As a Woman (or a Dude!), What’s Your Favorite Men’s Cologne or Deodorant?

August 13th, 2014 by Karen 51 Comments

Dolce and Gabbana Light Blue Pour Homme

You know what’s weird? Between El Hub and Tabs, I’m surrounded by dudes 24/7, and interestingly enough, they usually smell similar — like a blend of boxed mashed potatoes, over-ripe peaches, tuna and preserved meat.

Sometimes, though (like when he’s too lazy to shower), El Hub will do me a solid by spraying Dolce & Gabbana Light Blue Pour Homme on himself.

It’s my flat-out favorite men’s cologne. Even amidst the backdrop of eau de mashed potatoes, peaches, etc., the light and citrusy, yet masculine, scent still makes me swoon.

Sometimes I’ll even steal a spritz or two… 🙂

Oh! And here’s the best part: whenever El Hub is wearing it and Tabs climbs up on his shoulders, which he does at least once a day for lurvies, the scent permeates his fur.

Sweet!

As a woman (or a dude!), what’s your favorite men’s cologne or deodorant?

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

P.S. Happy hump day.

My favorite is Curve for Men. A former roommate said she preferred it to the women’s version, and having tried it I agree with her. I also like Tuscany, but I’ve been unable to find it in about 15 years.

My guy doesn’t and won’t wear a fragrance, but I used to adore Givenchy Gentleman that my old friend’s ex-husband used to wear. I wear Musc Ravageur which is a fabulous gender-neutral scent that many men do wear. Love it

I love wearing mens cologne and I love it when hubster has it on too. I share is sooo… ya lol. We don’t wear the same scent at the same time though, FYI. Ralph Lauren 3 (green bottle), Yves Saint Laurent L’Homme and Dolce&Gabbana Classic. Smells soooooo good, light refreshing scents and all three have a hint of citrus in it. Mens frgrance stay on longer and womens for some strange reason. Oh he also wears Axe sprays but they’re too strong for me but they smell good on him. ;]

For my husband, I like him in Polo. The original green bottle. That scent just knocks me of my feet and no other cologne he’s ever had or I’ve smelled has that effect on me. The man cologne that is awesome and should be marketed as unisex is Old Spice Wolfthorne! Hubby and I both love it and I can’t believe how great it smells on a man and a woman. It’s just the perfect scent mixture. We use the entire line (deoderant, cologne, body spray and body wash).

My husband has been wearing Jean Paul Gaultier’s Le Male cologne for years. I like it but wish he’d try to switch it up sometimes. I brought him several others as gifts, Bleu de Chanel and a few others but he doesn’t use them. Had a old boyfriend who wore Grey Flannel and it smelled good on him.

Men always smell so different, and some really need a cologne more than others, haha 🙂 Some guys have this magnetizing natural odor that’s some blend of their body wash and laundry detergent, and if that was bottled and sold, I’d buy it in scented candle form, lol! But as an additional scent, I looooove Acqua di Gio. I can’t get enough of it. The man I’m currently dating sometimes dons a spritz of this and I always find a way to cuddle up so I can sniff it, haha! I also love the Acqua di Gioia- I don’t have a proper bottle (I’m on perfume embargo until I make a bigger dent in my fragrance collection) but I do have a free sample vial from Sephora and it’s going fast, haha!

My husband has more colognes than I do perfume! 🙂 I don’t remember all the names, but there is one by John Varvatos that I like. Surprisingly, there is one from Abercrombie & Fitch that smells pretty good. I think it’s called Fierce.

Gaultier’s Le Male is always kind of a pleasant surprise to smell on a guy, but I think my #1 is leaning in and catching a whiff of Tom Ford’s Tobacco Vanille. Sooo nice. That’s one I’ve almost considered buying for myself.

I have a certain soft spot for Acqua Di Gio because it reminds me of my father, who I don’t get to see often! Every time I do see him though, he’s wearing this scent! I find it nice, clean, and manly smelling without being overpowering.

Tears in my eyes over that, Jennifer – my dad wore that, too, and I still have a bottle that I’ll splash a bit on myself just to remind me of him. My boyfriend has also been persuaded to wear a bit because of my positive reaction. Don’t care if it’s “old fashioned” – it’s a classic !
As for day-to-day me, I’m a HUGE fan of Jennifer Aniston, and I wear her fragrance every single day – subtle, not too flowery, and somehow makes me feel like I’m her friend or something for wearing her product. I’m weird, I know (!) but it’s a great scent – very warm, slightly spicy, not overwhelming. If she’s reading – hello, Jennifer Aniston !!!

Interesting because I bought D&G for men in a whim at an airport (because it was next to the women version that every girl in my family adooooores, from little ones to grannies) but the male version was a bit of .. MEH? No one thought much of it I am afraid. It wasn’t thrown away as I suggested ( as I got quite annoyed I must confessm, after all it is not cheap even with airport discount) as my mother hates that kind of vastage.. so maybe we will have to give it another go as soo many people seem to like it. For Men I adore most notes with Vetiver and Fig for summer and Oud for winter. Recently I sniffed the Byredo collection for Men and love them all. Did’t make a note of the names and another visit is due, this time with pen and paper.

I met my boyfriend in his phase of Ralph Lauren Polo Blue, so that is on my list. I recently bought him Polo Black, which he liked from a sample I received from Sephora.

I almost bought him Chanel Bleu, probably in a few months he will get it!

Right now almost every time I make a Sephora order, I add a sample of a men’s cologne. This way the BF can sample….from my carefully chosen list of samples (lol).
