wearing the new Guerlain Summer 2014 collection

I know you’re not supposed to stare at the sun, but in the case of Guerlain’s new summer 2014 collection, it can’t be helped.

The sun symbol on the new Celebration Powder Compact and the bottle of Terracotta Le Parfum is so mesmerizing that I keep losing myself in its golden glow…

While daydreaming about the many eco-adventures I could have while wearing the bronzer and blush compact on my face (I’ve been flirting with the idea of a trip to Costa Rica or Belize), Tabs hopped in my lap! It gave me such a start that I accidentally dug my nails into the pan.

Shoot.

Oh, well. Whatcha gonna do, right? #makeuploverproblems #bronzeraddictissues

Guerlain Summer 2014
Guerlain Summer 2014

This succinct six-piece limited edition collection basks in bronzy, sunny, summery shades of brown, orange and coral for lips and cheeks…and there’s also a gorgeous bottle of perfume.

Not much going on in terms of eye makeup this year — just a single waterproof mascara in Guerlain’s fabulous Cils D’Enfer Maxi Lash formula, which, no joke, makes my lashes look like Zac Efron’s.

I like what I see, but it would’ve been nice to also get some cool metallics or eye kolhs this year.

A few thoughts on the new collection, which is available now at Bloomingdales, Saks Fifth Avenue, Nordstrom, Neiman Marcus, Sephora, Bergdorf Goodman stores and online…

Guerlain Terracotta Sun Celebration Powder Compact
Terracotta Sun Celebration Powder Compact ($76)

Guerlain Terracotta Sun Celebration Powder Compact ($76): Two shades of matte bronzer to sculpt, and matte pink and coral blushes to brighten cheeks and skin. There’s also a touch of gold (it’s an overspray) for shimmer.

The bronzers apply sheer when I swatch them with my finger, but deposit more color on my skin when I apply them with a brush. Same goes for the blushes. The powders appear effortless and natural on the skin, and blend sans drama.

Guerlain Terracotta Le Perfum
Terracotta Le Parfum EDT ($73)

Guerlain Terracotta Le Parfum ($73): My new favorite “summer in a bottle” scent, it has notes of bergamot, tiare flower, ylang ylang and vanilla.

This soft, summery fragrance is like a forbidden kiss on a tropical beach at sunset… I like to reapply after about 5-6 hours to keep the scent going.

Guerlain 940 Nahema Stack Gloss DEnfer maxi Shine
Gloss D’Enfer Maxi Shine in 940 Nahema Stack ($30)

Guerlain Gloss D’Enfer Maxi Shine in 940 Nahema Stack ($30): Non-sticky and smooth, this sheer bright orange gloss feels delightful on my lips, where it lasts about two hours. It tastes and smells a little like rose-flavored candy, too.

Mmm…

Guerlain 602 Tonka Imperiale Le Vernis Nail Lacquer
Le Vernis Nail Lacquer in 602 Tonka Imperiale ($25)

Guerlain Le Vernis Nail Lacquer in 602 Tonka Imperiale ($25): This bronzy brown polish applies smoothly and shines almost like a mirror.

Guerlain 602 Tonka Imperiale Rouge Automatique
Rouge Automatique in 602 Tonka Imperiale ($35)

Guerlain Rouge Automatique in 602 Tonka Imperiale ($35): This bronzy brown looks great with a tan, and it matches the nail polish perfectly! Moisturizing and smooth, Tonka sticks around for 2-3 hours.

Guerlain Cils D'Enfer Maxi Lash Waterproof Mascara
Cils D’Enfer Maxi Lash Waterproof Mascara in 01 Noir ($30)

Guerlain Cils D’Enfer Maxi Lash Waterproof Mascara in 01 Noir ($30): My lashes look like falsies when I wear this mascara! So much great length and curl hold, and it lasts all day long.

For me, this collection is like a three-day weekend in early June that gives you a taste of summer but makes you crave more. The cheeks and lips are on point for the season, and the new scent makes me want to book a trip to someplace warm RIGHT NOW!

I definitely would’ve liked to see more eye makeup, though (pardon the pun).

Speaking of summer trips…

I still don’t have anything planned, but I’m tempted to go back to Kauai to visit my Kauai kitties…

Hiking down to Hideaways Beach on the North Shore of Kauai last summer, a great snorkeling spot for intermediate and advanced snorkelers (because the trek down to it involves ropes and steep stairs!).
Cat lady in paradise!

I also started doing some research/fantasy daydreaming last night into Costa Rica and Belize.

Both look super cool! If you’ve ever been or know anything about them, please share. I’m intrigued by the ideas of being able to see Mayan ruins or wild animals.

Do you have any trips lined up for the summer?

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

The powder looks great on you! I swatched it over the weekend and was disappointed. Maybe I should use a brush to test it out.

I’ll be heading to SF for a stagette next month. And then vegas in a few months. Going to save up for a bigger trip next year

Oh man, this collection is practically made for you, Karen! Everything looks spot-on! I have to tread a bit more carefully with the bronzer, but on you I’m sure it’s JUST right. Mad love for Nahema Smack as well 🙂

      Hi Sunny,

I think you just need to find the right bronzer to fall in love with. 😉

Nahema Smack would look fab with your corals!

I went to Belize last year with girlfriends. I was in a state of pure joy the entire time. Since we were looking to relax, we didn’t do any outdoor/jungle adventures. We stayed in Ambergris Caye on the beach. The most exciting/blissful thing we did was rented a private boat for the day. We went fishing the first half (and our guide dove for about 10 lobster). We then proceeded to a nearby secluded beach where our guide cooked us our fresh caught feast…arguable the best meal I’ve had. The latter part of the day was spent snorkeling on the reef. It was half beautiful and amazing and half terrifying. There are plenty of sharks and gigantic sting ray! They say the sharks are harmless, but some are pretty huge and they still have big teeth;) Also, you can rent a golf cart to drive around the island in…what’s not to love?!

I just adore Guerlain’s packaging! Everything looks so beautiful! I thought the bronzer would be too light but it actually looks really nice. The gloss is absolutely gorgeous! You just make everything look good!

Oh no! What happened to your poor Sun Celebration compact? (I’m always dinging things that I want to keep smooth 😛 Especially nail polish!)

That gloss is so lovely! What can I say, I’m addicted to corals (I don’t think I’m alone, LOL)

The item I’m most intrigued by is the fragrance!

We think we’re going to go to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter in Orlando, Florida this summer! We haven’t had a vacation really in a long time! We were hoping to go to Amsterdam, since I have a conference paper accepted at a university there, but flights are crazy expensive right now!

The perfume bottle looks so gorgeous.
(Everything else looks gorgeous, too, but then I saw you listing bergamot as the first note, so I ended up focusing only on the perfume :p)

I received my Sun Celebration compact yesterday. It’s my first Guerlain bronzer. It’s beautiful and I’m happy. I’m going to try not to disrupt the gold overspray in the center (lol). So sorry about your compact!

Hey Karen! Long time, no comment.

Went to Belize for a week for Valetine’s Day this year, and it was the BEST EVER. We wanted to stay forever. We stayed at Chabil Mar in Plasencia — highly, highly recommend. Best service and nicest people ever. Feel free to email me if you want to chat about it!

As I am loyal customer, they give me a free facial in their US boutique and then at the end of the experience, they forced me to buy products worth 600 euro!!!! Well… thats the most expensive facial I have ever had! I got cheated!!!!
