Well, well, well…
I think I just found my new BFF off-duty/weekend face makeup product. MAC’s new Studio Sculpt Defining Powder ($32) has a finish like an ocelot…in that it’s elusive — the finish, I mean (cats on the brain). It has that elusive real skin-like finish that isn’t easy to find in a face powder. No matter how much I pack it on, it doesn’t look fake, caked-on or powdery.
With an ultra-fine, super sheer formula and a delicate sheen, I think it looks very natural on the skin.
Even when I threw caution to the wind and applied several layers of Medium Deep using a kabuki brush (in the interest of makeup science, of course), I still couldn’t see any tell-tale traces of powder. It was as if I wasn’t wearing anything on at all.
But yet my pores looked smaller, my skin tone looked nice and even, and I couldn’t see my freckles at all. It’s the old “no-makeup” makeup effect, and I love it.
Available in eight shades, the MAC Studio Sculpt Defining Powders are part of the new Studio Sculpt Collection, a 10-piece release heading permanently to all North American MAC locations and maccosmetics.com September 4 (through October 30). Wow! I feel like I’ve been taking pics all day long. I can’t believe the day is almost over.
How are you doing? I haven’t come up for air in a few hours. El Hub and I are thinking about going to a movie tonight… There’s really nothing out that we’re dying to see, but sometimes I really like going to the movies during the workweek because then it feels like more of a treat (this is what we’re thinking about seeing).
Anywho, that’s the way my brain works…

I’m not much of a sculpter, so I probably wouldn’t have much use for this powder… I don’t contour at all. Does that make me a bad beauty lover/beauty blogger?
It sounds like the perfect storm of powder. I so wanted to love Hourglass’ Ambient powders but I’m pretty sure they were the culprits in my breakouts. Maybe I’m just not a powder person – or it’s definitely possible that I’m doing it wrong!
PS I forgot to mention that the boys are starting the trumpet this year at school. We picked them up last week and they’ve been getting a lot of “practice” so we might have a couple of aspiring band geeks. 🙂
Hi Karen! I have a question, do you have oily skin? And if so did you find these powders to be particularly good at matifying (hope I spelled that right) while looking natural on the skin? I was going to repurchase a MSFN because I think they do a good job of looking natural while slightly matte. What do you think?
Ok I’m confused, I thought these were highlighters and contour powders. They kind of look like Mineralize Skinfinish Natural, how is the finish compared to the MSFN?

Gah!! I wish I could try these but the lightest shade still doesnt look light enough for me : ( So Sad. The only thing I can wear at mac is the select sheer powder because its the only powder offered in NC5 shade.
Im contemplating getting the matchmaster concealer stick. But this one looks mighty tempting too. HOWEVER….I have their MSF already …how does this compare Karen?
How well does this powder work with oily skin types?
I, too, find that the finish is beautiful. It’s by no means a matt powder and you won’t get that cakey look. It looks similar to the MSF but I for myself don’t find that the finish could be compared to the MSF. I find the MSF much more opaque and you get a little bit of color with the MSF. While with these I find that they are very sheer – I got a medium color and at first I thought I could only use it as a bronzer but when swatching it, it transfers very little product on the skin.
