Will New Smashbox 24 Hour Photo Finish Shadow Primer Help Your Shadows Stay Strong While You Dance Till Dawn?

New Smashbox 24 Hour Photo Finish Shadow Primer ($20) and a sultry tabby’s tum

It’s been a while since the last time I wore the same makeup for a full 24 hours.

I seem to recall something about a nightclub and having to run a race early the next morning. But, as these things sometimes go, one thing led to another, and pretty soon eating French fries at the witching hour seemed like a really good idea (“I’m carbo loading!”).

Oh, hell yeah!

Then you’re doing the robot at the End Up (the club where you “end up” when all the other clubs in San Francisco close) while the sun is rising outside…

Anywho!

If you’re all about that 24-hour, French-fry-eating, robot-dancing life, or you just like wearing eyeshadow all day, errr-day, the new 24 Hour Photo Finish Eye Primer by Smashbox says, “Hey, girl, haaay!”

Tabs is all about the 3 a.m.-gravy-eating life, yo

That’s a name with a bold claim right there. It’s supposed to lock your shadow down for 24 hours, even under extreme conditions — perspiration, high humidity, thunder showers, you name it. It also promises to amplify the vibrancy of any shadows worn with it and prevent creasing and smudging.

Just give it a squeeze (the tube, not the tabby’s tum), and apply a thin layer of the colorless primer to your lids. Wait 30 seconds for it to dry, then go at it with your brushes and shadows.

I’ve been using it for about a week now with powder shadows, creams and various eye combos, because girlfriend likes to play. 🙂

The smooth formula feels wonderful — like a silky eye cream — and doesn’t change the color of the shadows I layer on top.

Everything stays true.

That said, I don’t think I’ll be giving up NARS Pro-Prime Smudge Proof anytime soon (still my number one!), mostly because 24 Hour gives up on my combination dry/oily lids after about 8-9 hours.

We’re great until about hour 7, at which point the creasing begins, and my eye makeup and I start to break up, especially around my fine lines.

I think 24 Hour Photo Finish might be better suited to gals and guys in their teens and early 20s — basically, someone with very, very minor fine lines, if any.

Yup, you may want to brace yourself for some creasing while you’re chomping on those heavenly 3 a.m. fries.

Greetings, oh glorious bucket…

You can find Smashbox 24 Hour Photo Finish now at Smashbox counters, Sephora and also online for $20.

Gah! So many movies, so little time, babe! There are a couple of big ones coming out this weekend.

I’m pretty stoked about The Fault in Our Stars, which is based on a really wonderful young adult book of the same name by John Green.

I love it so much that I’ve read it a few times, and now I fear that if I don’t like the movie, I may end up tearing my shirt like the Hulk and rampaging through downtown Novato.

Just kidding, haha… Sort of.

El Hub wants us to see a new sci-fi flick instead, Edge of Tomorrow, with Tom Cruise.

I’ll do it for him (El Hub, not Tom. Sorry, Tom.), but only if there are movie snacks involved. I’m still kind of sore from all of the eye rolling I did during Godzilla, El Hub’s last movie pick.

Have you seen any good movies lately? If you haven’t caught Maleficent yet, you gotta get on that! I really enjoyed it — more than I expected to — and of course, Angie’s makeup is killer.

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

Hi Karen! I too am absolutely in love with the NARS pro-prime smudgeproof…I especially like it because I can apply it to just below my waterline and it helps my Bobbi gel eyeliner stay put for hours allowing me to create bold eye looks…otherwise everything used to smudge on my waterline! BTW, how long do you wait after applying it to your lids before you start applying eyeshadow? My hubs and I too are planning movies for the weekend, like we usually do 🙂

      Hi Paulomi,

Isn’t Pro-Prime Smudgeproof the BEST?! I have literally lost count of how many I’ve gone through. Have you tried NARS Pro-Prime Instant Line & Pore Perfector yet? It’s just as great. I use it on my cheeks and on my nose to mellow out mah crazy pores!!

So, how long do I wait… I usually like to prime my face and eyes first, then I let it all settle in while I do my hair to give it a chance to absorb. But if I’m rushing, then a minute or two seems to work just fine.

What movies are you guys going to watch? Have you seen Maleficent? It is SO GOOD.

Can i get to touch cushiony soft Tabs belly.. 😛 .. Hahhaa
I have used NYX HD primer and it did a good job at keeping the eye shadow creaseless for long but I kindda hate the wait time between primer and eye shadow application.. 😛

This primer looks good with its creamy texture but doesnt it too long to settle and prepare eye shadow application..

a makeup artist told me that a lot of the moisture that causes creasing on the lids is from sweat on your brow or hairline migrating downward, even if you aren’t obviously sweaty. it made me feel super attractive since eyeshadow creases on me in like 30 minutes without primer!

Just got back from The Fault in our Stars! I looooved the book (as did the husband, he actually read it first), and the movie was quite good as well!

I saw the bold claims of this, but based on your review, I’ll probably stick with the NARS. I remember using a sample of the other nude-tinted Smashbox eye primer in a tube like the NARS one years ago and liking it, but the nude color read orange on me, LOL!

Thanks for the honest review! I was thinking of giving up UD Eden in favour of this one, but been loth to do so, as I love the way eden evens out my lids before e/s application.
