Dior’s 5-Couleurs Eyeshadow Palette in Trafalgar: Your Seasonal Summer-to-Fall Chaperone

Oh, gawd! That red in the center of Dior’s new 5-Couleurs Eyeshadow Palette in Trafalgar ($60) is utterly terrifying…and yet so tantalizingly tempting at the same time.

I have to be careful… If I stare at it too long, I can’t look away. Kind of like watching The Hills (which I’ve been doing A LOT lately).

When I haven’t been pondering the sanctity of girl code and how it was broken in the infamous Brody/Lauren/Jen Bunney love triangle, I’ve been looking for makeup to take me from summer into fall.

Trafalgar has two gorgeous shades that’ll make the seasonal transition easier — a shimmery plummy bronze and a shimmery gold.

Dior's 5-Couleurs Eyeshadow Palette in Trafalgar

Bridging the gap from summer to fall

Both of them have warm, rich tones that look lovely on an end-of-summer tan. I’ve been wear them lately with purple and bronze liners on my lash and water lines, and pairing them with nude cheeks and lips to keep the overall look light and summery.

The plummy bronze and gold also happen to work well with richer cheek and lip colors, like berries, browns and plums, so when fall rolls around, all I’ll have to do is swap out the nude cheeks and lips for something like the dusty rose blush and berry lipstick I’m wearing in these pics…

You could also intensify the eyes even more by layering a deep plum or bronze cream shadow underneath as a base before applying Trafalgar on top. Add black liner on your lash and water lines, and you’ve got a classic fall makeup look.

What about the other shades?

The lighter shades in the palette — the glittery sheer pink and shimmery opalescent pinkish white — come in handy, too. Great for highlighting the inner corners.

They may not be as inspiring as the plummy bronze and gold, but still…

Now I just gotta work up the courage to wear that crazy-@ss shimmery red! 🙂

Thumbs up for…

As always with Dior, these shadows blend like a dream, and the shimmer’s on point. They’re shiny, but not hella frosty. When I have ’em on my lids, I feel like my eyes are glowing.

Where can you get it?

You can find Trafalgar now in Dior’s permanent collection at counters and online. It’s $60.

In LOVE with that plum shade! I just wish they would’ve ditched one of those highlight shades for a light taupey-brown color.

Very pretty look! The red is really bold but I like it a lot. I think you could easily pull it off. You’re so creative!

Absolutely stunning look on you, Karen! I’m not looking forward to fall since that means cold & snowy winter isn’t far behind, but that palette is lovely…except what to say about the red. It’s a beautiful shade of red. I wish it were a lip color instead of an eyeshadow that would be just taking up space if I bought that palette. I guess I’d try to use it as a blush but it’s too bright on me for that, too. Oh well. I guess I will have to pass. Curious to see if you create a look with it.

Hooo boy. That plum! That red! That bronze! These shades are gorgeous. (Though, I mean, it would be cool to see Dior tone it down a little on the frostiness. I have exactly one of their palettes, and I can barely make it outside of an hour without getting shimmer all over my cheeks.)

I LOVE that Dior put a proper red shadow in this palette. There are so few of those around in the mainstream brands, and I think it’s a colour that can be done really well, and needs more attention!

Love this look on you! Gorgeous glam!

I own Trafalgar and use that RED on the outer crease over a base of BB Bone cream eye shadow (for the whole lid area). But your suggestion of the plum and bronze cream shadow has me reaching for Velvet Plum and Beach Bronze along with a few others!

And I just ordered the NARS Audacious in Janet, so thank you for inspiration.

The look will be very different on a blue-eyed blonde but classic is classic is classic.

Now I just need fall to come along but here in northern California that’s all of 2 weeks!

    Karen,
I wore browns in the 60’s ! And Lux mascara too ! But no lipstick ! Not until I was at least 26 when I had my first drink : a gin & tonic ! I loved the Lime !
    I still wear browns !
They look luxurious ! I have green eyes ; my eyes look greener !
