Supplements for hair and beauty

You know, I don’t think I have. Not strictly for my hair or skin, which is weird because I like my vitamins!

The closest I’ve come was probably a few years back with fish oil capsules. I still take them every once in a while, but not consistently. When I was taking them regularly, though — and I can’t remember why I was doing it now; I think I read an article in O Magazine or something that fish oil was supposed to be good for your memory (see how well it worked, LOL!) — my hair started growing like CRAZY.

It grew strong, thick and quickly, too, like a weed. Pretty soon I had Wonder Woman hair!

The only reason I stopped taking the capsules was because I ran out of them and never got around to getting a new bottle.

Lame, I know.

Actually…I just checked our stash of amino acids and health supplements (El Hub is kind of into all that), and wouldn’t you know it? — there’s a huge bottle of fish oil, which is good timing because I’ve been itching to grow my hair long again.

Big sigh… The grass/hair situation is always greener/better on the other side, isn’t it? 🙂

OK, buddy. Let’s talk shop. Do you now, or have you ever, taken any vitamins or supplements for skin, hair or makeup purposes?

    I don’t specifically take supplements for skin/hair/nails. BUT. And this is a huge one… I can always tell my nutrition has sucked based on the condition of my skin/hair/nails. Vitamin A for skin, B’s for hair and nails. More vegetables please 😀

    Yep, I take a ton of stuff. Not all for beauty purposes, but some of the supplements I take don’t just have health benefits but are also good for skin and hair. I take vitamin B, vitamin D, vitamin A, calcium, magnesium and zinc.

    I have taken just about every supplement specifically for Hair, Skin & Nails that is on the market. None of them worked for me as far as my hair, but did make my nails grow in strong (they used to be paper thin). Some of them made me very nauseous. I have brittle, dry and frizzy hair and always have my entire life. I have yet to find in my nearly 30 years of existence the right hair product that will tame my hair. I’m beginning to think I’ll never find the perfect product!

    Yep! Vit D calcium and vit B complex with Vit C I have had severe calcium deficiencies before so have to take all of these

    I cover my hair due to religious reasons and it’s looking a little damaged, to say the least. Until I started to cover my hair, I’d rarely had spilt ends but now,boy oh boy, splits are happening evvvverywhere. So I had to get some pills. Perfectil’s Original Triple Active has done wonders for my hair and nails. It’s perfect as it’s gluten and gelatin free. I’m also in search of a good root strengthing shampoo….suggestions??

    I swear by Viviscal for hair growth and health. My hair is genetically thin…quite so, and this does help keep what I have and some fullness has been recovered. Bonus- my nails are like iron!

    I did once a long time ago for a review for my blog, but it didn’t work out so well. I think it was a general “look better” kind of supplement.

    Now I totally want to try that fish oil, though. I could use some stronger, fuller hair!

    I’ve been taking biotin capsules intermittently for hair and nail growth! My hair already grows pretty quickly, but my nails are pathetic. However, I am terrible at remembering to take it unless I’m staring right at the bottle, and even then sometimes I don’t think to, haha!

    I tried Biotin capsules but I never noticed any difference. I do take Vitamin D as my levels are very low, as well as B vitamins. I have noticed the more strawberries I eat, the clearer my skin is!

    I used to take Biotin, but didn’t notice a huge difference in my hair, which was what I was taking it for, so I stopped.
    When I got pregnant a year ago, I started taking the recommended vitamins which contain biotin, fish oil and zinc and haven’t stopped since.
    I can’t tell whether they help my hair exactly, because with pp hairloss the whole situation doesn’t look to good at the moment, but I think, if I didn’t take them, things would be a lot worse.

    I sporadically take Biotin for my nails. If I use it too many days in a row my skin breaks out. Sigh. Peeling, weak nails or zitty skin are my choices. So I try to not take the Biotin more than every other day. I think I’m going to give fish oil a try and see if it helps my hair grow. The DH takes fish oil. He says it’s good for your heart.

    Yes i have! I have taken Burgerstein hair and nails (so very expensive!!)for several months during breast feeding. I was having a serious lack of vitamin condition and i was loosing my hair like crazy,I had plenty of bold spots, it was awful. The treatment helped improve my hair a bit, but not a lot, because I was down in red cells count, and there’s no vitamin that can help to that :-/ Luckily, around my son’s second birthday my hair was as healthy as it used to be 🙂

    I take liquid collagen, and it does seem to make my skin look better. However, I only take in periods when I’m on point with my diet in general, so I’m not sure how much can be attributed to the collagen vs just eating clean in general.

    I take hair/skin/nails by Nature’s bounty and it really helped my nails and my hair a little, I think it would take much longer to see results for my skin… My nails used to peel but now they grow so fast, with out peeling. I’ve been taking the supplement for about a month.

    I would but am too lazy to be committed! I tried taking fish oils and omegas but stopped after a couple of days. Thinking about taking prenatals or biotin to help with hair.. especially on the brows as they haven’t grown back since high school. But I wonder if it’s like how one can’t lose weight in one spot, one can’t grow hair in a specific area without affecting the rest.

    Not for cosmetic purposes only, no. I take some vitamins for general health, and I’m sure I get some cosmetic benefits for those.

    When I was in Europe I used to buy omega, one for hair skin and nails, vitamin E, . Here I just have beta carotene and vitamin C, I took the carotene cause it says it can help me cause my hair is falling allot, and mostly after washing it. Biotin didn’t help,
    I you have any suggestion that is payable let me know.

    I have taken and (still do though I forget for days sometimes!) a multi-vitamin, omega-3, biotin and calcium supplements. My nutritionist started me on these and when I did take them regularly, my body did show the benefits. Omega-3 and biotin are supposed to be good for the hair and skin!

    I take supplements for health purposes. Being a vegan, it is often a challenge to get all the nutrients the body needs from food alone–especially since I can’t tolerate soy. The only supplement I take for beauty purposes is Viviscal. It keeps both my nails and hair strong and long.

    I don’t take vitamins or supplements for anything. I did when I was pregnant, for the fellas’ sake, but everything I’ve used makes me a bit nauseous. And, I think I’m just a bit too lazy to do it, which is even more lame. I definitely don’t want my hair growing any faster. I already have to get my roots colored every 4 weeks! 🙂

    Btw, your hair is very nice when it’s long, but I really like it at this length, too. And I totally understand because I usually regret cutting mine short. I do it every few years (usually after I see someone with a great, shorter cut that will never look as good on me) and immediately wish I’d kept it longer.

    I take two GNC Hair, Skin, and Nails vitamins daily in addition to my GNC Vegetarian vitamin. I also stock piled Bobra vitamin skin water packets before they went out of business. Vitamins make a HUGE difference in my hair, nail, and skin clarity. I also eat a lot of super foods that help with hair, skin, and nails such as food that are high in Omega 3’s (flaxseeds, hemp hearts, chia seeds, etc.). Beauty is so much more than skincare products and makeup.

    I have used trichotin and dermagen for hair and skin, and I love them! The packaging is so luxurious, and it makes you want to take a supplement every morning. The results themselves speak volumes, love my thick hair and radiant skin!
