A Classic Neutral Makeup Tutorial With Cool-Toned Eyes and Nude Lips

January 28th, 2015 by Karen 44 Comments

I’ve been wanting to do a tutorial for this look forever! It’s one of my fallbacks when I don’t want to think too hard…which is, like, all the time. Often. 🙂 It’s a timeless classic eye with some cool-toned eyeshadows, and some neutral eyeshadows, and I usually pair it with peachy pink cheeks and nude lips (and sometimes false lashes).

How to do a classic neutral cool-toned eye

There’s a bit to it, so it’s not a 5-minute look by any means, but it’s not too far out there either. It’ll get easier the more you do it.

Hope you enjoy it. Give it a try sometime, and let me know how it turns out. You. Can. Do. It!

This is a really flattering look on you! I don’t do nude lips often because I feel more comfortable with a little more color on my face. I’ll try this out with a peachy brown lip!

      Hi Ankita,

This look would totally work with a peachy brown lip. Maybe with a matte finish?

I’m thinking MAC Spice Lip Liner, its such a great neutral for medium/dark complexions!

You make the cutest faces 🙂 I loved watching the video and I am going to try this look for sure.

Speaking of false lashes, what would you recommend for something natural looking but a little bit more fancy than Ardell 110s?

      Hi Agata,

Can’t wait to see your look. 🙂

OK, so… I can recommend some lashes! What are you looking for? Would you like some lift on the ends? Or would you like the lashes to have length in the center?

Hope you’re having a nice week so far!

I’m looking for some lift on the ends I guess.

My week has been fine. I had a good day off today shopping and going to lunch my friend. How’s yours?

If you want lift at the ends then I highly recommend the ones from the video, the Eylure No. 117s. They’re currently on sale now at Ulta!

My week has been OK. 🙂 It’s chugging along nicely! Where did you go shopping? Did you end up grabbing anything?

Thank you, I will try these! I was actually at Ulta yesterday looking at lashes but I couldn’t decide. I didn’t get any makeup yesterday, but I helped my friend pick a lipstick. She never wears lipsticks so it’s kind of exciting. I got some VS lingerie though and I also got a sample of the new Nare Minerals Gel foundation. Have you tried it yet?

    Bellissima! Bravo!

So interesting to see the order in which you apply makeup. I do my eyebrows last! Which is sometimes bad because I forget but I think it’s cause I spent so many years just not doing the brows at all!!

Plus, I like to use the foundation & powder to plump up the hairs a bit first. My own oddity.

But the eye application is so pro-exquisite! And what would a gal do without Q-tips! You know they can be used for the ears too!

I’m gonna watch a 2nd time and take notes on the lips! Cupid’s bow can always use a little more love.

Well, now that I think of it, I can totally put off going home for a few more weeks, as NZ is great, but when I have to return in March, your videos will was the pain.

Karen, you look BOMB. Seriously. You’re making me consider buying two bottles of the LM Flawless Fluide (they don’t have a match for my skin; I’d have to mix every day)! Your skin looks AMAZING.

I think what I love most about your makeup looks/tutorials is that you keep the looks simple and attainable for the every day woman. There are so many youtube beauty gurus out there that create these insanely (beautiful) difficult looks that just aren’t ideal for most women. Thank you for keeping it REAL! Also- your hair is everything.

Amazing! I really thought you were wearing eyelid tape. I love how you made your lids bigger. As a Filipino with small lids it’s hard to perfect and blend eyeshadows. PS. I’m a longtime lurker on your blog.

I like it for pre-makeup prep. I do end up using a different moisturizer at night though for real deal heavy duty hydration.

      Hi Gloria,

You can totally modify it and streamline the look to make it simpler. Like, when I do this for a more everyday look, I leave out the false lashes, and use one (not two) crease colors. You could also skip the brown bottom liner. Or for the liner on the top lash line, leave out the black eyeshadow and just smudge with your angled brush. There’s a lot of ways to tweak it!

It sure looks pretty. I do a natural look most mornings, but my list only has about 5 products. I’m sure I’d look much better if I used a few more, but you know, time and energy . . . for just going in to work. Oh well. I love your lipstick color(s) for this look, too!

This was the best tutorial I have ever watched! I loved that it wasn’t overpolished and overproduced to ‘perfection’ – so many YouTubers do that and they come off as flat and personality-less. It was so fun to watch, and I HAD to go back and watch the bit about pizza sauce removal again – LOL! You are pure awesome. <3
