Matte Madness: MAC Matte Lipstick in Fashion Revival

December 2nd, 2014 by Karen 30 Comments

MAC Fashion Revival Matte Lipstick (1)

MAC Fashion Revival Matte Lipstick (2)

Items on my Recently Revived Pieces of ’90s Fashion list that make me kind of cranky…

  • Clunky Timberland boots (to their credit, I remember them being quite warm and good at keeping my feet dry on rainy days)
  • Plastic choker necklaces (no explanation needed)
  • Floral slip dresses (when worn with white baby tees)
  • Overalls (when worn with one strap up and one strap down)

As you’ll notice, matte lips are not on the list. 🙂

That’s because I’m so feelin’ ’em, dawg!

But the flakes on my lips aren’t…which is why I’ve been rolling with Hourglass No. 28 Lip Treatment Oil lately (note to self: this hella hydrating lip balm totally deserves to be an unsung hero).

So, MAC Fashion Revival Lipstick — is there anything it doesn’t go with? I honestly don’t know.

I love pairing this deep, rich matte raspberry (it’s $16) with warm golds and coppers on my eyes, but it really seems to work with just about everything.

It’s only available for a couple more days until December 4 here in North America, so if you’re interested, better jump!

Available through December 4 at MAC counters, stores and also online.

On a wholly unrelated topic…

Monogrammed Christmas Stockings from Target, $13 each
These monogrammed Christmas stockings from Target ($13 each)

Tabs insisted on helping with the Christmas decorating this year, but in exchange for his listless, halfhearted help, he demanded that I get him a monogrammed stocking.

It’s Pottery Barn’s fault… He paws through their catalogue at night and dog-ears the pages with holiday looks and room arrangements he wants to recreate in “his” living space (also known as the house).

Anywho, I’ve been looking for ways to get similar holiday looks for less and found these cute monogrammed stockings at Target. They’re $13 each, and I think they’re available in every letter of the alphabet, including “T” for Tabs.

Conveniently, the green for “T” also matches his eyes. 🙂

Um…yeah, that was a very crazy cat lady thing to say, but since I went there already, does your pet have a stocking? Inquiring minds want to know.

    Hi Karen,

I love the matte finish on MAC Fashion Revival — it has just the right richness for the season 🙂

What blush are you wearing? I always have trouble pairing blush shades with red lips.

I don’t know what blush the vivacious Karen is wearing but I usually use a bronzer & MAC Melba or a nice wash of MAC Mineralize Blush in Gleeful for a berry red like this one.

I was looking at the mac lipsticks trying to figure out which one to get because I like pander me and fashion revival. Fashion revival is out of stock online at Mac but they still have it online at Nordstrom. Decisions..decisions… I’ve been looking for a 90’s kinda lipstick color

It’s crazy me that things from the 90s are coming back in style. Actually, I think it makes me feel cranky because I’m getting old. 🙂 However, I’m on board with matte lips too! I’m so used to wearing gloss, a matte lip is a nice change.

I love those stockings! I’ve actually been looking for some cute Christmas stockings for the family, but I haven’t been able to find ones that are just right. I hope you don’t mind if I steal your idea, but might have to get these! 🙂

This is my first Christmas with my pup and the first thing I did when everything came out at Target was get us matching stockings for our fireplace. No regrets.

Hey Karen, Fashion Revival looks so pretty on you and defenitely a winter shade. But, sadly matte lipsticks are very unforgiving to my lips during winters!

I just bought Fashion Revival and love it! Wore it with Dior Trafalgar today. I’ve read that it is a dupe for Vera. It’s luscious and better than anything I recall from the ’90s but my memory grows dim. . .

    Wouldn’t Tabs cat-ear the pages?

My 2 cats and The Beagle do not have their own stockings but each gives me a Christmas present. It’s all in the training!

These “matte” lipsticks from MAC are not really all that matte. They have a nice satin sheen/feel. I bought “Living Legend” for Dear Daughter and it is a pretty close but cheaper dupe for NARS Audacious Liv.

And yes, my dog has his own stocking which he gets to “open” on Christmas morning. It’s a lot of fun, and he gets so overstimulated by all of the new toys and treats!

Oh yes, our cats have their own stockings. Monogrammed, just like Tabs. Inevitably when I get up in the morning, at least one will have been dragged across the living room. They have fun with them and I get crazy cat lady street cred, so win/win really.

Have this and love it! It looks GREAT on you! I don’t find MAC mattes drying, but I gathered I’m pretty lucky in that regard!

Now that is a shade that is right up my street!

Sadly, I don’t have a pet (making me a wanna-be blogger, I´m afraid), so no monogrammed stockings in my house.

I think this is one of Mac’s best lipsticks!! If anyone has a problem with the mattes being to drying, use Mac’s prep & prime lip! It’s awesome, your mattes will glide right on 🙂 cute stockings!!

You look so glamorous! Love love love a dark lip on you! It’s kind of funny that the one thing that I don’t like on me always seems to look totally fab on others 🙂

You know I’m totally stuck in the 90s with my lip color preferences and this one looks amazing on you! I also had to grin about the one strap up and one down on the overalls. Can you imagine both up? Who would have done that? The horror! We actually left one completely unbuttoned and hanging down, which was super convenient (for banging into things and getting caught in doors). HAHA!

Super cute stockings, btw. We don’t have them for our cats – just the kids. And on a sadder note, our 2nd kitty is going to need thyroid surgery. It’s a thing. Who knew? 🙁

We just found out last night. She has been getting thinner over the last year but we thought it was because she was getting older (and harassed constantly by the kitten). Turns out it was her thyroid. In the last few days she had had “spells” where she would get very agitated (tail would puff) and she would spin around in circles and then vomit some clear foam. Maybe once per day. So, we called the vet on Monday and got her in yesterday. I think she’s going to be OK. She’s just on meds right now while they review the tests but they are confident the surgery will work. Fingers crossed!

Happy Wednesday! Between these, the Nasty Gal lipsticks, and some Trend Forecast stuff I’ve been eyeing, my shopping list is getting pretty long!
I think we’re starting to get some of that weather. It was ominously cloudy in my corner of Texas this morning. What’s funny is our older dog, Nicky, used to hate the rain. Lately, though, he’s been loving playing in puddles! So weird…

First, you are gorgeous! Your makeup is always on point! Second, just had a question about Fashion Revival vs. Heaux. I missed out on Heaux. None of the “dupes” I’ve seen really get it right. How do you feel FR compares? I LOVE it, and for me it beats Rebel hands down. I’m loving the more creamy matte formulas MAC has been using. And, while I love Ruby Woo, I’m loving Kinky more. And since you said today is the last day (it’s sold out at MAC online), I will buy another on Nordstrom’s site!

Oh my, are you for real?! You look STUNNING with this lip color, I just can’t. That is sooo crazy, I find that this color looks a bit different on me but I love it soooooo much, I’m soo happy I found this one because in Vienna it’s sold out everywhere so yay, that was SUCH a good choice! <3 I give you a virtual high five for getting our hands on this lipstick, it is such a gorgeous color 😉

This is how it looks on me:
