The Two New Limited Edition Le Metier de Beaute Obsidian Odyssey Kaleidoscope Palettes Deliver Fun, Form and Function at an Extravagant Price

Layers. They’re not just for onions, cakes and Godfather movies anymore. (No kidding! It took me years to figure out what was really going on with the Tattaglias and Barzinis.)

Layers are also for makeup — which are sometimes on your face, and sometimes in the construction of your palettes, like what Le Metier de Beaute does with their signature stacked Kaleidoscope pans.

So fun! I love how they float in and out of their compacts like silent kitty cat paws/covert makeup ninjas…

The brand’s two latest layered limited edition Kaleidoscope holiday palettes are a trip. For warm, smoldering gold, copper, pink and/or blue eyes and shiny pink and red lips, there’s the Obsidian Odyssey Lip and Cheek Kaleidoscope Palette ($125) and Obsidian Odyssey Eye Shadow Kaleidoscope Palette ($95).

Sadly for credit cards, these palettes are budget-unfriendly, but that’s Le Metier for ya. Wallets and purses may spontaneously combust and burn with the bright blue intensity of a bunsen burner when they see the prices.

But they still might be worth it. The $95 Obsidian Odyssey Eye Shadow kit’s shimmery, flawlessly pigmented rose, copper and bronze shadows let me win every time, meaning that they don’t fight me when I want to soften a line or buff them.

The Obsidian Odyssey Eye Shadow Kaleidoscope also includes a matte blackish blue and a medium-toned shimmery blue powder eyeliner, both of which seemed out of place to me at first, but after getting to know them better, now I can see how they complement the warmer tones in the palette…like smooth harmonies in a baby-making slow jam.
MAKEUP AND BEAUTY BLOG RATING: B+ (an A- if not for the price)

As for the second Kaleidoscope here, the Lip and Cheek Palette? I love the design again, but eh — I’m not terribly moved.

This one’s $125, and for that it seems overpriced. The glosses are super sheer and don’t last very long on my lips (less than an hour), while the blushes, despite appearing gloriously natural, look more or less the same on my NC42 cheeks.

I really wanted to love the Obsidian Odyssey Lip and Cheek Kaleidoscope, even though I do dig its variety of pinks…but I can’t help but hunger for more oomph.

If your interests are piqued, both Le Metier de Beaute Obsidian Odyssey Kaleidoscopes Palettes are available now for a limited time online and at Neiman Marcus.

Farewell, Stars Hollow…

Gonna miss ya...I finally finished watching ALL SEVEN SEASONS of the Gilmore Girls this week.

That’s 153 hour-long episodes! (It only took a three lifetimes.)

Needless to say, El Hub breathed a heavy sigh of relief after the season finale.

Poor guy… Seriously, though, if you can, marry a man who will patiently sit through marathoning the Gilmore Girls with you over the course of two months. It’s like a litmus test. If you two can make it through that, you should be able to make it through just about anything, LOL!

Now, off to Luke’s to grab one last cup of coffee with Lorelei and Rory… 🙂

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

That navy eyeshadow in the Obsidian palette is gorgeous. All the eyeshadows are pretty but I’d never spend that much money on a makeup palette.

It’s a liner! You can probably use it an an eyeshadow though.

Ohh, I missed that somehow. I have been loving shades like this recently. ArtDeco has just released a new collection called “Glam, Moon, Stars” and there is this gorgeous navy shade that they used in promo pictures. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PhpbIGRZOnk

Since Art Deco is hard to get here, I hinted it to my mom…She thinks I don’t need any more eyeshadows but I hope she bought it for me and will send it for Christmas.

The eyeshadow swatches look beautiful and I really like the packaging too. The prices are out of control though lol

while the eye-shadows are nice the lip and cheek colours are pretty underwhelming and for what price?!

Le Metier just can’t do MAC with those pinks for cheeks & lips.

I own 1 LMdeB eye shadow in a bronze shade. While it is smooth as silk it also gives me fallout.

The copper and blue combo is one I never would have thought of — but, yeah, blue sky, copper earth – harmonies, yes. I will have to give the composition a try — with layers from other brands! Really, the prices of these kaleidoscopes are too high.

I once had a girlfriend named Tattaglia. There’s a great Columbo made-for-tv-movie (what else were they made for?) with the killer named Max Barsini, the painter — Murder, A Self-Portrait. Very good.

I am sure that El Hub enjoyed your enjoyment of GG. Not everyone has that much persistence!

Oof. The eye palette is more stunning than I can handle. I watched the entire Gilmore Girls series exactly five years ago. Mr. M had moved across the state quickly for a great job opportunity and I had two weeks alone with our (then) 5-month-old. The Girls kept me company while packing the house! Anything on the docket for your next binge-watching series?

Even though you warned about the price, I was still stunned! I think the lip/cheek palettes are really pretty, esp the first one, but the eye palettes make me nervous. Can you imagine dropping one and having all the layers break and blend into one, big mess? Of course, I guess the same could be said of any palette. This just seems more hazardous to me because of the stacking. 🙂

I love that kind of packaging, as it is incredibly travel-friendly, but I think I´ll pass at this price.

Gilmore Girls… I never watched it, but I´ll add it to my list.
I binge-watched Gossip Girl five years ago, when I was going through hard times, and it really helped a lot. At the moment, I am watching Pretty Little Liars on my own (but I am still one season behind, so no spoilers please) and Breaking Bad with Mr. Loca, who would never ever watch GG with me.

Ummm, Karen, you have a typo in this post. You listed one palette for $95 and another for $125. Or, maybe Tabs is playing with your editing. Let us know when you’ve fixed this grave error 🙂

I have always wanted to try Le Metier de Beaute, but the price has kept me from fulfilling that desire! I love the gold, copper and pink shadows the best. Too bad the lip/cheek duos were a little wan. For the price, they should be perfect

What a coincidence! My husband and I are currently watching Gilmore Girls! I’ve watched it years ago and loved it; he’s never seen it before, but he’s enjoying it :).

Oh, man! I’m watching (re-watching) Gilmore Girls right now, too — I think I only have five or so episodes left. It makes me so sad that it’s going to end AGAIN for me, as if it wasn’t heartbreaking enough the first time!

      Hey Rae,

I always find that when I watch things the second time around that I notice stuff I didn’t see the first time. Have you seen anything that you didn’t catch when you first saw the show?

YES absolutely! Especially within each of the relationships — I think I missed a lot of the subtext the first time around (I was pretty young when season one aired), and it’s really interesting to see all of it this time around!

I once splurged on a limited edition kaleidoscope. The minute I opened it, all the pans fell out. I also feel like the kaleidoscopes are too bulky, yet too flimsy to take along when I travel. Le Metier de Beaute colors are beautiful, but for $95 I want beautiful, buttery shadows, elegant and sleek, well made packaging and maybe a mirror. Kinda like a Tom Ford quad for $79.

I just started re-watching GGs with my daughter over Thanksgiving. I need to catch up on the episodes she watched this week, so I’m up to speed when she gets home for the semester break. I remember visiting Warner Bros. Studios when she was younger and having our photo taken in front of Luke’s diner. I wonder what’s in that film set now.

Love the light and dark blue colours, but would not use the rest. It is very expensive so I would pass on this.

The packaging is cute as hell. But way too spendy for what you get.
