Things Never Go Well When I Start Doing My Makeup Before __________ Happens

October 24th, 2014 by Karen 16 Comments

Talk to me!
Talk to me!

Oh, where to start??

Things never go well when I start doing my makeup before coffee happens, because hello! — I’m officially not awake until about 10:30…regardless of when I physically get out of bed. 🙂

Seriously, though, clean brushes. That’s my real answer. I’m pretty good about washing my brushes now (almost always daily), but that’s only because I learned the hard way that dirty brushes equals muddy blending. I like to have clean brushes because blending for me is hard enough as it is, and I need all the help I can get.

Let’s see…what else?

Ah! Primer. When I don’t start with primer, it all goes to sh*t. Primer just seems to make everything that comes after it apply more smoothly and makes things easier to blend. It’s a step I never (almost never) skip.

Your turn, babe. How would you finish the following sentence: Things never go well when I start doing my makeup before __________ happens.

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

P.S. TGIF!

Hmm, yes, coffee would be an obvious choice! Other than that, I think when I am in a hurry, things don’t go too well.

Speaking of primers, what’s your current favorite? (doing research for the wedding still :))

Happy Friday, it’s gotta be a good day- work will be over in 20 mins, the sun is shining, hubby is coming home tonight!

      Hi Agata!

Primer for eyes or for the skin? I’ve got a few — let me know which one you’re looking for. 🙂

Yay, and TGIF! What will you be doing after work?

For the skin. I have a few primers but I almost out of every one of them. Preferably something pore blurring and mattifying maybe?

I am going for a walk in a moment to get some candy, lol. PMS approaching and I am craving chocolate! Lol After that I think I am going to practice some purple makeup looks for the said wedding.

I’ve been using a combo of MAC Prep + Prime Natural Radiance and Smashbox Pore Minimizing Photo Finish Foundation Primer and liking it a lot. I do Prep + Prime all over the face, then Smashbox on my cheeks, nose and around my mouth. After that, a layer of Laura Mercier Flawless Fluide. I really like how it this combo photographs and looks in real life, and it does a great job of minimizing pores and matting down the skin. If you need extra oil control you can always do a loose powder on top, but I usually skip that step. Let me know if you need any additional recs!

Enjoy your walk! And if you get a Snickers take a bite for me. Mmm, caramel!

Thanks for the recs! I wish primers weren’t so expensive! I could probably get a sample of the Smashbox at Sephora but I don’t think Mac makes samples, right?I wish I lived around the block to sneak in and borrow your makeup 🙂

Agata, MAC will make you a sample. Ask nicely 🙂

Lotion Happens OMG I have super dry skin and I am acne prone so with out a proper moisturizer I am a dry flaking crusty mess by 8 lol (I wake up for work at five) so Moisturizer is one of those steps I can not skip.

Hmmmm……I would have to say before Tulip the cat bumps my arm or climbs on me while I’m doing my makeup. Another would be when I get mascara everywhere….

Sadly, my makeup routine is so short and boring that the results are always the same. So, instead of filling in the blank, I’m going to gush about your Halloween graphic. I’m a sucker for black cats and pumpkins. 🙂

And if I forgot to already say this: Happy Friday!!

Eye cream! My lids get super dry and flaky. I need hella moisture. Also, clean brushes. Nothing irritates me more than trying to buff in foundation with a dirty brush!

Happy Friday!!!!!!!!!!!! I love your pumpkin and the black cat 🙂

Things never go well if I do my make up before I’m fully awake, being rushed or if there is an appt I don’t really want to go to so I put off applying my make up until the last minute 🙁 Also, if I forget to splash cold water on my face to minimize the pores a bit after my shower they look huge!!!!!! Actually, they look like craters on the moon…LOL

I really need to consider using a face primer. I always use a primer for my eye..other wise I look like a raccoon because of my year round allergies. But, I’ve never used an face primer and as I age my pores have gotten larger. Of course, the easy way to fix that would be to go and have a few sessions with the woman who did some microdermabrasion for me several years ago when I wanted to get rid of quite a few scars from having had shingles on the right side of my face and neck. It worked on the scars, gave me a healthy glow and minimized the pores. Oh, she didn’t just do the right side of my face she did my entire face, neck and decolletage. I don’t think the decolletage was necessary but, that’s the way she did it and it didn’t cost any more than what I really wanted done..my face and neck. But, it’s so darn expensive I think a a good face primer would be a better idea.

Sometimes I forget to moisturize. I almost always get a million phone calls whenever I’m getting ready for anything! Pisses me off and get unset foundation all over mah phone! Luckily I have enough boob to go hands free on speaker phone 🙂

Oh yeah, I definitely need my primers as well! No primer equals a not-so-flawless make-up application.

Things never go well when I start doing my makeup before caffeine/moisturizer happens! Without those two, my makeup is just a hot mess lol!

Things never go well when I start doing my makeup before warmth happens. I am someone who is pretty much always cold, and it takes me about a year to get out of bed in the morning- especially in the fall and winter, when my room is ice cold and sometimes I forget to turn my space heater on the night before. Not only am I half asleep in front of the mirror, but my fingers are so stiff from cold, I can barely hold my makeup brushes steady! A fluffy warm robe usually does the trick to get the blood flowing to my extremities again!

Nothing ever goes well for me if I do not have my coffee (I also have to be sipping it during the makeup application).
I have really dry skin so if I do not use my cover FX primer its a dry splotchy mess.
