Do the Chop! This Easy Trick Could Solve Your False Lash Woes

August 26th, 2014 by Karen 15 Comments

Ardell 120
Eureka! Having a revelation while wearing a pair of Ardell 120s…

Wow, babe. MIND BLOWN.

I don’t know why it took me so long to figure this out, but better late than never.

First, a little backstory. Last Saturday I was testing out a possible Emmys makeup look — yes, I’m kind of nerdy that way, but it never hurts to be prepared. I got it into my head that I wanted to wear a big, dramatic pair of false lashes to the show.

The thing is, some big lashes can be super uncomfortable off the shelf. I’ll usually trim them down to size, but even so — the big ones can still be uncomfortable.

I guess I have an oddly shaped lash line or something because the inner lash band always pokes me right in a sensitive spot, and it’s astronomically annoying.

So, I was thinking about this, trying to figure out what to do. What could I do, I wondered, to make a pair of dramatic false lashes more comfortable?

I know! — I’ll cut each one in half and apply the halves separately. 🙂

I grabbed a pair of haggard 120 Demis by Ardell (I’d already used them a few times before), and cut them in half right down the middle with a pair of scissors. Then I applied the outer half first and the inner half second.

Boom. This is when my mind was blown.

Ardell 120s cut in half
CHOP!

Chopped in half, they were a lot easier to position, and no more uncomfortable poking. They definitely felt more comfortable.

If false lashes are ever uncomfortable for you, or if they never seem to sit right, dude, chop ’em in half! 🙂

It’s a whole new false lash world…

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

P.S. OK, I ended up not even using this trick for the actual show last night because I ran out of time while getting ready (what else is new?), but I will! Someday soon I will.

P.P.S. Welcome to Novato! I’m home again and, unsurprisingly, very tired. I think I’ll sneak in a quick nap.

That’s the great tip! I’ve been trying to get with better with lashes (and wear them more “in real life”!). Will definitely try this!

One of my local friends here wears lashes every day. EVERY. DAY. And that’s what she does! She cuts them in half! I never think to do that.

I could never wear falsies everyday! She’s brave! I’d be worried my lashes would fall out!

I have small eyes, so I have always had to trim the falsies anyway. Sometimes I halve them too.
Glad you figured this out and can now look great while comfortable!

I recently was in a wedding and my lash kept poking me and threatening to lift in the inner corner – my dear friend who was getting married actually had hers lift (those ones i did NOT apply to her)and I had to reglue them. This trick would have solved our woes!!! Thank you Karen!!

I love this idea- I’ve heard of trimming the ends to size em up to your eyes, but never of actually chopping in half! This is great and I am going to to try it asap!

Great tip, I still have a pair or two unopened. I keep threatening to try them but never have time. I had individuals glued on for an event one time and it was a total nightmare. Kind of scared me to try it again.

phew, for a second i thought you were talking about chopping them lashes, based on the title.
i know this trick from makeup classes, where the instructor usually cuts the lashes to fit people’s eyes (or they were just stingy)…

I don’t like the look on me with a whole lash, so I have been doing this for a while. It just looks more natural.
