The MAC A Novel Romance Collection Lipsticks: Yield to Love, Good Kisser!

I’m kinda getting into this whole romance novel thing (maybe I’ll actually read the one I got the other day!), like, by lustily posing for pics and tussling my hair.

My pout likes it, too. It got to try the six lipsticks from the MAC A Novel Romance collection yesterday.

The four pink and rose shades, which look like something you might find in a MAC late winter/early spring launch (see: MAC A Rose Romance… So old school!), and two deeper, more traditional fall matte shades in plum and deep red, almost seem like they belong in different collections.

My first impression? They seemed worlds apart, like the protagonists in an epic love story.

Of course, one of them has to be from the wrong side of the tracks, and their relationship is forbidden (it always has to be forbidden), and just when it seems like they’ll never be together, BAM! — somehow things work out.

From the left, that’s Lustre Lipstick in Myself, Cremesheen Lipstick in A Novel Romance, Matte Lipstick in Good Kisser, Matte Lipstick in Hearts Aflame, Matte Lipstick in Lingering Kiss and Cremesheen Lipstick Yield to Love (the one online exclusive).

Like our intrepid lovers, something also brings these six lipsticks together, and that something is the quads.

Seriously, it’s actually kind of neat. I feel like you can wear any of the lipsticks from this collection with any of quads, and they’ll look great. They mix and match perfectly.

You already heard how I want to ride off into the sunset on a chestnut-colored mare with the rosy shade, Yield to Love, and the bright pink shade, Good Kisser, so let’s move on to the other characters in our story… 🙂

Hearts Aflame and Lingering Kiss are the two rather traditional fall shades. Technically, both have a matte finish, but they don’t look flat, at least to my eye. I see them as flirty with a kiss of shine that makes them interesting and gives them dimension.

A Novel Romance, the pale pink, is technically also a matte, but it, too, has a subtle sheen.

I didn’t think I’d like this one at all the first time saw it in the tube. Cool matte pastels have a history of not working out for me (hello, Viva Glam Nicki 2), but this one plays nice.

Intensely opaque and smoother than a bodybuilder’s waxed chest, this light pink is surprisingly wearable. It can look very sexy Playboy bunny/Pamela Anderson, especially when paired with dark smokey eyes and a bad cattitude. Work it, mama! *Snaps*

And I feel like the sixth shade, Myself, a sheer, shimmery nude beige, would also look great with smokey eyes (dark). It’s not the most daring or lusty lipstick in the release, but it balances with the other colors in the collection nicely.

If you’re interested, these six shades and the rest of the MAC A Novel Romance collection arrive online August 14. Five of them will be available in stores and at counters August 21 (Myself, A Novel Romance, Good Kisser, Hearts Aflame and Lingering Kiss), while Yield to Love will be an online exclusive on the MAC website.

I’m a sucker for dark lipsticks! How well did Lingering Kiss apply/last? I’m on the fence with this one since I have a good amount of fall colors already. My go to is MAC’s Sin lipstick with Nightmoth lip liner.

I’m so loving all these sexy poses Karen! You’re hot stuff! I need more lipstick like I need a hole in the head but you make all of these look so appealing. I’m not sure if I could pull off A Novel Romance but it just looks so good on you! I kinda want it. Lingering Kiss is also starting to call to me…

You look amazing in all these shades, I swear I wish I had your skintone… I am actually really happy to see that MAC went a different direction than the typical fall palettes with shades of chestnut and gold and cranberry… Some of the fall elements are still there, khaki eyeshadow, plum lips, but mixing it up with some fresher colors was a nice change… It still somehow feels fall-like despite it all…

Look at you! I love the 2 fall-looking shades but they’re a bit too dramatic for me (I feel like I’ve been saying that a lot). Nice work pulling off the sexy poses! I would look like such a doofus and would be busting out laughing the whole time. I’m kind of embarrassed for myself just thinking about it. HAHA! You, on the other hand, look fabulous!

Definitely will be getting Yield To Love, and the more I see A Novel Romance, the more I want it. Also definitely liking Good Kisser, but I do have a lot of similar shades…I wonder how close it is to Happy-Go-Lucky from the Playland collection?

      Hi Paige,

I typically use a couple different cameras and a mix of artificial and natural lighting. It really depends on how I’m feeling that day and the look I’m going for. I took these shots a while back; I’m pretty sure I used a Canon EOS 70D and a mix of ring light and natural light.

Has anyone brought these yet? I notice that for lingering kiss and hearts aflame they smelled different, not the normal soft vanilla smell. But they’re less drying then the normal mac matte lipsticks
