Mashed potatoes, gravy, biscuits, buttered corn…
CORN! Mmm, corn.
I’m trying to get a grip on myself, but my body is acting of its own accord (*tummy rumbles*). Every time I open the new Dolce & Gabbana Smooth Eye Color Quad in Tangier, I immediately think “Happy Thanksgiving!”
It’s not my fault. It’s the orange, man. Seeing it there next to that brown and gold, and I momentarily forget that it’s not fall. I feel like busting out my boots with the fur (with the fur) and jumping into a pile of autumn leaves.
Funny thing is, it’s not a fall quad. Tangier is one of two limited edition quads in the new Dolce & Gabbana Summer Glow collection, available now at counters and online.
With its rich amber and gold, it’s perfect for sexy screen siren looks, whether now in the summer, or later in the fall.
Sixty bones is a lot for an eyeshadow quad, but at least this one is remarkably easy to use. I’ve been wearing it for the past few days, and I’m surprised. I can’t believe how easy it’s been to incorporate into casual and dressy looks — even that cray-cray matte orange.
For these first pics I tried to think outside the box, so I’m wearing it in the crease with a hazy orange smokey eye.
Only semi-cray. 😉
But I’ve also used the quad in more causal ways. Like, the other day I buffed the light peach, which has just the perfect amount of sheen so it isn’t too shimmery, from my lash line up to my brow bone, blended the matte brown into the crease, and then lightly dusted the shimmery gold in the inner corners, before finishing with a bit of black liner and mascara.
I also used the quad in a brown smoky eye, smudging a black kohl pencil along my lash lines (both upper and lower), and blending the matte brown on top of that. Then I blended the peach on my brow bone and inside the inner corners.
And you definitely don’t need a gold medal in blending (what if that was actually a thing?) to do a lot with this quad, either, because the shadows practically melt on contact with each other. They’re that smooth… I’m talking smoother than MJ’s moonwalk.
It’s worth nothing that Tangier’s shadows don’t last as long as the eyeshadows in my “long-haul” eye palettes by Chanel and NARS, which can last 12-14 hours. The shadows in Tangier fade on me around hour 7-8, but it’s not a dramatic disappearing act. More like an elegant fade.

Those nails, though!
Speaking of sexy screen sirens, I watched Lucy last weekend, and while the movie wasn’t riveting (turned my brain into cheese fondue), Dolce & Gabbana spokeswoman ScarJo looked fab.
Especially her nails. OMG! El Hub nearly jumped out of his seat when I grabbed his arm and whisper-shouted into his ear, “She’s wearing Dolce & Gabbana Platinum Nail Polish!”
I’m about 99.9% sure it was Platinum. I might even bet my cat on it…

This quad does remind me of Thanksgiving too but I’m fine with it. I’m kinda already in a fall makeup mood. That Orange looks pretty on you. I’m glad you mentioned what lipstick you’re wearing cause it’s beautiful. I might have to order it right now, lol. Btw I was at a Mac counter last Friday looking at lipsticks and Sweetie caught my attention. Do you have it?
Karen says
Hi Agata,
I’m so far from fall mode. It’s been SUPER hot here lately (90’s!) and the last thing I want to do is blend tons of color on my mug, LOL. Been sweating like a beast, yo!
So, that lip color, Impassioned, is one of my all-time faves from MAC. Here’s more info on it if you want more pics.
I just looked in my MAC drawer and realized that I don’t have Sweetie. Do I need it? 🙂
Agata says
Ha ha, you should check it out next time you are at a Mac counter because it might not look very pigmented on your lips. It’s an interesting color though, it’s kinda sheer and Mac describes it as “ultra sweet pink” but it’s kind of dark pink mixed with brown, it’s really really gorgeous!

pretty palette

Hi Icequeen,
Yeah, I like it too. Do you do matte orange shadow? It’s a relatively new thing for me. I was surprised to find it so wearable!

The entire look is beautiful! Talk about glow! You’re glowing like a goddess and your hair looks so pretty. I LOVE that quad though! The swatches look much better than I was expecting. So gorgeous!

Ooh, a matte orange! It would look absolutely terribad on me, but that doesn’t stop me from thinking it’s awesome 😉
Also LOL @ startling El-Hub with movie-makeup recognition 😀

HAHA! El Hub has to be ready for these things!
Totally Thanksgiving on the quad but I love your casual daytime look (it’s not overly fall-like). And Malice. Sigh. I love it so much that I have to check with the boys every day to make sure I’m not veering into rodeo clown territory. Too much blush? 🙂

I’d never win the gold in blending, but my college sport was applying dramatic lipcolors without a mirror while crammed in the car headed out to a show, I’d at least grab bronze in that. 😛
This palette reminds me a lot of the Kat Von D Ladybird matte palette, with that orange as a focal color in both. Looks super good as a smokey eye paired with a deep plum in the crease, and you can tone it down nicely by blending it with a pink or peach shimmer, like MAC expensive pink or mythology.
I haven’t posted here in a while so I have to add that per your recommendation I picked up the Laura Mercier burnished copper eye paint and it is EVERYTHING. Makeup forecast for the next 3 months: bronze smokey eye. So easy to apply and blend for such a dramatic color, too!

The eyeshadow looks great on you. I need that nail polish. Ok..perhaps “need” isn’t really accurate. I want that nail polish!!!!!!!!! I just told DH when he goes to see “Lucy” with the guys this evening to check out her nail polish. Do you think that hint may be a bit too subtle?????
